A Priority-based Feedback Control Mechanism for Scalability (확장적 우선 순위 피드백 제어 기법)

  • When a multicast video conference system utilizes RTP (Real Time Protocol) and RTCP (Real Time Control Protocol), the loss rate and the synchronization of transfer in RTCP affect the scalability of the system. The random delay technique introduced to resolve the problems is so simple that leads the network to meet some congestion in synchronizing feedback information when lots of people transfer the feedback information simultaneously, which reduces the scalability of system. In this paper, we propose a new feedback control algorithm that provides priority levels with the RTCP packet, which cuts down the feedback delay and increases the scalability. The criteria of providing priority Based on the decided priority level, Agent forced the session participants to provide much more RTCP packets, positively controlled, and the possible bandwidth can be measured. The simulation on this technique decreases the delay, and the feedback messages are equally distributed on a given time period.

An Analysis and Numerical Simulation on Southwestern Prevailing Wind Phenomenon around Pohang in Winter (포항지역의 겨울철 남서계열 탁월풍 현상에 관한 분석 및 수치모의)

  • The prevailing wind phenomenon around Pohang in winter was investigated by using surface and vertical observatory datas and a numerical simulation was carried out to analyse this phenomenon using RAMS. Direction of the prevailing wind was westerly at upper atmosphere. However, near the surface, southwestern wind prevailed in winter. Using the RAMS to simulate a winter wind system numerically, it was found out that this phenomenon was strongly affected by the geographical features such as directions of coastline and low level valley, and distributions of land and sea. To investigate the accuracy of the model results, wind speed, temperature and wind direction of typical continuous southwestern wind occurring days were compared with observation data. Analyzing the characteristics of local circulation system was very hard because of horizontally sparse observation data. But from the result above, a numerical simulation using the RAMS, which satisfies the spatial high resolution, will provide more accurate results.

Plastic Shrinkage Cracking Reduction of Press Concrete Using Admixtures in Basement (주차장바닥에서 혼화재료들을 사용한 누름콘크리트의 소성수축 균열저감)

  • In Korea, press concrete in basements is mainly applied using plain concrete. This system has undesirable defects such as cracks caused by plastic shrinkage and irregular temperature distribution. To solve this problem, metal lath and fibers have been used in the past. However, they have not been effective in controlling cracks. This study analyzed the reduction of plastic shrinkage cracking for press concrete using various admixtures in a basement has been. In the air contents test, the specimens with various admixtures showed air contents similar to plain concrete (4.5±1.5%). The specimens using silica fume, super plasticizer agent, and SBR showed higher compressive strength by about 10-15% than plain concrete. Cracking decreased when the MC, super plasticizer, and SBR were added. When MC was used in the concrete, the plastic shrinkage did not occur.

An Evaluation of Software Quality Using Phase-based Defect Profile (단계기반 결점 프로파일을 이용한 소프트웨어 품질 평가)

  • A typical software development life cycle consists of a series of phases, each of which has some ability to insert and detect defects. To achieve desired quality, we should progress the defect removal with the all phases of the software development. The well-known model of phase-based defect profile is Gaffney model. This model assumes that the defect removal profile follows Rayleigh curve and uses the parameters as the phase index number. However, these is a problem that the location parameter cannot present the peak point of removed defects when you apply Gaffney model to the actual situation. Therefore, Gaffney model failed to represent the actual defect profile. This paper suggests two different models: One is modified Gaffney model that introduce the parameter of Putnam's SLIM model to replace of the location parameter, the other is the growth function model because the cumulative defect profile shows S-shaped. Suggested model is analyzed and verified by the defect profile sets that are obtained from 5 different software projects. We could see from the experiment, the suggested model performed better result than Gaffney model.

A Model for Estimation Software Development Team Size (소프트웨어 개발팀 규모 추정 모델)

  • Estimation of development cost, effort and time is difficult and a key problem of software engineering in the early stage of software development. These are estimated by using the function point which is measured from a requirement specification. However, it is often a serious Question of the staffing level required for the software development. The purpose of this paper is to show us the model which can be used to estimate a size of development team. Three hundred one software projects have been analyzed and studied for the model. First, an analysis was conducted for statistical algorithmic model. After various data transformation and regression analysis, it was concluded that no good model was available. Therefore, non-algorithmic model was suggested for analysis, which has random distribution of residuals and makes good performance using RBF (Radial Basis Function) network. Since the model provides a standard to determine the required size of development team, it ran be used as management information.

Characteristics of Infrared and Water Vapor Imagery for the Heavy Rainfall Occurred in the Korean Peninsula (한반도에서 발생하였던 집중호우 시 적외 및 수증기 영상의 특성)

  • In this study, we analyzed the spatio-temporal variations of satellite imagery for the two heavy rainfall cases (21 September, 2010, 9 August, 2011) occurred in the Korean Peninsula. In general, the possibility of strong convection can be increased when the region with plenty of moisture at the lower layer overlapped with the boundary between dark and bright area in the water vapor imagery. And the merging of convective cells caused by the difference in the moving velocities of two cells resulted in the intensification of convective activity and rainfall intensity. The rainfall intensity is more closely linked with the minimum cloud top temperature than the mean cloud top temperature. Also the spatio-temporal variations of rainfall intensity are impacted by the existence of merging processes. The merging can be predicted by the animation of satellite imagery but earlier detection of convective cells is almost impossible by using the infrared and water vapor imagery.

