Objective : The purpose of this study was to examine foreign literature on the evaluation and interventions for motor functions in children. Methods : Studies in this review were identified by searching the PubMed, Cochrane Library (Embase) databases from those published form January 2010 to March 2020 using the following keywords: "motor function test" or "motor function measure" or "movement assessment" or "motor proficiency test" or "motor scale" or "motor skill" and children. Results : Of the total 37 identified studies, 14 analyzed evaluations, 23 analyzed interventions, all of which were randomized control trials. Studies on evaluations were increasingly more common, in contrast to studies on interventions for motor functions. The most frequent field of research was rehabilitation. The studies on evaluations included the AIMS and MABC-II, and GMFM was the most frequently used intervention. Interventions were most commonly used in task-oriented training (six studies). Conclusion : This study aimed to provide a basis for therapists to choose effective motor function evaluation and interventions for clinical trials by analyzing studies related to interventions for and evaluation of motor function in children.
It is well established that endurance performance is negatively affected by environmental heat stress. Numerous scientific investigations have attempted to improve performance in the heat with pre-cooling and per-cooling for endurance athletes. Some cooling strategies are more logistically challenging than others, and thus are often impractical for use in training or competition. The purpose of this study was to review the literature on the use of cooling interventions in the improvement of performance and recovery from exercise-induced heat stress. We undertook an examination that focused on the effects of pre-cooling and per-cooling on the improvement in endurance performance and the effects of post-exercise cooling on recovery. The benefits for pre-cooling and per-cooling strategies undertaken in the laboratory setting could be employed by athletes who compete in hot environmental conditions to improve performance. Most laboratory studies have shown improvements in endurance performance following pre-cooling and per-cooling, and in recovery following post-cooling. Cooling strategies such as cooling vest, neck cooling collar, menthol and ice slurry are practically relevant to sports field. Cooling interventions that can be applied frequently to reduce thermal strain prior to, during and directly after training appear to be the best effective strategy to improve performance and recovery. Future research is warranted to investigate the effectiveness of practical pre-cooling and per-cooling strategies in competition or field settings.
This study assessed the effects of soy isoflavones supplementation with exercise on urinary mineral (calcium, magnesium, copper, zinc) excretion as an index of bone resorption rates in 67 postmenopausal women. A total subjects were assigned to Isoflavone (90 mg/day) or placebo groups. These groups were further divided into groups that undergone a regular exercise or a rather sedentary state performing daily activity only. We conducted study eight week period. Result showed urinary zinc excretion was more significantly decreased in the isoflavone-sedentary group ($-180.76\;{\pm}\;171.30\;ug/day$) than in the placebo-sedentary group ($-31.23\;{\pm}\;146.60\;ug/day$), placebo-exercise group ($40.93\;{\pm}\;193.44\;ug/day$) and isoflavione-exercise group ($-1.21\;{\pm}\;160.61\;ug/day$) (p < 0.05), but no significant changes in the differences between the values of the pre and post study values in urinary calcium, magnesium and copper excretion. These results suggest that Isoflavone supplementation decrease urinary zinc excretion rate in postmenopausal subjects.

Objective : The purpose of this study was to provide evidence for the effectiveness of Sensory Integrative Intervention (SII) through a systematic review. Method : The systematic review was executed using MEDLINE/PubMed, PsycINFO, CINAHL, Cochrane Library, OTSeeker. The key words for search was "effects of sensory integration", "sensory integration therapy", and "sensory integration intervention". 11 studies were used for data analysis, and the level of evidence were level I, leve lII and level IV. The substances of review were subject (population), method (intervention type), effect of the intervention, outcome parameter, and outcome measurement. Results : 1. The subjects of SII were autism spectrum disorders (30.7%), pervasive developmental disorder (15.4%) and preterm infants (15.4%). 2. Most frequently used method was the traditional intervention of J. Ayres (36.5%). The outcome parameters of SII were behavioral outcome (40.63%), motor performance outcome (28.13%), sensory-based outcome (25.0%), and academic outcome (6.35%). 3. The effects of SII were improvement of motor performance (66.7%), sensory-based (62.5%), and behavior problems (61.5%). In most studies, however, academic skill such as writing skill was not a positive outcome parameter in terms of effectiveness of SII. Conclusions : The results implied that the sensory integrative intervention is effective on motor performance, sensory-based and behavioral change, but not on the academic skill. It is suggested that the future research need to be done to examine whether and how the effect of sensory integration intervention can be long-lasting and contribute any academic skill and activities of daily living performance.
Objective : The purpose of this study was to analyze non-invasive treatments and drooling assessment methods in children with cerebral palsy and developmental disabilities, who drool. Methods : This study searched two hundred papers published in 2005-2019. Forty-four papers were selected based on their abstract and title, and ten papers were finally selected following a secondary search. Results : The PEDro Scale of the selected papers was high with an average of seven points. As a result of analyzing the overall trends, the study participants were primarily patients with cerebral palsy, and recently, the therapeutic intervention of oral sensory exercise was more actively studied than behavioral modification. Studies of behavioral modification and oral sensory exercise intervention methods were found to have differences in participant age and, cognitive level, number of participants, research design, treatment time, and duration. Studies to confirming the frequency and severity of the drooling measurement method were found to be the main factor. Conclusion : This study analyzed typical behavioral modification and oral sensory exercise interventions as examples of non-invasive therapeutic interventions for children with cerebral palsy and developmental disabilities and provided information to help select appropriate therapeutic intervention methods when planning non-invasive therapy using behavioral modification and oral sensory exercise therapy.
