Diglossia of Literature in the Middle Ages and Literacy Education: - Hwang Jini and Heo Nanseolheon in the 16th century- (중세 양층언어문학과 문식성 교육 - 16세기 허난설헌과 황진이의 사례를 중심으로 -)

  • This study is based on the view point of diglossia that Chinese writing held a higher position than Korean language in the Joseon Dynasty, especially during the 16th century. Diglossic writers were focus on and the implication of diglossia in literacy education was examined. In particular, the diglossic literary features of Korean poetry and songs were examined, with a focus on differences in the authors' gender: female(Hwang Jini and Heo Nanseolheon) and male (Lee Hwang, Jeong Cheol and others). In the case of diglossic literature written by male poets, their Hansi and Sijo had quite different subjects. In addition, their Hansi, which was the exclusive property of noblemen, was largely based on their lives. However, the female poet Heo Nanseolheon covered wider range of subjects and used the first-person point of view, even when the content was not based on her actual life. In particular, she wrote Hansi as lyrics for Korean songs and thus, some of her Hansi can be enjoyed through singing. This differs considerably from the work of male diglossic writers. Furthermore, this tendency can be seen in the history of Hansi after the 18th century. Another female poet, Hwang Jini free from Neo-Confucianism, depicted her free thoughts and expressions in Sijo and reflected various poetic speakers' situations in both Sijo and Hansi. This is especially interesting since women were considered to be of lower social class at that time; these two female poets did not just refuse to follow the writing patterns of male noblemen, they also applied the characteristics of Korean poetry and songs to Hansi and disrupted the traditional characteristics of Hansi. In current education, the 2015 revised national curriculum put emphasize on understanding not only the scope of functional literacy, but also the principle for enhancing critical perception with respect to understanding the ways of communication of power and hierarchical structure. This can be considered a good principle, although mainstream literature does not pay attention to it. In addition, it can be applied through self-internalization and an acceptance of literature in school education by using the spoken language culture that students generally prefer in digital media. Highlighting the perception of advantages and characteristics, when minority statuses are linked to artistic freedoms to flout current prevailing values and cultural tendencies, can enhance not only classical literature literacy but also improve students' characteristics and competency.

  • The purpose of this paper is to study the development process of our native verses from the Three Kingdoms Period to the Goryeo Dynasty. The contents of the discussion can be summarized as follows. Typical form of "Sanega" from the Three Kingdoms Period to the late Silla/ early Goryeo Dynasty is a well organized 3-layered structure representing the contents of enlightenment of a high priest. Sanaega has a poetic style characterized by distinct literary features compared to other native verses in the same era. The reason is that 10-line Hyangga improves its poetic level as it is aware of Chinese poetry. As it enters the Goryeo Dynasty, this literary composition starts to change. In other words, Sanega declines and quatrain emerges in the front of literary history. Unlike the Three Kingdoms Period ~ the late Silla/ early Goryeo Dynasty, development of quatrain results from that native verses enhances the characteristics of song rather than poem in the Goryeo Dynasty. Native verses form the mutually complementary relationship by adjusting the position as the song rather than competing with it as the poem as Chinese poetry becomes more common. In the Goryeo Dynasty, Sanaega declines and Sijo emerges in literary history, because native verses have been developed in the poetic form to freely express general emotion and to be more loved from the public. It is in the same vein as a native verse in the form of quatrain raises its vitality by enhancing the characteristics of the song through the adjustment of its position compared to Chinese poetry.

JANG-YOOK-DANG's and Irreverence by casting upon the world (장육당(藏六堂)의 육가(六歌)와 완세불공(玩世不恭))

  • JANG-YOOK-DANG(장육당) is the pen-name of Lee, Byeol(이별). His elder brother is Lee, won(이원). He was putted to death by the king Yeon-san(연산군). So abandoning the way of the world, JANG-YOOK-DANG hided himself at mountain valley in Peong-san of Hwng-haedo(황해도 평산). Here he angled for fish and with the persons over sixty years old drunk, sang the songs. Then he composed the poem . This poem spreaded abroad, and came to the ears of Lee, Hwang(이황). He criticized this poem to have irreverence by casting upon the world, not to have gentleness and affability. But imitating the poem he composed intended to be sung. For that gentleness and affability are the instruction of the Poetry, he filled the poems with contents of the gentleness and the affability. But the livings of the two persons were different, and then their poems was intended to be sung were different. In these different contents, we can not say that this or that is right. JANG-YOOK-DANG would do to express his bitter sentiments by his song.

