  • Sweating, which is the excretion of oil on the surface of a solid product containing several kinds of pigments in oil and is also solidified with wax, is a unique phenomenon often observed on the surface of cover make-up or lipstick. The cause of sweating is an imbalanced formula. Many studies have been conducted to decrease the symptoms of sweating in the field of cosmetics. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) is a thermo-analytical technique that measures the amount of heat required to increase the temperature of a sample as a function of temperature or time under certain conditions. DSC has been used to determine the thermal properties of oil/wax structures. This study investigates how the thermal characteristics correlate with the sweating symptoms. An oil/wax formulation with an optimal melting point was studied in an attempt to make a stable product by considering the thermal properties that represent minimal structural changes with temperature variation. In addition, the sweating of the oil/wax formulation was observed over a various temperature range. As a result, it was found that sweating was minimized when the structure remained static or little bit changed over a variety of temperatures.

  • In order to deliver fixed partial denture to a patient successfully, dentist must take into many considerations beforehand. Patient's occlusal pattern should be fully understood before delivering any type of prosthesis, whether it's canine guidance or group function occlusion. In order to do so, movement of mandible should be recorded precisely. Introduced by Meyers in 1933, functionally generated path technique (FGP) has been successfully used to record mandibular movement with various materials, such as wax, and utilize it in fabricating precise prosthesis. In the following cases, patients showed secondary caries or endodontic-periodontic lesion on maxillary molars. Root canal treatment and subgingival curettage were done for each patient. Since the long term prognosis of each tooth was questionable, lateral force should be minimized. In order to do so, FGP technique was used to record mandibular movements precisely. Instead of using conventional plaster impression, intra-oral scanning of wax tracing was done to fabricate prosthesis efficiently. After delivery of fixed partial denture, favorable outcome was obtained.

  • The digital facebow device records the trajectory of the mandibular movement where it is then reflected on the computer-aided design software, leading to an improvement on treatment outcomes of prosthetic restorations. In this clinical case, using a digital technology, an implant placement and prosthetic restoration were done in a patient who has lost maxillary and mandibular molars. Following an intraoral scan, a surgical stent for implant surgery was fabricated based on digital diagnostic wax-up, and implants were installed. After six months of sufficient osseointegration, customized abutments and the first temporary prostheses were delivered. Then two months later, at an abutment level, an intraoral scan and digital facebow transfer device were used to mount the intraoral scan data on a virtual articulator, and record the mandibular movements. Once the second temporary prostheses were fabricated and delivered on a basis of the mandibular movement, the definitive zirconia prostheses were designed and delivered based on a stabilized occlusion that was duplicated via double scan technique.

  • Jaw motion tracking, which is introduced in recent case reports, is a method which records the patient's individualized pathway of the mandibular movements along with facebow transfer, and reproduces the information in the virtual space of computer-aided-design/computer-aided-manufacturing (CAD-CAM) software. In this present case, a collapse of the occlusal plane was observed, due the loss of posterior teeth for a long period. Full-mouth rehabilitation with an increase in the occlusal vertical dimension was planned. First, the patient's mandibular movements were recorded on the newly established jaw relation by jaw tracking, and this information was assembled with the patient's intraoral data to create a virtual patient. Implant planning and diagnostic wax-up was done on the virtual patient, leading the fabrication of the provisional prosthesis. On the newly established jaw relation with an increase in the occlusal vertical dimension, canine guidance of the provisional prosthesis was checked. Finally, the provisional prosthesis was carried out to the definitive prosthesis. Using the advantages of the technologies in the digital dentistry, the patient was satisfied with the function and the esthetics after the treatment.

  • Purpose: Nowadays, checkbite methods and a digital sensor are used to analyze the movement of mandible. However, there are no study comparing two methods. Therefore, this study has compared measuring the condylar inclination methods by using the new ARCUSdigma 2 system and the checkbite method. Materials and methods: Young 20 adults without any orthodontic treatment experiences, missing teeth, and restorations with the change of occlusal plane were tested. Angles of condylar path were measured 3 times each, based on Camper's line, by using two methods. KaVo PROTAR Evo 7 semi-adjustable articulator was used and the data were statistically analyzed. Results: 1. The anterior sagittal condylar inclination by ARCUSdigma 2 system were measured as $26.97^{\circ}({\pm}7.38^{\circ})$ on the left side and $29.80^{\circ}({\pm}8.19^{\circ})$ on the right side. The lateral condylar inclination were measured as $5.75^{\circ}({\pm}3.47^{\circ})$ on the left side and $8.10^{\circ}({\pm}4.98^{\circ})$ on the right side. 2. The anterior sagittal condylar inclination by checkbite method were measured as $25.20^{\circ}({\pm}6.53^{\circ})$ on the left side and $28.18^{\circ}({\pm}7.38^{\circ})$ on the right side. The lateral condylar inclination were measured as $10.97^{\circ}({\pm}5.63^{\circ})$ on the left side and $12.03^{\circ}({\pm}5.22^{\circ})$ on the right side. There was no statistically significant difference between male and female (P>.05). 3. The lateral condylar inclinations of ARCUSdigma 2 were statistically significantly smaller than that of checkbite method (P<.05). Conclusion: In Both of 2 methods, there was no statistically significant difference between male and female (P>.05). However, the lateral condylar inclinations of ARCUSdigma 2 were statistically significantly smaller than that of checkbite method (P<.05).
