Fresh ginseng roots were extracted by different extraction methods to estimate the amount of extracts, and the content of common constituents and ginsenosides for comparison. The results are as follows: 1 The amount of the extract obtained by water as a solvent was about five times higher than those by ethanol or pressing process. 2. Water extraction at 70-$80^{\circ}C$ gave highest value in saponin yield, which was reduced by half by boiling, 3. The saponin yield by pressing process was shown to be about 52% of total saponin; saponins belonging to protopanaxatriol-ginsenosides being extracted better than those belonging to proto-panaxadiol-ginsenosides . 4. The contents of total sugar, reducing sugar, crude protein and total amino acids in the water extract were revealed to be higher compared to those in an ethanol extract. 5. The extract obtained by press had the highest ash content.

In order to develope an efficient drug delivery system, experimental researches on the supercritical impregnation of ibuprofen onto mesoporous silica, MCM-41,and its drug release characteristics were performed. Supercritical carbon dioxide was adapted as an alternative solvent as it is harmless and able to avoid defects of organic solvents in drug manufacturing processes. The procedure was composed of three steps, that is, as hydrothermal synthesis of MCM-41, supercritical impregnation of ibuprofen onto MCM-41 and release of impregnated ibuprofen. Supercritical impregnation reached equilibrium within 2 h for all cases of this research and the amount of equilibrium impregnation increased with solubility of ibuprofen in supercritical carbon dioxide. Release profiles of impregnated ibuprofen showed a similar behavior for all MCM-41 with different impregnated ibuprofen.
The effect of ethanol concentration on saponin composition of red ginseng extract was studied during extraction at $80^{\circ}C$ for 5 times of 8 hours. The increase in ethanol concentration from 0% to 90% resulted a gradual reduction in solids yield and an increase in the recovery of total ginsenosides. All of the ginsenosides determined were also significantly increased, but ginsenoside-$Rb_1.$-$Rb_2$ and -Rd were relatively decreased a little by raising the concentration 70% to 90%. The yield ratio of protopanaxadiol/protopanaxatriol saponin were in the range of 1.69${\sim}$1.95. No significant improvement in pure saponin yield was observed between 70% and 90% ethanol. Extraction with 70% ethanol was suggested for preparation of red ginseng extract from the result of this work.

The analytical method of 14 kinds of coplanar - PCBs was established and applied the soil sample. The three kinds of extraction solvents (toluene, acetone: n-hexane, dichloromethane) were selected to apply the soil sample. The silica gel, florisil and alumina column cleanup also performed to compare the elution recovery. The average recovery of selected solvents in soil A, B and C was surveyed the 84.25%, 56.09% and 44.69% for toluene, 52.56%, 81.42% and 58.53% for acetone : n - hexane and 55.94%, 71.33% and 61.05% for dichloromethane. The average recovery is represented 49.99% for silica gel (n - hexane 100 mL), 69.65% for florisil (6% ether/n - hexane 100 mL), and 65.23% for alumina (2% DCM : n - hexane 100 mL, 50% DCM: n-hexane 150 mL). In silica gel (n - hexane) and florisil (6% ether : n - hexane) cleanup, the 14 kinds of coplanar PCBs eluted until 40 mL. In the silica gel and florisil columns cleanup, the amounts of elution solvent can be reduced from these results, but the researcher has to confirm the elution amounts before performing the experiments. In alumina cleanup process, the result was obtained to the 100 mL of elution solvents (2% DCM: n-hexane 100 mL and 50% DCM: n-hexane 40 mL), therefore the change of elution solvent is necessary to develop the simple procedure.
This study was conducted to evaluate the MSPD and HPLC method about simultaneous determination for residual synthetic antimicrobials of sixteen species such as sulfonamide etc. in livestock products. Elution solvent used in HPLC was ethylacetate:acetonitrile (4:1), and mobile phases for solvent A and B were water:methanol:acetonit rile:phosphric acid (700:250:50:0.2) and 100% acetonitrile respectively. The detector and absorbency used in HPLC was UV 266 nm. This study showed the reduction effect of 99.1% for organic solvents, 94% for experimental steps, 95% for analytical time and manpower and 98.9% for costs compared with korea food standard method. The average recovery rates for chicken, bovine, pork and milk were 67.7% 96.2%, 67.7%~96.6%, 70.0%~96.2%, and 13.8%~97.8%.
This study was carried out to find an environmental friendly and effective way to leach Au and Ag from scrap of Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) using sodium-hypochlorite solution. In an EDS analysis, valuable metals such as Cu, Sn, Sb, Al, Ni, Pb and Au were all found in PCBs. The highest leaching rates obtained were 1% of pulp density with a chlorine:hypochlorite of 2:1 and a concentration of NaCl at 2M. The highest Au recovery was observed with the addition of sodium metabisulfite to make a 3M solution. It is confirmed that the leaching agent (chlorine-hypochlorite) could effectively leach Au and Ag from Printed Circuit Boards (scrap parts) and the additive reagent sodium metabisulfite could easily precipitate Au from the chlorine-hypochlorite solution.
The swelling and hydration properties of Korean red ginseng tails and yield of total solids in extract were studied during extraction with ethanol solution having a concentration of 0-90% at $60-100^{\circ}C$. Extraction was carried out 5 times which was taken 8 hours per each time of extraction. The swelling, hydration and total solids yield were increased as the ethanol concentration decreased and as the extraction temperature raised. The cumulative value of solids yield suggested that three times of extractions with water or 70% ethanol were effective to recover more than 84%. Linear regression analysis on the properties investigated and extraction conditions showed a linear logarithmic relationship .
In the recycling industry, the recuperation of zinc from Electric Arc Furnace dust by the Waelz process generates important quantities of slag. This slag presents good mechanical properties, and for the most siliceous slag. a high stability which would enable its use by total or partial substitution of certain granulates in civil engineering Our study (within the framwork of a European programme cofunded by the European Commission-DGXII) concerns the physico-chemical and mineralogical characterization and leaching behaviour of several types of Waelz slag. The leaching tests are regulatory tests and specific characterization tests of leaching behaviour. They take into account the influence of several main parameters of the valorization scenarios envisaged for the slag(e.g. pH, Redox potential, chemical nature of the leachant, type of contact-liquid/ solid etc.).
This study was conducted to know the odor characteristics and compounds in neutral, acidic and basic fraction from the essential oil of Valerliana fauriei root. Among the fraction from the essential oil of V. fauriei root, the content of neutral fraction was 92%, that of the acidic fraction, 6%, and that of basic and phenolic fractions, less than 1%, respectively. The neutral fraction was characterized by sweet-balsamic, woody, musky and medicinal odor. The acidic fraction had sweat-socks, valeric-like and cheese-like odor characters. The netural fraction of essential oil was fractionated by solvents with different polarities, resulting in 44% of ethyl ether fraction, 34% of pentane-ethyl ether fraction, 11% of pentane fraction and 11% of methanol fraction. The ethyl ether fraction was characterized by woody and medicinal odor and the pentane-ethyl ether fraction, by sweet-balsamic, woody and herb-like odor. The fractions were fractionated again by different solvents, and 12 chemical components including valeranone, 26 components including bornyl acetate, and 43 components including camphene were identified in the ethyl ether fraction, the pentane - ethyl ether fraction, and pentane fraction, respectively. In the acidic fraction, n-butanoic acid and other 44 components were identified, among which the most abundant ones were 3-methyl butanoic acid(42.1%), dimethoxy-2-propanoic acid(11.5%), and 5-ethyldihydro-2H-furanone(5.7%).
