This study was performed to determine the effect of patients with colon polypectomy on health behavior practices. Data were surveyed using interview and questionnaires by 112 patients with colon polypectomy in a general hospital who were located in Seoul from December 6, 2010 to January 31, 2011. Data were evaluated with t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and Stepwise multiple regression. The results were as follows: First, the higher control of life habit was, the more positive attitude(r=.350, p<.01) and the less inconvenience was significant correlation(r=-.263, p<.05). Secondly, in the stepwise multiple regression analysis, the most important factors influencing health behavior practices were control of life habit(${\beta}$=.392, p=.000), and then inconvenience of life(${\beta}$=-.265, p=.007), weight gain(${\beta}$=-.248, p=.024). In conclusion, positive attitude and control of life habit are necessary to improve the health behavior of patient with colon polypectomy.
Peutz-Jeghers syndrome is an autosomal dominant inherited syndrome characterized by mucocutaneous pigmentation and gastrointestinal hamartomatous polyps. The most important complications that increase morbidity are intussusception, bleeding and obstruction. Most patients with Peutz-Jeghers syndrome may undergo multiple laparotomies for complications such as intussusception or bleeding every 2 to 3 years during adolescence and early adulthood. To decrease the relaparotomy rate, intraoperative endoscopy may be useful in the treatment of complications that are related to Peutz-Jeghers syndrome. Use of intraoperative endoscopy can lead to a healthier life and to a longer life expectancy for the patient. We describe a case of Peutz-Jeghers syndrome, who underwent polypectomy by total gut endoscopy in an 11-year-old girl presented with intestinal obstruction and anemia. During the course of the operation, the endoscope was inserted per the enterostomy and colostomy sites, and 16 polyps in the small and large intestine were removed endoscopically using a snare.

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the correlation between severity of endometriosis and the incidence of endometrial polyp. Methods: The study population consisted of six hundred thirty-one women who had undergone laparoscopic operation due to infertility, severe dysmenorrhea or ovarian tumors. We divided two groups: 434 women with endometriosis (study group) and 197 women without the disease (control group). The presence of endometriosis was documented by diagnostic or therapeutic laparoscopic operation and the disease severity was scored according to revised The American Fertility Society classification. We confirmed the endometrial polyps by pathologic examination after hysteroscopic polypectomy, and compared endometrial polyp incidence according to severity of endometriosis. Results: There was no significant difference between groups with regard to age, mean duration of infertility. Endometrial polyps were found in 274 women (63.0%) with endometriosis and in 58 controls (29.8%, p=0.0000). The incidence of endometrial polyps differed significantly according to stage of endometriosis. The incidence of endometrial polyps were 77/142 (54.2%), 58/90 (64.4%), 73/108 (67.6%, p<0.05), 66/94 (70.2%, p<0.05) in endometriosis stage I, II, III, and IV. There was a linear correlation between stage of endometriosis and endometrial polyps incidence (p=0.008). Conclusion: Endometriosis is accompanied by endometrial polyps. This results showed positive correlation between severity of the endometriosis and incidence of endometrial polyps. It is the possible mechanism for low pregnancy rate in the severe endometriosis.
Carcinoma of the gallbladder is an uncommon but highly malignant tumor with a poor five year survival rate. Early detection is very important for successful treatment because this tumor is very hard to cure in cases where it has advanced beyond the reach of surgical treatment. The purpose of this review was to evaluate risk factors for carcinoma of the gallbladder and determine the best management approach.. Solitary polys, more than one cm are considered to be predisposing factors for gallbladder carcinoma when they are found to be echopenic, sessile, and with a high cell density. Anomalous union of the pacreato-biliary duct(AUPBD) without a choledochal cyst is also considered to increase risk for gallbladder carcinoma. A polyps size of more than one cm and an AUPBD are indications for prophylactic cholecystectomy. The presence of gallstones is a well-established risk factor for the development of gallbladder carcinoma; risk appears to correlate with the stone size and the duration of chronic cholecystitis. Metaplastic changes of the gallbladder epithelium present with chronic cholecystitis and may indicate a premalignant lesion. Abnormal forms of cholecystitis such as xanthogranulomatous or a porcelain gallbladder also have malignant potential; cholecystoenteric fistula as well as bacterial infection of the gallbladder(typhoid, helicobacter species) also has malignant potential. In this review, the risk factors associated with carcinoma of the gallbladder are summarized with special attention to gallstones, polyps, AUPBD, and chronic inflammation.
Gastric carcinoid tumor is a neoplasm that arises from enterochromaffine-like (ECL) cells in the gastric fundus. It is a rare disease that comprises less than 2% of all gastric neoplasms; however its incidence has been recently increasing. We experienced one case of gastric carcinoid tumor that was revealed to be multiple polypoid lesions. A 29-year-old female patient visited a hospital three years ago due to syncope. The blood hemoglobin was measured as 6.0 g/dl. Gastroscopy revealed multiple polypoid lesions with bleeding; therefore endoscopic clipping was performed. The polyps were diagnosed as carcinoid tumor via endoscopic biopsy. She was transferred to our hospital because of persistent iron deficiency anemia that was caused by bleeding at the gastric polyps. Gastroscopy revealed more than twenty various-sized polypoid lesions from the mid-body to the antrum. The blood hemoglobin level was 9.0g/dl. Total gastrectomy was performed under the diagnosis of gastric carcinoid tumor with bleeding. All of the gastric polyps were diagnosed as carcinoid tumors, and any metastasis to the regional lymph nodes was not found. Eighteen months after operation, the blood hemoglobin was increased to 12.8g/dl with no evidence of recurrence. Surgical resection should be considered for treating gastric carcinoid tumor with continuous bleeding.

