  • The densities and viscosities of 2-bromopropane-methanol binary mixtures had been determined using an digital vibrating U-tube densimeter and Ubbelohde capillary viscometer respectively from (298.15 to 318.15) K. The dependence of densities and viscosities on temperature and concentration had been correlated. The excess molar volume and the excess viscosity of the binary system were calculated from the experimental density and viscosity data. The excess molar volumes were related to compositions by polynomial regression and regression parameters and total RMSD deviations were obtained; the excess viscosities was related to compositions by Redlich-Kister equation and regression coefficients and total RMSD deviation of the excess viscosity for 2-bromopropane and methanol binary system were obtained. The results showed that the model agreed very well with the experimental data.

  • A supersonic base flow is computed to investigate the effect of the eddy viscosity coefficient to the linear ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence models. Slight modifications to the eddy viscosity coefficient, which are based on the realizability condition, are given to the Launder-Sharma turbulence model so that present models satisfy the realizability condition. Numerical results for supersonic base flow show that turbulence models with the weaky-nonlinear eddy viscosity coefficient can lead to reasonable enhancements in the prediction of the velocity and turbulent kinetic energy profiles.

  • Two compression ramp problems and an impinging shock problem are computed to investigate influence of turbulence models and eddy viscosity on the shock-wave / boundary layer interaction. A Navier-Stokes boundary layer generation code was applied to the generation of inflow boundary conditions. Computational results are validated well with the experimental data and effects of turbulence models are investigated. It is shown that the behavior of turbulence (eddy) viscosity directly affects both the extent of the separation and shock-wave positions over the separation.

  • An experiment was carried out to figure out the instantaneous flow characteristics in the wake of the transom stern's 2-dimensional section by 2-frame grey level cross correlation PIV method at $Re=3.5{\times}103$, $Re=7.0{\times}103$. The stern angles of models were learning at $45^{\circ}$(Model "A"), $90^{\circ}$(Model "B") and $135^{\circ}$(Model "C") respectively based on the survey results of real ships. The depth of wetted surface is 40mm from free surface. As Reynolds number increases, vortices increase in volume and move their way to the downstream. Flow separation appeared at the end of model's bottom.

  • Three-dimensional cohesive sediment transport model, COSETM-3, is develpoed using a finite difference method. The model results are compared with the physical experimental results for the relative concentration with time at the mid-depth of the recirculating flume and are found to be in good agreement. This model is applied to Suyoung Bay in Pusan of Korea to verify the field applicability of the model and to investigate on the SS (suspended solids) diffusion phenomena at the bay. Behaviors of discharging SS from Suyoung River at normal river flow and flood river flow are predicted. The numerical results appear to be reasonable and qualitative agreement with field data. The influence of settling velocity on the concentration distribution of SS is also investigated. In case of not considering settling velocity, SS concentration at surface layer is higher than that at lower layer, but in case of considering settling velocity, SS concentration at lower layer is higher than that at surface layer. The fluctuation of SS concentration at surface layer is large due to the strong mixing, but the fluctuation of the concentration at lower layer is small due to the weak mixing. SS diffusion patterns at flood river flow are similar to those at normal river flow, while the concentration at that flow is so much higher than that at this flow. SS concentration increases with time until the peak discharge occurs, but the concentration decreases with time with decreasing river flow after the peak discharge.

  • Changes in the rheological properties and the linear viscoelasticity of fish protein gel upon the thermal processing were studied by using mathematical models with stress-relaxation data. The linear viscoelasticity of surimi gel was observed in the range of the true strain $0.105{\sim}0.693$ and cross-head speed $50{\sim}250\;mm/min$ applied in this study. The results of the generalized Maxwell analysis showed that the magnitudes of elastic elements $(E,\;E_e)$ were increased, but the viscous element $({\eta}) $was decreased, as the cross-head speeds and strain levels were increased. Compared to the protein gel heated directly at $90^{\circ}C$ without preheating, the protein gel pretreated at $4^{\circ}C$ and $40^{\circ}C$ showed the higher elastic modulus, but showed different trends in the viscous component, depending on the rheological model applied. Thus, the approaching methods and curve fitting of two mathematical models of stress-relaxation to describe the viscoelastic properties of fish protein gel were discussed.

  • Bucket foundations, which are used in the foundations of offshore wind turbines, should be able to withstand large amounts of horizontal and moment loads. Tripod bucket foundation, which combines three single buckets, has been used to increase horizontal and moment capacities. This study performed numerical analysis using ABAQUS (2010), to analyze the group effect and the bearing capacity of a tripod bucket in clay. Parametric studies were performed varying the bucket spacing ratio S/D (S=spacing between the centers of the bucket and the tower; D=diameter of the bucket) and depth ratio L/D (L=embedded length of skirt). The applied constitutive models were a linear elastic perfectly plastic model with Tresca yield criteria for normally consolidated clay and an elastic model for buckets. Loading in the vertical, horizontal, and moment directions was simulated with an increase in each movement at a reference point. The bearing behavior and the capacities of a single and a tripod bucket were compared. Capacity evaluation method of the tripod bucket was suggested using the capacity of a single bucket.

  • Similitude requirement for model testing of flow induced vibration of reactor internals are investigated. In depth discussions on the Reynolds number effects are made. For valid model tests of fuel assemblies vibrating in its fundamental natural frequency, reduced frequency (fD/U), and dam ping parameter( $m_{c}$$\delta$$_{c}$ $D_{\rho}$$^2$) are two most important parameters.ers.
