Mechanical Performance Evaluation of a Top End Piece for Dual Cooled Fuels (이중냉각 핵연료 상단고정체의 기계적 성능평가)

  • A fuel assembly consists of five major components, i.e., a top end piece (TEP), a bottom end piece (BEP), spacer grids (SGs), guide tubes (GTs) and an instrumentation tube (IT); in addition, it also includes fuel rods (FRs). The TEP/BEP should satisfy stress intensity limits according to the conditions A and B of ASME, Section III, Division 1-Subsection NB. In a dual-cooled fuel assembly, the array and position of fuel rods are different from those in a conventional PWR fuel assembly; these changes are necessary for achieving power uprating. The flow plates of the TEP and BEP have to be modified accordingly. The pattern and shape of the flow holes were newly designed. To verify the strength compatibility, the Tresca stress limit according to the ASME code was investigated in the case of an axial load of 22.241 kN. In this paper, the stress linearization procedure for strength evaluation of a newly designed TEP is presented.

  • 복합분자펌프는 기존의 터보분자펌프 turbine blade에 spiral grooved를 추가하여 초고진공(10-8 Pa)에서 저진공(330Pa)까지 넓은 압력범위에서 사용할 수 있고 이 펌프를 사용함으로서 완전 oil free한 진공시스템을 만들 수 있는 특징을 가지고 있다. 특히, 회전체를 비접촉으로 지지하는 자기베어링 방식을 적용함으로써, 진동은 극히 작고 베어링수명은 길면서 중저진공에 대한 배기속도가 크고 임의의 방향으로 접속이 가능하여 반도체 및 디스플레이 제조 공정과 같은 첨단산업의 다양한 분야에 쉽게 적용되고 있으며, 그 적용 분야와 시장은 계속 성장하고 있다. 고 진공과 배기 속도의 달성을 위해서, 고속으로 이동하는 격면과 기체분자를 충돌시켜, 기체 분자를 원하는 방향으로 유도하는 작동원리를 가지고 있다. 특히 공기분자의 밀도가 매우 낮은 희박가스 상태에서 고속 회전하는 blade로 공기분자를 쳐 내면서 작동됨으로써 날개의 상하 압력차에 의한 공기력보다도 날개의 고속회전이 매우 중요시 되고 압력으로는 10-1 Pa 이하의 분자영역에서 그 성능을 최고로 발휘 할 수 있다. 이러한 복합 펌프의 주요 장점은 다음과 같다. 1. 10-8 Pa (10-10torr)~10 Pa (1 torr) 까지 넓은 영역에서 배기가 가능하다. 2. 탄화수계의 대하여 높은 압축특성을 가지고 있고, 윤활유를 사용하지 않으므로 얻을 수 있는 진공상태가 고청정하다(oil free). 3. 정밀 5축제어 자기베어링으로 완전히 부상하여 회전함으로서 마모가 없고 진동이 최소화하였을 뿐만 아니라, 또한 운전음도 거의 없다. 4. 설치조건에 제한이 없고 고장이 거의 없다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 복합분자펌프의 개발을 위하여, 상기 연구기관에서 수행된 내용을 소개하고 있으며, 펌프 시스템의 기본 설계 및 자기베어링 시스템의 설계 결과 및 수치해석 결과를 나타내었다.

Study on the Design of a Rotary-type LSM and Test Equipment for Design Verification of LSM for Ultra-high-speed Train (초고속열차용 LSM 설계 검증을 위한 회전형 구조의 LSM 및 시험기 설계 연구)

  • A very long test track is required for high-speed operation test of the real-scale Linear Synchronous Motor (LSM) for ultra-high-speed trains. The required length results in huge construction cost and economic loss if any error occurs during development. Therefore, validation study of the LSM design technology using a low-cost small-scale model must be carried out in the early research stages. It is possible to deduce an optimal winding method for the armature and determine the mechanical properties of the LSM through a performance tester that applies a rotary-type small-scale LSM model. In addition, it is possible to utilize previous research on LSM control systems. Therefore, a basic design model, comprising a rotary-type LSM tester that meets the requirements for the propulsion of 600km/h-class ultra-high-speed trains, is derived in this study. Finally, an optimal model, which has a stable structure under the condition of 1500rpm or more high-speed rotation, is derived by electromagnetic and mechanical stiffness analysis.