Background and Objectives : Vocal polyps and nodules are representative chronic benign laryngeal disease. Treatment options for vocal polyp and nodule in general include voice therapy or laryngeal microsurgery. The purpose of this study was to analyze voice results before and after laryngeal microsurgery. Materials and Method: Vocal polyp and vocal nodule patients were treated by laryngeal microsurgery from March 2004 to December 2006 at Kosin University Hospital. All were women. Voice analysis studies were done before and after laryngeal microsurgery. Five measurements were performed: MPT, Fo, jitter, shimmer and NHR. Results: There was significant improvement in the vocal polyp patients regarding MPT, jitter, shimmer and NHR. Also there was significant improvement in the vocal nodule patients regarding MPT, jitter and shimmer. Conclusion: MPT, jitter, shimmer and NHR will be effective acoustic parameters in documenting the quantitative changes in the vocal polyp patients. MPT, jitter and shimmer will be effective acoustic parameters in documenting the quantitative changes in the vocal nodule patients before and after laryngeal microsurgery.
Pure lipoma, originating from the trachea is a very rara disease entity A-37-ycar-old-male patient had suf'leered from intermittent episodes of dyspnea and has been treated under the diagnosis of bronchial asthma for 6 months. On chest CT scan and bronchofiberscopic examination, a round mass with the pedunculated neck was found in the mid-portion of the membranous portion of the intrathoracic trachea. Under the guide of fiberoptic bronchoscope, the mass was extirpated using polypectomy w re loop and eletrocauterization . He was discharged without any events on third postoperative day of operation and has been well without recurrence for 6 months.
Purpose: Colonic polyposis is less common in children than in adults. The clinical data pertaining to colonic polyposis in children are limited. Children with colonic polyposis have complications associated with numerous polyps, malignant transformation of the polyps, and extraintestinal neoplasms. We studied the clinical spectrum, endoscopic characteristics, and histologic findings of colonic polyposis in Korean children. Methods: We reviewed the clinical data of 37 children with multiple colonic polyps between 1987 and 2009. The mean age at the time of diagnosis of colonic polyposis was 8.0${\pm}$3.2 years. Results: Peutz-Jeghers syndrome, juvenile polyposis syndrome, familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP), and lymphoid polyposis was diagnosed in 22, 7, 6, and 2 children, respectively. The most common clinical presentation in children with colonic polyposis was hematochezia. A family history of colonic polyposis was noted in 7 children. The colonoscopic findings of colonic polyposis varied with the size and number of polyps. The majority of polyps were multi-lobulatd and pedunculated in children with Peutz-Jeghers syndrome. The polyps in children with juvenile polyposis syndrome were primarily round and pedunculated. For the children with FAP, the colon was carpeted with small, sessile polyps. There were multiple sessile polyps in the patients with lymphoid polyposis. Surgical polypectomy was performed in 14 children (38%). Intestinal segmental resection was performed in 13 children (35%). Four patients with FAP underwent total colectomy. Four children with Peutz-Jeghers syndrome had extraintestinal neoplasms. No malignant transformation of polyp was identified. Conclusion: Children with colonic polyposis should undergo a careful initial evaluation and require periodic re-evaluation.

The pulsed photoangiolytic 532-nm potassium-titanyl-phosphate (KTP) laser has emerged in recent years as an efficacious treatment modality for vocal fold lesions. It also has broadened the indications for other laryngeal laser surgery. Features of KTP laser that it is a fiber-based delivery system and its energy is selectively absorbed by oxyhemoglobin make it suitable for office-based laryngeal procedures. An office-based KTP laser surgery provides an alternative management option for benign laryngeal diseases and can be performed comfortably under flexible endoscopic guidance which is placed through the nose of a fully awake patient. Office-based laryngeal surgery with a KTP laser can alleviate the need for general anesthesia. However, there are some limitations to apply due to reduced visual precision and the fact that the vocal folds are moving during procedures. Clinicians should carefully weigh the advantages and disadvantages of office-based procedures before a treatment option is selected. Patient selection and standardized laser energy parameters may help in decreasing complications and improving the treatment results.
