모든 것을 긍정적으로 바라보며, 정직과 성실만으로 세상살이를 하는 일. 아름다운 이야기지만 그렇게 사는 일이 말처럼 쉬운 것은 아니다. 그런데, 그 정직과 성실만이 세상을 밝히는 최고의 진리라는 확신으로 살아온 사람이 있다. 심완구 울산광역시장. 그가 울산의 광역시 승격을 주도할 수 있었던 것도, ‘21세기 산업수도 울산 건설’을 위한 장기적이고 야무진 계획을 수립하고 추진할 수 있는 것도, 다방면으로 많이 알아야 국민을 위한 제도로 된 정책을 낼 수 있다는 생각에서 바쁜 중에도 학업을 계속했던 것도 바로 그 확신에 바탕을 두고 있다. 항상 시민의 목소리를 향해 귀를 열어두고, 울산광역시민과 함께 2천 년대 제2의 산업 수도 건설을 위해 오늘도 바쁜 하루를 보내고 있는 작은 거인 심완구 시장의, 미래도시 울산 건설의 청사진을 소개한다.

In 2010 there are 759 public libraries in Korea, and they have been increased constantly for the recent four to five years. In order to make them as cultural spaces in local communities, Korean government is now planning to increase the number of public libraries up to 900 and to build small to medium-sized multiple purpose libraries rather than large and single purpose ones. Especially in the case of public libraries in metropolitan cities, which are main libraries in those areas, they should be designed to play major functions of cultural experience, exhibition, and life-long education as well as to meet the basic needs of providing books for public reading and of building and developing branch libraries based on local characteristics. Above all, in order to make a public library as a center of local culture, a space planning focused on increasing utilization and satisfaction of the residents is required. It is essential to conduct a survey to understand the needs of the residential users and reflect their opinions. In this regard, our research process was constructed as follows. First, precedent studies on a certain densely populated area were reviewed. Second, a survey was conducted in Ulsan city to figure out the needs and the satisfaction level of the actual users. The purpose of this study is to propose a better space planning approach for public libraries in metropolitan cities based on the analysis.

울산은 수많은 대기업과 중소기업이 소재하고 있는 반면 전문적인 연구기관은 없는 실정이다. 또한 대학은 현대가 재단인 울산대학교가 유일하게 있어서 백만이라는 인구를 감안할 때 부족하다는 여론이다. 울산대학교 공과대학은 공업도시에 위치하고 있으므로 많은 교수들이 순수학문 분야보다 주로 산학협력 과제에 관련되어 있다. 전국적으로 볼 때 산합협동이 활발한 대학 중의 하나이며 지역사회에 봉사하는 바도 대단히 크다. 울산은 또한 지난 7월 광역시로 승격하여 더욱 발전할 것으로 기대에 부풀어 있다.

Two newly naturalized species were recorded from Incheon (Youngjong-do) and Ulsan. Among them, Bidens polylepis S.F. Blake (Asteraceae) was widespread and was found in the following locations: Unbuk bridge, Unbuk-dong, Jung-gu in Incheon, and Chuiseosan, Banggi-ri, Samnam-myeon as well as a Saemmul mountain cabin on Jaeaksan, Sangbuk-myeon in Ulju-gun, Ulsan. Bidens polylepis can be distinguished from congeneric species by its larger ray-flowers. The Korean name of Bidens polylepis was newly formulated based on the characteristic of its yellow ray-flowers and on the Korean name of the genus Bidens (Asteraceae). The other species, numerous populations of Saponaria officinalis L. (Caryophyllaceae) were found in two areas in Jeotgae village, Unseo-dong, Jung-gu, Incheon. Saponaria officinalis can be distinguished from congeneric species in the family by two features, shallow calyx teeth and a petal with appendages at the base of the blade.
