Crack Propagation Analysis for IMO Type-B Independent Tank with Liquefied Natural Gas Carrier (LNG 운반선에 적용된 독립형 탱크의 균열 진전 해석에 관한 연구)

  • Membrane-type hull and cargo holds have been designed and built for large ship. However, there is a growing interest in applying the same technology to small and medium-sized Liquefied natural gas(LNG) carriers to meet the recent increase in demand for LNG as an ecofriendly fuel and for expanding LNG bunkering infrastructure. The purpose of this study is to apply the IMO Type-B tank to small and medium-sized LNG carriers and verify the safety and suitability of the design. Fatigue crack propagation analysis was performed to install a partial second drip tray installed at the lower part of the LNG cargo tank by calculating the amount of leaked gas in the support structure supporting the cargo tank. First, a program for fatigue crack propagation analysis was developed, in which Paris' law and British Standard 7910 (BS 79110) were applied based on the International Code for the Construction of Equipment and Ships Carrying Liquefied Gases in Bulk, an international standard for LNG carriers. In addition, a surface crack propagation analysis was performed. Next, a methodology for assuming the initial through-crack size was developed to determine the size of the partial second barrier. The analysis was performed for 15 days, which is a possible return time after cracks are detected. Finally, the safety and suitability of the IMO Type-B for LNG cargo tanks required by international regulations were verified. For the accurate analysis of fatigue crack propagation, it is necessary to develop and verify the analysis procedure based on direct analysis and international regulations.

  • The package used to transport radioactive materials, which is called by the shipping cask, must be safe under normal and hypothetical accident conditions. These requirements for the cask design must be verified through test or finite element analysis. Since the cost for FE analysis is less than the one for test, the verification by FE analysis is mainly used. But due to the complexity of mechanical behaviors, the results depend on how users apply the codes and can cause severe errors during analysis. In this paper, finite element analysis is carried out for the 9 meters free drop condition of the hypothetical accident conditions using LS-DYNA3D and ABAQUS/Explicit. We have investigated the analyzing technique lot the free drop impact test of the cask and investigated several vulnerable cases. The analyzed results were compared with each other. We have suggested a reliable and relatively simple analysis technique for the drop test of spent nuclear fuel casks.

The Carrier Gas Effects on Selectivity and the Enhancement of Selectivity by Surface Passivation in Chemical Vapor Deposition of Copper Films (구리 박막의 선택적 화학기상 증착에 대한 운반 기체의 영향과 기판 표면 처리에 의한 선택성 증진 효과)

  • 차세대 반도체 배선분야에서, Cu박막은 현재의 AI을 대체할 물질로서 대두되고 있으며 CVD에 의한 선택적 증착은 Cu의 patterning과 관련하여 상당한 관심을 일으키고 있다. 본 연구에서는 (hfac)Cu(VTMS)의 유기원료를 사용하여, CVD공정변수, 운반기체, 표면 처리 공정에 따른 SiO$_{2}$, TiN, AI기판에 대한 선택성을조사하였다. 선택성은 저온(15$0^{\circ}C$), 저합(0.3Torr)에서 향상될 수 있었으며, 특히, HMDS in-situ-predosing공정에 의해 더욱 향상될 수 있었다. 모든 경우에 대해, H$_{2}$운반기체가 Ar 보다 짧은 incubation time과 높은 증착 속도가 얻어졌으며, Cu입자들의 크기가 작고 연결상태가 보다 양호하였다. 이는 H$_{2}$경우에 기판표면에 원료가 흡착되어 핵을 형성시키는 위치 (-OH)가 보다 많이 제공되기 때문으로 여겨진다. 이러한 미세구조의 차이는 H$_{2}$경우에 보다 낮은 비저항을 얻게 했다. HMDS in-situ predosing공정에 의한 Cu박막내 불순물 차이는 없었으며 뚜렷한 비저항의 차이도 나타나지 않았다.

  • In this short review, the polymer electrolyte membranes consisting of polymer and Ag salts were introduced and various approaches to solve the long-term stability were summarized. In particular, utilizing $AgNO_3$ as carriers with ionic liquid, the replacement of polymer matrix as poly(ethylene phthalate) (PEP) for strong coordinative interactions with Ag ions and the introduction of $Al(NO_3)_3$ to $polymer/AgBF_4$ complexes were introduced for long-term stable facilitated olefin transport membranes. For the polymer nanocomposite membranes, the role of electron acceptors as polarizer on the surface of AgNPs and the approach to solve the low permeance were introduced.

Relationship of Compliance and Oxygen Transport in Experimental Acute Respiratory Failure during Positive End-Expiratory Pressure Ventilation (실험적 급성호흡부전에서 호기말양압에 의한 폐유순도와 산소운반의 변화 및 상관관계 - 호흡부전의 기전에 따른 차이 -)

  • Background: Positive end, expiratory pressure (PEEP) has become one of the standard therapies for adult respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Total static compliance has been proposed as a guide to determine the size of PEEP ('best PEEP') which is of unproven clinical benefit and remains controversial. Besides increasing functional residual capacity and thus improving oxygenation, PEEP stimulate prostacyclin secretion and was proposed for the treatment of acute pulmonary embolism. But little is known about the effect of PEEP on hemodynamic and gas exchange disturbances in acute pulmonary embolism. Methods: To study the validity of total static compliance as a predictor of 'best PEEP' in ARDS and acute pulmonary embolism, experimental ARDS was induced in mongrel dog with oleic acid and acute pulmonary embolism with autologous blood clot. Then hemodynamic and gas exchange parameters were measured with serial increment of PEEP. Results:In ARDS group, total static compliance and oxygen transport were maximal at 5 cm$H_2O$, and decreased thereafter (p<0.05). With increment of PEEP, arterial oxygen tension ($PaO_2$) and arterial carbon dioxide tension ($PaCO_2$) increased and cardiac output and physiological shunt decreased. In pulmonary embolism group, total static compliance, oxygen transport, physiological shunt and cardiac output decreased and $PaO_2$ and $PaCO_2$ increased with increment of PEEP (p<0.05). Comparing the change induced by increment of PEEP by 1 cm$H_2O$ in ARDS group with that in pulmonary embolism group, there was no significant difference between two groups except cardiac output which decreased more in pulmonary embolism group (p<0.05). In ARDS group, oxygen transport and total static compliance increased after PEEP application, and total static compliance was maximal at the PEEP level where oxygen transport was maximal. However in pulmonary embolism group, oxygen transport and total static compliance decreased after application of PEEP. There was significant correlation between change of total static compliance and change of oxygen transport in both groups. Conclusion: In both ARDS and acute pulmonary embolism, it can be concluded that total static compliance is useful as a predictor of 'best PEEP'.