초등영어교육에 있어서 발음교육

  • 우리 나라에서 초등영어 교육이 실시되는 연령층이 언어습득 분야에 있어 그렇게 일찍 언어학습을 시작하는 것이 학습효율성의 측면 또는 언어숙달도 측면에서 과연 이로운지에 관해서는 학자들간에 아직도 논쟁의 여지가 많다. 피아제의 인지발달론에 의하면, 의식적 조작이 잘 이루어지지 않는 분야가 바로 발 음분야이기 때문에, 따라서 의식적 조작이 이루어지는 '형식적 조작기'이전인 10-11세 정도에서부터 음성언어 중심의 외국어 교육을 실시하는 것이 바람직하다고 본다. 따라서 듣기와 말하기의 기능에 주안점을 둔 초등영어 교육은 감각과 놀이, 게임, 노래나 챈트 둥으로 흥미를 지속시키면서, 영어의 특질인 강세박자리듬언어(stress-timed rhythm language)의 특성올 초창기부터 듣기 및 말하기 훈련으로 지속적으로 연습시킬 필요가 있다고 본다. 또한 James Asher가 창안한 교수법인 천신반용볍(Total Physical Response)도 초기에 말하기에 대한 부담감 없이 흥미 있는 활동을 통하여 학습동기를 높여줄 수 있는 장점을 지니고 었다. 뿐만 아니라, 청취단계에 있어서 초기에는 귀로들은 외국어를 무조건 기억하지 않고 즉각적인 인지로 끌어내어, 점차 이와 같은 인지훈련을 반복함으로써 결국에는 기억에까지 도달하려 하는 초기학습에 중한 역할을 차지하는 학습법이다. 음성학적인 측면에서 초동영어 교육의 시작단계인 3학년에서는 특히 분절음소 차원에서 영어의 자,모음이 우리말의 자,모음과는 다르다는 차이점을 배우게 되고, 초분절 음소 중에서는 강세와 리듬의 차이를 자연스럽게 습득할 수 있도록 정확한 발음을 들려주어 정확한 발음을 해 낼 수 있도록 훈련하는 것이 중요하다고 하겠다. 하지만, 한편으로는 제6차 교육과정의 영어교육 목표가 언어의 '정확성'보다는 '유창성' 에 그 목표를 두고 있는 점을 감안한다면, 시작단계부터 반드시 정확한 발음을 지녀야 하는 가의 문제도 생각해 볼 필요가 있다. 경우에 따라서는, 정확한 발음은 그 언어에 대한 숙련도가 점차 높아짐에 따라 이와 병행하여 이루어지는 경우도 흔히 경험하는 일이기 때문이다. 결국 초등영어 교육과정에도 명시되어 있듯이 '...영어에 대한 친숙함과 자신감을 심어주고, 영어에 대한 흥미와 관심을 지속적으로 유지시키는 것이 중요하기' 때문에 무엇보다 중요한 측면은 흥미와 관심을 유지시키는 지적인 학습활동보다는 정의적인 학습활동의 전개가 필요하다고 하겠다.

Importance of Enjoyment Method in Classic Poetry Education and its Methodological Study (고전시가 교육에 있어 향유 방식의 중요성과 그 방법론적 탐색)

  • This paper discusses this seminar's theme, 'Classic Literature Enjoyment Methods and Education,' with a focus on the genre of classic poems. However it does not focus on any individual method by discussing a specific genre or enjoyment method but focuses on a fundamental discussion. The importance of a functional relationship between the classic poetry genre and its enjoyment method is raised avoiding a generalized discussion. There are things that researchers often forget about classic poems. They forget that most classic poems are not ordinary poems but songs that are to be sung, and thus they should, in principle, be expressed in Korean language. These two facts about classic poems, indicate that their enjoyment method should be given importance. Compared to modern poems, Chinese classic poems, folk songs, and other forms of verse, only classic poems have the aforementioned conditions unique to them. In addition, classic poems include several types of poems, Japga (literally, miscellaneous songs), and Siga (literally, poem-song) genres representing each era, so it is important to discuss the characteristics of such poems with respect to their times periods and genres. Even based on such characteristics, the enjoyment situation where works are created and sung in the genre of classic poems is very important, and thus the enjoyment method issue should be closely linked with the study of works and genres. This study examines how the topics of enjoyment methods for classic poems is reflected in the current middle education curriculum. To improve the current situation, it outlines the issues that arise when enjoyment methods for classic poems are applied to textbooks or classes, set as textbook unit goals or criteria for achievement, and presented as measures designed to plan the composition of works and learning activities. Future studies on literary educational methodologies are expected to further examine the enjoyment methods for poems in class discussed herein.

A Study on the Correlation of Sijo with Akjang (시조와 궁중 악장의 관계)

  • The purpose of this study is to research the correlation of Sijo with Akjang. In Joseon Dynasty, the contact of folk music and court music was brisk. Although they had some political premises, many Jeongjaes presented in the royal court parties accepted Gagok, one of the representative folk song genres. It was an eye-opening matter. The song words sung by Gagok music accompaniment were the lyrics of Sijo. We can give Sijo that was used in diverse royal court parties as an typical example about introduction of folk music to the court music. A lot of Goryeo Dynasty's Jeongjaes were introduced to Joseon Dynasty nearly as they are. Naturally so most Sokak-gasas were. Bukjeon was sung to Jinjak tune which Jeong-gwajeong was sung. Bukjeon in the music book Akhak-Guebum is a long song, but instead Bukjeons in the music book Geumhapjabo and Yang'geum-sinbo are short. It suggests that the poetic form of Sijo was introduced to the Lyric of royal court music from a point of time in the early Joseon Dynasty. Especially, Bukjeon had been continued to the late Joseon Dynasty after exchanging to the lyric form of Sijo. Bukjeon had been used In the royal court to the first half of Joseon Dynasty It became established in the repertory of Gagok after spreading to people out of court. Turnover from the long Bukjeon to the short was a result that the folk music influenced royal court music. Bukjeon. song words praying King's longevity. was used in the diverse situations such as a small royal parties, royal archery, and King's outing. It can be a clue that the Korean song words continued to late Joseon Dynasty were used for the lyric of royal court music. In the correlation of the poetic form of Sijo and Akjang, we can find out some characteristics different from our common sense to distinguish royal court music from folk music.
