  • A response prediction model is introduced for the non-lockin vibration of a marine riser in sheared flow, where the riser is modelled as linearly varying tensioned-beam. This prediction model is based on the Green's function approach and random vibration theory. This model, of course, can treat general beams having slowly varying spatial system parameters. According to the predicted result of a marine riser by the prediction model proposed in this paper, the dynamic behavior of a marine riser has the mixed characteristics of finite and infinite boundary behavior. Furthermore the velocity response distribution along the riser length is much similar with the sheared flow profile. The predicted response result of a marine riser having linearly varying tension was also compared to that of constant mean tensioned-beam model. It was found that the constant mean tensioned-beam case gives over-estimated responses at the top side of the riser.

  • Neutron inelastic scattering studies on polycrystalline hydrates, NaBr-2$H_2O$ and BaCl$_2$-2$H_2O$ have been performed to observe librational modes. Assuming all observed peaks are from the $H_2O$ librational origin, the weighted frequency distribution functions are obtained by eliminating the contributions from the higher order processes. All of theoretical frequencies obtained using FG matrix method are dus to highly mixed modes, and therefore the modes identified as significant $H_2O$ librationat modes from their large potential energy distributions are assigned to the observed peaks. The H-bond interactions are estimated using a modified Lippincott Schroeder potential function, and the applicability of the potential function to the H-bond with highly bent or bifurcated configuration is examined on the basis of the shape of $H_2O$ librational potential energies. Some discussions are given on the usefulness of introducing O-H…Y bending terms in addition to the H…Y stretching in similar frequency calculation in order to obtain more information on the nature of H-bond. Also the purity and symmetry properties of the $H_2O$ librational modes are discussed using group theoretical analyses.

  • Commonly, one seeks a particular pattern suitable for stock cutting and the number of such patterns through linear programming. However, since the number of the patterns increases exponentially, it is nearly impossible to predetermine all the existing patterns beforehand. This paper thus proposes an algorithm whereby one could accurately predetermine the number of existing patterns by applying Suliman's feasible pattern method. Additionally, this paper suggests a methodology by which one may obtain exact polynomial-time solutions for feasible patterns without applying linear programming or approximate algorithm. The suggested methodology categorizes the feasible patterns by whether the frequency of first occurrence of all the demands is distributed in 0 loss or in various losses. When applied to 2 data sets, the proposes algorithm is found to be successful in obtaining the optimal solutions.

  • In this study, we investigated the kinematical properties of the L1521F-IRS in Taurus region using HCN (J=1-0) molecular line. The high resolution mapping has carried out by $5{\times}5$ point observations covering $3.7'{\times}3.7'$ area using a 12-m telescope of Arizona Radio Observatory in Tucsan, USA. L1521F which harbors the faint infrared L1521F-IRS, displayed a strong central concentration of integrated intensity in HCN without serious molecular depletion. It showed a symmetric kinematical structure with the opposite infall motion in either side of the central cores. It is a direct evidence of bipolar outflows in the core of L1521F.

  • Modern people is generated as musculoskeletal diseases due to incorrect posture and habit. In the case of persistent abnormal posture outbreak inconvenient to musculoskeletal diseases in daily life. musculoskeletal diseases, which began as fatigue, pain, sensory paralysis, convulsions are developed symptoms of movement disorders, depression, deformities, etc. In this paper, the unrestrained abnormal posture and habit of occurring in the seat life, have implemented a system which can be determined in less unconscious way. By placing eight pressure sensors in the seat part, determines the posture over the distribution of the weight, it is possible to determine one normal posture and eight abnormal posture that occurs frequently in daily life. To evaluate the performance of the implemented system, the attitude determination experiment was performed. The results confirmed the high performance of 97%.

  • This study investigated to distribution of Lepidoptera on the forest stands of cental Gangwon area from July to August in 2005. Collected Lepidoptera in the study area were total 462 individuals 123 genus 15 family and were collected 166 individuals, 66 genus, 15 family in Jumbong Mt., 159 individuals 65 genus 15 family in Eungbok Mt. and 137 individuals 40 genus 9 family in Odae Mt.. Dominant species in study area were Ampelophaga rubiginosa 54 individuals, Antheraea yamamai 35 individuals, Dendrolimus superans 27 individuals, Triphaenopsis jezoensis 14 individuals, Lymantria monacha 13 individuals. Shannon species diversity index(H') and Evenness index (J') were 1.52, 0.84 in Jumbong Mt., 1.69, 0.91 in Eungbok Mt., 1.87, 0.83 in Odae Mt. respectively. Community similarity index showed the lowest value in Jumbong Mt. and Odae Mt. as 0.11, the highest value in Jumbong Mt. and Odae Mt. as 0.28.

  • In this paper, a new random access scheme is proposed to improve the probability of successful access. In the conventional scheme, a packet is transmitted by a user using one slot and considered successfully transmitted if a collision does not occur. In comparison, a packet of the proposed scheme is transmitted by a user using one or more slots and considered successfully transmitted if there is at least one slot without collision. We evaluate the optimal number of slots selected by users to maximize the probability of successful access when the probability distribution functions for the number of users are given such as Binomial and Poission distribution. From the numerical analysis, it is shown that the proposed scheme performs better than conventional scheme.

  • A muscovite and a sericite altered from plagioclase taken from the Sungyeong tin-bearing pegmatite near the Sangdong mine are dated by K-Ar method. The muscovite and the sericite yield $1546.94{\pm}29.4\;Ma$ and $187.80{\pm}4.19\;Ma$,respectively. The muscovite age can be assumed to become younger than the previously reported K-Ar muscovite ages of the pegmatites around this area, because radiogenic argon in the muscovite could be partially lost by the heat of later hydrothermal activities which caused the plagioclase to be sericitized in the Jurassic time (about 190 Ma).

  • Numerical models simulating the process of NAPL from contaminated soil or groundwater through steam injection can be a useful tool for designing and evaluating the cleanup strategy under various field conditions. One and two dimensional numerical analyses were conducted based on the governing equations describing the NAPL removal as a non-isothermal, multi-phase and multi component process. Relatively good agreements were obtained between the numerical results and the observations from one-dimensional laboratory experiment, except some discrepancy due to experimental difficulties. Simulation effectively identified the steam displacement process of xylene floating on the water table and TCE sinking on the aquifer bottom in a two-dimensional analysis. Overall, simulation models have a high potential in the design/appraisal of a system for field application of the technique as well as in the examination of complex processes such as vaporization which is hard to identify experimentally.

  • In general, dose rates for a monoenergetic gamma emitter uniformly distributed in an infinite cloud have been calulated by using the monoenergetic point-isotorpic source kernel technique. The most serious limitation on use of the kernel technique is subjected to the fact that it estimates the dose only at the surface of body. As a result, an alternative method is presented in which estimates of dose rate for immersion in a radioactive cloud are resulted from the scattered photon spectra incident on the surface of body. The results are in excellent agreement with other's. Work is currently in progress to apply these results to immersion dose problems associated with absorbed dose distribution in the MIRD phatom.