Video Based Tail-Lights Status Recognition Algorithm (영상기반 차량 후미등 상태 인식 알고리즘)

  • Automatic detection of vehicles in front is an integral component of many advanced driver-assistance system, such as collision mitigation, automatic cruise control, and automatic head-lamp dimming. Regardless day and night, tail-lights play an important role in vehicle detecting and status recognizing of driving in front. However, some drivers do not know the status of the tail-lights of vehicles. Thus, it is required for drivers to inform status of tail-lights automatically. In this paper, a recognition method of status of tail-lights based on video processing and recognition technology is proposed. Background estimation, optical flow and Euclidean distance is used to detect vehicles entering tollgate. Then saliency map is used to detect tail-lights and recognize their status in the Lab color coordinates. As results of experiments of using tollgate videos, it is shown that the proposed method can be used to inform status of tail-lights.

  • Flue gas desulfurization(FGD) is an effective technique to remove $SO_2$ gases of coal-fired plants. Limestone is usually used as desulfurizing agent. In this study, we use the limestone sludge which is a by-product of steel industry in order to replace desulfurizing agent of FGD process. Physical and chemical characteristics analysis of desulfurizing agent was conducted. Desulfurizing agent using limestone sludge was fabricated by pre-treatment process and, then the agent was used on FGD process. Consequently, the tendency on the $SO_2$ concentration did not appear. And limestone sludge was considered as possible alternative agent for flue gas desulfurization process through absorber control system.

Evaluation of Thermal Catalytic Decomposition of Chlorinated Hydrocarbons and Catalyst-Poison Effect by Sulfur Compound (염소계 탄화수소의 열촉매 분해와 황화합물에 의한 촉매독 영향 평가)

  • To overcome certain disadvantages of past typical control techniques for toxic contaminants emitted from various industrial processes, the current study was conducted to establish a thermal catalytic system using mesh-type transition-metal platinum(Pt)/stainless steel(SS) catalyst and to evaluate catalytic thermal destruction of five chlorinated hydrocarbons[chlorobenzene(CHB), chloroform(CHF), perchloroethylene (PCE), 1,1,1-trichloroethane(TCEthane), trichloroethylene(TCE)]. In addition, this study evaluated the catalyst poison effect on the catalytic thermal destruction. Three operating parameters tested for the thermal catalyst system included the inlet concentrations, the incineration temperature, and the residence time in the catalyst system. The thermal decomposition efficiency decreased from the highest value of 100% to the lowest value of almost 0%(CHB) as the input concentration increased, depending upon the type of chlorinated compounds. The destruction efficiencies of the four target compounds, except for TCEthane, increased upto almost 100% as the reaction temperature increased, whereas the destruction efficiency for TCEthane did not significantly vary. For the target compounds except for TCEthane, the catalytic destruction efficiencies increased up to 30% to 97% as the residence time increased from 10 sec to 60 sec, but the increase of destruction efficiency for TCEthane stopped at the residence time of 30 sec, suggesting that long residence times are not always proper for thermal destruction of VOCs, when considering the destruction efficiency and operation costs of thermal catalytic system together. Conclusively, the current findings suggest that when applying the transition-metal catalyst for the better destruction of chlorinated hydrocarbons, VOC type should be considered, along with their inlet concentrations, and reaction temperature and residence time in catalytic system. Meanwhile, the addition of high methyl sulfide(1.8 ppm) caused a drop of 0 to 50% in the removal efficiencies of the target compounds, whereas the addition of low methyl sulfide (0.1 ppm), which is lower than the concentrations of sulfur compounds measured in typical industrial emissions, did not cause.

  • Hybrid power storage system with emergency power function for demand management and power outage minimizes the investment cost in the building of buildings and factories requiring emergency power generation facilities, We propose a new business model by developing technology that can secure economical efficiency by reducing power cost at all times. Normally, system power is supplied to load through STS (Static Transfer Switch), and PCS is connected to system in parallel to perform demand management. In order to efficiently operate the electric power through demand forecasting, the EMS issues a charge / discharge command to the ESS as a PMS (Power Management System), and the PMS transmits the command to the PCS controller to operate the system. During the power outage, the STS is rapidly disengaged from the system, and the PCS becomes an independent power supply and can supply constant voltage / constant frequency power to the load side. Therefore, it is possible to secure reliability through verification of actual system linkage and independent operation performance of hybrid ESS, By enabling low-carbon green growth technology to operate in conjunction with an efficient grid, it is possible to improve irregular power quality and contribute to peak load by generating renewable energy through ESS linkage. In addition, the ESS is replacing the frequency follow-up reserve, which is currently under the charge of coal-fired power generation, and thus it is anticipated that the operation cost of the LNG generator with high fuel cost can be reduced.

