Development of Vehicle Classification Algorithm using Non-Contact Treadle Sensor for Toll Collect System (통행료징수시스템을 위한 무접점 답판 방식의 차종분류 알고리즘 개발)

  • Vehicle classification system in domestic tollgates is usually to use treadle sensor for calculating wheel width and tread of the vehicle. Due to the impact that occurs when the wheels of the vehicle contact, treadle sensor requires high durability. Recently, KHC(Korea Highway Corporation) began operating high-speed lane for cargo truck. High-speed cargo truck generate more impact the design criteria of previous treadle. Therefore, an increase in the maintenance and management costs of the treadle damage is concerned. In this paper, we propose an algorithm to classify vehicles using non-contact treadle sensors for improving durability from physical impacts. This was based on the KHC's classification criteria and showed a classification accuracy of 99.5 % in one experiment with 1892 vehicles through Changwon tollgate in 1020 local road. Therefore, it shows that vehicle classification system using non-contact treadle sensor could be applied to domestic toll tollgates, effectively.

In this paper, we propose an algorithm for obtaining optimal wheel width and tread using non-contact treadle sensor that been improved durability from physical impacts. for the verification of the proposed algorithm, a field test was performed using 1/2/3/6 class vehicles based on the KHC's classification criteria. through this experiments, maximum error of the width and the tread is each ${\pm}2cm$ and ${\pm}8cm$, also the accuracy was measured as 98%, 97% or more, and proved that the proposed algorithm valid on to apply to the vehicle classification system.

Air Quality Monitoring System Using NDIR-CO$_2$ Sensor for Underground Space based on Wireless Sensor Network (비분산적의선 CO$_2$센서를 이용한 무선 센서 네트워크 기반의 지하 공기질 모니터링 시스템)

  • In this study, a remote air quality monitoring system for underground spaces was developed by using NDIR-based CO$_2$ sensor. And the remote monitoring system based on wireless sensor networks was installed practically on the subway station platform. More than 6.5 million citizens commutate everyday by the Seoul subway transportation that is the most typical public transportation. They concern about air quality with increasing interest on public health or many workers in subway stations or underground shopping centers. Recently, the Korean Ministry of Environment has operated the air quality monitoring system in some subway stations for testing phase. However, it showed many defects which are large-scale, high-cost and maintenance of precision sensors imported from abroad. Therefore this research includes the reliability test and a theoretical study about the inexpensive commercialized CO$_2$ sensor for reliable measurement of air quality which changes rapidly by the surrounding environments. And then we develop the wireless sensor nodes and the gateway applied for remote air quality monitoring. In addition, web server program was realized to manage air quality in the subway platform. This result will be valuable for a basic research for air quality management in underground spaces for future study.

The Improvement of Electrical Point Machine Wiring Set (선로전환기(NS)의 배선세트 개선)

  • An Electrical Point Machine (NS:New-type Switch), which is equipped and operated at railways in Korea, has been used since the 1960s after being imported from Japan. On the other hand, although the mechanical configuration has improved the position motor control circuit, the electrical connection has not been improved, so NS may have a problem, such as the interlocking system of automatic train operation. In addition, NS is the most vulnerable part in the railway system and a huge train accident may occur due to minor defects. The existing NS wiring set of the circuit controller should be checked only if fixed. Therefore, an excessive inspection time only by a Railroad Signal expert is required. In this paper, the improvement of electrical connection in a NS wiring set, such as the position motor control circuit, was developed and the prototype was installed at Seoul Metro in the distance to go section. The results can be used to help make appropriate adjustments. The improvement of the NS wiring set enhance the maintenance efficiency, passenger service and the stability of the signal system as well as reducing the maintenance cost.

  • Due to intense climate changes and extreme weather conditions a noticeable decrease has been observed in the growth of certain plants. The indoor plant factories would have certain benefits including increase in crop yield, reduction in distribution cost, and maintains the healthy freshness level of the agricultural product. Recently, an artificial light source with optimum wavelength is spot lighted to fulfill the need of light for the indoor plant factories. The energy efficient light emitting diodes (LED) provide the essential light energy for the proper growth of indoor cultivated plants. This work focuses to utilize ubiquitous sensors network(USN) in providing suitable environment for the proper growth of agricultural product inside the indoor plant factory. The proposed system makes use of sensors and actuators, communicating each other through WPAN, ZigBee network. The proposed system obscured the traditional indoor plant factories with easy installation and wireless connectivity of the sensors and actuators along with eliminating the web of wires reducing the initial installation and maintenance cost.