Objective: This study was conducted to comprehensively analyze domestic and international literature on the oral sensorimotor intervention approaches and evaluation/non-instrumental assessment methods for children with cerebral palsy with feeding disorders. Methods: One hundred and seventy-six papers published from January 2009 to December 2018 were screened. Forty-seven papers were selected based on the abstract and title, and five papers were selected through a secondary search. Results: The PEDro scale of the selected papers was high with an average of 7 points, and the therapeutic intervention period was found to be between 2 and 6 months, providing therapeutic interventions once to 5 times a week, at least 15 minutes to 1 hour a day. The treatment approach was used with impairment-based intervention and adaptive-based intervention, and the assessment method was divided into clinical evaluation and non-instrumental assessments. Conclusion: Through this systematic review, we found that there are a variety of oral sensorimotor interventions for children with cerebral palsy with feeding disorders. This study provides support for planning oral sensorimotor intervention programs for occupational therapy in clinical practice for children with cerebral palsy.

Purpose : This study aims to identify changes in the visuomotor coordination and fine motor coordination functions caused by the use of a task-oriented intervention in a child with developmental delay. Methods : The participant, who was a 6-year-old girl, was not diagnosed but showed a developmental delay in overall function. The study period was February 5, 2021, to June 4, 2021, and a single-subject A-B study design was used. The baseline (A) was initially evaluated in the first three sessions to identify the child's functions. In the intervention period, 12 session (B), task-oriented intervention was applied; the child engaged in many of the activities in kindergarten, such as painting, writing, making, and cutting with scissors. Visuomotor coordination and fine motor coordination were equally measured during the baseline and intervention periods. Visuomotor coordination was measured via drawing of an oval according to the Korean Developmental Test of Visual Perception 3 (K-DTVP-3), and fine motor coordination was assessed using the finger-nose touching item of the Clinical Observation of Motor and Postural Skills (COMPS). Results : The mean of the baseline of the K-DTVP-3 oval drawing was 23, and the mean of the intervention period was 39.66. The mean of the baseline of the COMPS finger-nose touching was 0, and the mean of the intervention period was 5.08. Conclusion : Task-oriented intervention seems to have a positive effect on the visuomotor coordination and fine motor coordination abilities of children with developmental delay.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of exercise on cognitive function in the elderly through a systematic literature review and meta-analysis. For the study purpose, 14 studies were selected through a systematic process of using several databases and 11 studies were used to estimate the effect size of exercise on cognitive function. Meta-analysis was performed using a random effects model, and the effect size on cognitive function was calculated. The effect size for cognitive function of exercise intervention was Hedges' g=1.05 (95% CI: 0.61~1.50), indicating a large effect size. For heterogeneity, moderator analysis was performed using intervention, number of times per week, intervention duration, and cognitive function measurement. Cognitive function measurement was statistically significant, the other moderators did not significant difference. Results support that exercise has significant positive effects on cognitive function in elderly in korea. It also provided a basis that can be applied to exercise intervention design for cognitive function.
Purpose: This study aims to examine the effect of increased physical activity (PA) regarding health-related quality of life (QOL) and nutrition intake in hemodialysis patients. Methods: The research was quasi-experimental using pre-test and posttest design. The participants were 60 patients, 30 each in the experimental and control group. The program was up to eight weeks long and involved two kinds of aerobic exercises: intradialytic aerobic exercise to be performed thrice a week and walking for up to seven days a week. The 60 patients undergoing hemodialysis for end-stage renal disease underwent assessment of International Physical Activity Questionnaires (IPAQ), 24-hour diet recall and a 12-item short-form health survey (SF-12; physical component summary score(PCS) and mental component summary score(MCS)) before and after the exercise program. Nutrition intake was assessed using CAN-2.0. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-test, 𝑥2 test, and Mann-Whitney U test. Results: In the experimental group, PA post-test scores were also significantly higher than the pre-test scores and the levels of physical component summary score (PCS) in QOL were significantly improved post-test, but the scores on nutrient intake did not improve. The levels of PCS were significant correlations animal protein, manganese, selenium, and Vitamin C. Although there was no group effect, total calorie of nutrition intake was higher than the comparison group. Conclusion: Combined intradialytic exercise and walking was found to be effective on PA, and PCS in QOL. Therefore, the findings of the current study may provide an appropriate guidance for encouraging exercise by hemodialysis patient.
The purpose of this study was to know influenced on the change of Oswestry back pain disability index(OBPDI), isometric muscle power(IMP), muscular activation with chronic low back pain(CLBP) patients after Trunk Stabilization Exercise. Intervention was provided 6 weeks(5 days a week). Muscular activation was measured during IMP(Muscles : transversus abdominis : TA, internal obliqus : IO, external obliqus : EO, rectus abdominis : RA and erector spinae: ES). The results were as follows. 1. OBPDI about the MBE and the SE groups had effective decrease pain and disability. 2. IMP of intervention after the MBE and the SE groups had effective improve muscle power. 3. Muscle activation during IMP of intervention after was : TA, IO, RA had increase in the MBE and the SE groups. EO muscle activation during IMP of intervention after had increase only MBE groups. This shows that the MBE and the SE groups had effective increase because it has effective improve muscle power. Therefore, this study shows £hat trunk stabilization exercise program influenced on the change of OBPDI, IMP, muscular activation with CLBP patients.