  • The concepts of static seat allocation model has been used widely in the air transportation industry, and proven as a good concepts for managing perishable assets. The paper analyzed, in realistic environment, the volume of Accept Demand and Reject Demand through several times' simulation experiments at each fare level by using C-Program analyzing process applied to upward and downward models of demand, to analyze the change of fare level when upward and downward shifts of fare levels' demand happen at once. As a consequence, I concluded that the revenue of the case to consider the both shifts of demand at each fare level is bigger than that of the case to consider the single shift of demand at each fare level, except the case to downsize the seat allotment at very low price when supply is bigger than demand, with developing a general model concerned with plural fare levels.

Distributions of Organic Matter and Trace Metals in Surface Sediments around a Manila Clam Ruditapes phillippinarum Farming Area in Gomso Bay, Korea (곰소만 바지락(Ruditapes phillippinarum) 양식장 주변 퇴적물 내 유기물과 미량금속 분포특성)

  • Organic matter and trace metals were investigated in surface sediments of Gomso Bay, where there is dense Manila clam Ruditapes philippinarum farming activity, to evaluate contamination of sediments in intertidal shellfish farming area. We measured mean grain size (Mz), chemical oxygen demand (COD), ignition loss (IL), acid volatile sulfide (AVS), total organic carbon (TOC), and total nitrogen (TN), and trace metals (As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Hg, Mn, Pb and Zn) in intertidal and sublittoral sediments. The intertidal sediments were mainly composed of coarser sediments (sand, silty sand, and sandy silt), with Mz values ranging from 2.61 to 4.79 Ø. Mz and the content of organic matter in sediments were lower in the intertidal zone than in the sublittoral zone. The mean metal concentrations in surface sediments decreased in the order Fe > Mn > Zn > Cr > Pb > Cu > As > Cd > Hg. The metal concentrations in surface sediments showed a significant positive correlation with Mz and organic matter content, indicating that metal concentrations in the surface sediments of Gomso Bay are controlled by Mz and organic matter. The concentrations of organic matter and trace metals in the study region were lower than or similar to those in other intertidal zones in western coast and much lower than those reported in other shellfish farming areas in Korea. Our results suggest that intertidal Manila clam farming sediments from Gomso Bay are not contaminated by organic matter and trace metals.

Turfgrass Nematodes Isolated from Some Golf Courses (몇몇 골프장에서 발견된 잔디선충)

  • The plant parasitic nematodes were surveyed from Zoysia matrella, Agrotis palustris, and Poa pratensis at Anyang Benest Golf Club, Dongrae Benest Golf Club, and Gapyeong Benest Golf Club and from A. palustris at Castle Pine Golf Club. Criconema sp., Ditylenchus sp., Helicotylenchus sp., Meloidogyine sp., Pratylenchus sp., Tylenchus sp., and Tylenchorhynechus sp. were separated from unhealthy turf areas. In addition, Tylenchorhynechus dubius was firstly recorded from A. palustris at the green of Castle Pine Golf Club. Meloidogyne sp., Helicotylenchus sp., Ditylenchus sp., and Pratylenohus were separated from Z. matrella, Meloidogyne sp. and Pratylenchus were from A. palustris, and Meloidogyne sp., Tylenchus sp., Tylenchorhynchus sp., Criconema sp., and Helicotylenchus sp. were from P. pratensis. Out of separated nematodes, Meloidogyne was the most serious nematode and widely distributed.

Distribution and Contamination Status of Trace Metals in Surface Sediments of Shellfish Farming Areas in Yeoja and Gangjin Bays, Korea (남해안 패류양식해역(여자만과 강진만)의 퇴적물내 미량금속 분포특성 및 오염도 평가)

  • The concentrations of trace metals (As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Hg, Mn, Pb, and Zn) were determined in 49 surface sediment samples collected in Yeoja and Gangjin Bays on the south coast of Korea, which contain many shellfish farms, in order to assess the contamination level and to understand the spatial distribution of trace metals. The average metal concentrations in the surface sediments of both bays decreased in the order Fe > Mn > Zn > Cr > Pb > Cu > As > Cd > Hg. There were no differences in metal concentrations between shellfish farms and reference sites. The metal concentrations were significantly higher in Gangjin Bay than in Yeoja Bay. Notably, the Cu, Cd, and Hg concentrations were nearly twice as high in Gangjin Bay as in Yeoja Bay. A multivariate analysis showed a strong correlation among Fe, Mn, Zn, Pb, and Cr in the sediments of both bays, implying that the metal concentrations in the sediments in the study area were mainly dependent on natural processes, such as crustal components and diagenesis. Based on the geoaccumulation index and marine sediment quality guidelines (SQGs), the surface sediments in Yeoja and Gangjin Bays are not polluted by trace metals.