  • More efforts have been given to solve the problems related to computer software by process assessment. ISO/IEC 15504(SPICE) has been developed as standardized means for process assessment. The purpose of this paper is to design and implement a process assessment system which is appropriated to the Korean assessment environment based on ISO/IEC 15504. Referring documents are: IS0/1EC 15504 standardized documents, the assessment provisions of the SPICE committee in Korea, and research papers applied the existing process assessment system to real cases. Among a lot of processes, this system is designed for (ENG2). The proposed system in the paper will support the whole process of assessment, presenting the goals and end-products for each assessment step and making it possible to compose and save the product on the same screen. In determining process rating, assessors can retrieve the saved data and documents. By doing so, the system will improve reliability in process rating. The proposed system includes 7 steps of pre-assessment and 9 steps of actual assessment in order to fully prepare assessors for process assessment. And each step has been standardized to improve user-friendliness. This system is designed to provide assessors with specific details of standardized documents, the goals of the process, outcomes of implementing the process, and presentations of base practices and input/output products. Above all, the system automatically generates an assessment rating, by calculating based on input data which assessors make out. It also presents outcomes graphically.

  • The road network becomes more complex and extensive. Therefore, the inconveniences are caused in accordance with the time delay of the restoration of damaged roads, demands for excessive costs on information collection, and limitations on acquisition of damage information of the roads. Recently, road centric spatial information is gathered using mobile multi sensor system for road inventory. But expensive MMS(Mobile Mapping System) equipments require high maintenance costs from beginning and takes a lot of time in the data processing. So research is needed for continuous maintenance by collecting and displaying the damaged information on a digital map using low cost mobile camera system. In this research we aim to develop the techniques for mosaic with a regular ground sample distance using successive image from oblique camera on a vehicle. For doing this, mosaic image is generated by estimating the homography of high resolution oblique image, and the ground sample distance and appropriate overlap are analyzed using high resolution aerial oblique images which contain resolution target. Based on this we have proposed the appropriate overlap and exposure interval for mobile road inventory system.

  • Many studies have been carried out in order to develop a frequency efficient communication system than the current communication system for satisfying the increasing demands of wireless data services in mobile communication systems. If a communication system dramatically improving the frequency utilization efficiency is not developed, service providers must maintain more number of base station equipments to meet the increasing demands of wireless data service. Service provider needs a system or method to reduce maintenance costs. Demands of wireless data service are changed according to time of day, location and so on. Power consumption can be reduced if the supplied power of communication systems is controlled by wireless data traffics. This paper describes the design and implementation of power management system of mobile communication base station's equipment based on smart grid. The proposed power management system controls the supplied power to the mobile communication infrastructures depending on the demand of wireless data. Field test results of the implemented system show the proposed system saves 26% of the power consumption in the base stations.

  • After the Davos Forum, the recent 4th Industrial Revolution has become an area of interest to countries around the world. Among the technologies of the 4th industrial revolution, the ubiquitous computing environment requires a convergence environment of various devices, networks, and software technologies, and the RFID technology that identifies objects among the IoT technology fields is applied to all industries and has a competitive edge. Systems to which RFID technology is applied are being used in various industrial fields, especially! It is efficiently used for accurate inventory management and SCM management in the field of distribution and logistics. If the RFID system is built in a cloud-based environment, it will be possible to secure reliability in distribution management in consideration of an effective logistics management system and economic feasibility. This study is a study on the RFID system in a cloud computing environment to reduce the cost of operating or maintaining an application server to improve the economy and reliability.

  • The railway signalling system for safe train operation regulates the train speed to ensure the safety distance between consecutive trains by using wayside facilities such as track circuits and interlocking systems. In addition, this signalling system controls the trackside equipment such as a railway point along the train line. This ground-equipment-based train control systems require high CAPEX and OPEX. To deal with these problems, the train control system using the on-board controller has been recently proposed and its related technologies have been widely studied. The on-board-controller-based train control system is that the on-board controller can directly control the trackside equipment on the train line. In addition, if this system is used, the wayside facilities can be simplified, and as a result, the efficient and cost-effective train control system can be realized. To this end, we have developed the prototypes of the on-board controller and wayside object control units which control the point and crossing gate and performed the integrated operation simulation in a testbed. In this paper, before the field test of the on-board-controller-based train control system, we perform the preliminary field trial including the installation test, wireless access test, interface test with other on-board devices, and normal operation test.