Optimal Flow Rate Evaluation for Low Energy, High Efficiency Cleaning of Forward Osmosis (FO) (정삼투 공정의 저에너지 고효율 세정을 위한 최적 유속 평가)

  • Forward osmosis (FO) is operated at a lower pressure than reverse osmosis (RO), which has great advantages in terms of fouling control, maintenance, membrane cleaning, and potential energy reduction. In particular, since the membrane fouling layer of the forward osmosis process has a relatively loose and dispersed property, it is possible to control the membrane fouling by physical cleaning, unlike the reverse osmosis process. However, existing studies do not apply the proper cleaning flow rate for forward osmosis physical cleaning, and thus there is a limit that the optimal operation can not be performed. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the justification of proper flow rate that can show high efficiency cleaning with economical energy amount. The membrane fouling experiments of the forward osmosis process were maintained at a circulating flow rate of 8.54 cm/s and the recovery rates were compared with the three cleaning flow rates. As a result of this experiment, it was confirmed that the 2 × speed cleaning showed the same efficiency as the water permeability recovery rate of the 3 × speed cleaning, and it was confirmed that the 2 × speed cleaning was an appropriate flow rate with high cleaning efficiency and economical SEC.

Evaluation of the Removal Characteristics of Pollutants in Storm Runoff Depending on the Media Properties (여재 특성에 따른 강우 유출수 내 오염물질 제거특성 평가)

  • The aims of this study were to evaluate the removal efficiency for various pollutants in urban storm runoff by a filtration device, and to determine design parameters depending on filter media properties. Appropriate selection of filter media will affect the size and life time of the filtration device. Sets of column tests were performed in order to evaluate the removal efficiency by perlite and a synthetic resin. An investigation of surface properties including CEC (cation exchange capacity) and zeta-potential suggested that the perlite had a superior adsorption capability for cationic pollutants. TCODcr and turbidity were analyzed to investigate the removal characteristic of particulate pollutant. In both columns, the particles in the collected storm runoff was almost completely capture with a small EBCT (empty bed contact time) of 2.5 minutes. Complete clogging at the EBCT of 2.5 minutes occurred after 630 minutes in the perlite column and 810 minutes in the resin column. The removal efficiency of TCODcr and turbidity at the EBCT of 2.5 minutes decreased to below 70% due to an wall effect. The removal efficiency for dissolved pollutant (SCODcr) was negligible due to the insufficient contact time for adsorption. The removal of heavy metals (Cu, Zn, Pb) was mostly ascribed to the filtration of particles containing metals, since the relationship between CEC and the removal efficiency was not apparent. The result of this study would be valuable for the application of filtration device to control of urban storm runoff.

Study on Operating Characteristics for NOx Reduction in Ultra Low NOx Burner Combustion Using 80 kW Furnace (80 kW 초 저 NOx 단일 버너 연소로에서 NOx 감소를 위한 운전특성 연구)

  • This experimental study investigates the design parameters to achieve ultra low NOx combustion of coal using a 80 kW capacity single-burner furnace. The influence of key design parameters such as SN, overall and burner-zone equivalence ratios, primary/secondary air ratio, overfire air (OFA) ratio were tested for a total of 81 cases. The results showed that weak swirl intensity of the burner leads to higher NOx emission whereas strong swirl intensity accompanies increased CO concentration desipte lower NOx emission. Therefore, finding an appropirate swirl intensity is essential for the burner design. Larger flow rate of secondary air increased NOx emission, whereas smaller flow rate stretches the flame and increased CO emission. The lowest NOx emission of 82 ppm (6% O2) was achieved at the optimal condition of the present burner deisgn. It is expected to furrther lower the NOx emission by introducing splitting the burner secondary air into three or four streams.
