  • All the servers in a traditional server cluster environment are kept On. If the request load reaches to the maximum, we exploit its maximum possible performance, otherwise, we exploit only some portion of maximum possible performance so that the efficiency of server power consumption becomes low. We can improve the efficiency of power consumption by controlling power mode of servers according to load situation, that is, by making On only minimum number of servers needed to handle current load while making Off the remaining servers. In the existing power mode control method, they used a static policy to decide server power mode at a fixed time interval so that it cannot adapt well to the dynamically changing load situation. In order to improve the existing method, we propose a dynamic server power control algorithm. In the proposed method, we keep the history of server power consumption and, based on it, predict whether power consumption increases in the near future. Based on this prediction, we dynamically change the time interval to decide server power mode. We performed experiments with a cluster of 30 PCs. Experimental results show that our proposed method keeps the same performance while reducing 29% of power consumption compared to the existing method. In addition, our proposed method allows to increase the average CPU utilization by 66%.

  • The pitch searching is a vital process in a vocoder. Generally, the method of pitch searching is employed after highlighting the periodicity, where a correlation is identified with the signal by changing the interval of two pulses. When the correlation value reaches the peak, the pitch can be found by the pulse interval because it is the repetition interval with most striking period. However if the identified period happens to be one of half period, double period or triple period, this cannot be considered as the pitch period. Many methods were suggested to solve this problem. An inaccurate pitch could be obtained as well, when there is an interval where signal amplitude is not constant but varies abruptly in the frame. To solve this matter, searching the pitch by dividing a frame into various subframes is adopted, but too much calculation has to be followed while it leads the correct value. This paper suggests an algorithm to resolve these two problems. First, to search the pitch after advance correction of the signal energy level with an estimated overall energy change ratio in the frame before pitch search to reduce half period, double period and triple period is suggested. Second, to vary the number of subframes by predicting the amplitude change rate in the frame by the energy ratio obtained by the above-mentioned method is advised. If these two methods are applied, the pitch searching time can be reduced and the general pitch searching performance can be improved without affecting the sound quality in the synthesized signal.

  • Example based Super Resolution(SR) is using the correspondence between the low and high resolution image from a database. This method uses only one image to estimate a high resolution image and can get the larger image than 2 times. Example based SR is proposed to solve the problem of classical SR. Neighbor embedding(NE) has been inspired by manifold learning method, particularly locally linear embedding. However, the poor generalization of NE decreases the performance of such algorithm. The sizes of local training sets are always too small to improve the performance of NE. We propose the advanced NE baesd on SVR having an excellent generalization ability to solve this problem. Given a low resolution image, we estimate a pixel in its high resolution version by using SVR based NE. Through experimental results, we quantitatively and qualitatively confirm the improved results of the proposed algorithm when comparing with conventional interpolation methods and NE.

  • The flight test operational procedure artifact includes mission planning, execution methods, and safety measures for each step of test progress. As the development of guided missiles has become more advanced and strategic, flight test has become increasingly complex and broadened. Therefore, increased reliability of the flight test operation procedures was required to ensure test safety. Particularly, the design of the flight test operational procedures required verification through M&S to predict and prepare for the uncertainty in a new test. The relevant studies have published the optimal framework development for flight tests and the model-based improvements of flight test processes, but they lacked the specificity to be applied directly to the flight test operational procedures. In addition, the flight test operational procedures, which consist of document bases, have caused problems such as limitations of analysis capabilities, insensitive expressions, and lack of scalability for the behavior and performance analysis of test resources. To improve these problems, this paper proposes how to design operational procedure of guided missile flight test system by applying MBSE(Model-based Systems Engineering). This research has improved reliability by increasing the ability to analyze the behavior and performance of test resources, and increased efficiency with the scalability applicable to multiple flight tests. That can be also used continuously for the guided missile flight tests that will be developed in the future.

  • In this study, improved capacity spectrum method (CSM) is proposed. The method can account for higher mode contribution to the seismic response of MDOF systems. The CSM has been conveniently used for determining maximum roof displacement using both demand spectrum and capacity curve of equivalent SDOF system. Unlike the conventional CSM, the maximum roof displacement is determined without iteration using inelastic displacement ratio and R factor calculated from demand spectrum and capacity curve. Three moment resisting steel frames of 3-, 9- and 20-stories are considered to test the accuracy of the proposed method. Nonlinear response history analysis (NL-RHA) for three frames is also conducted, which is considered as an exact solution. SAC LA 10/50 and 2/50 sets of ground motions are used. Moreover, this study estimates maximum story drift ratios (IDR) using ATC-40 CSM and N2-method and compared with those from the proposed method and NL-RHA. It shows that the proposed CSM estimates the maximum IDR accurately better than the previous methods.

  • The purpose of developing a rainfall-runoff and reservoir model is to provide an analysis tool for hydrological engineers in order to forecast discharge of rivers and to accomplish reservoir operations easily and accurately. In this study, based on the short-term rainfall-runoff storage function model which has gained popularity for real time flood forecast in practical water management affairs, a long-term runoff model was developed for the improvement of the calculation method of effective rainfall and percolation at the infiltration area. Annual discharge was simulated for three dam watersheds(Andong, Hapcheon, Milyang) in Nakdong River basin to analyze the accuracy of the developed model and compare it to SSARR model, which is used as the long-term runoff model in current practical water management affairs. As the result of the comparison of hydrographs, SSARR model showed relatively better results. However, it is possible for the developed model to simulate reliable long-term runoff using relatively little available data and is useful for hydrological engineers in practical affairs.

  • Internet Video Coding (IVC) is a royalty-free codec currently being developed in MPEG. Coding efficiency of IVC codec has been steadily enhanced and it was reported that the performance of Committee Draft (CD) version is comparable to H.264/AVC High Profile (HP) in terms of objective and subjective qualities. In this paper, we present some coding tools that have been proposed for enhancing the coding efficiency of IVC during the developing process in MPEG along with brief overview of IVC codec architecture and coding algorithms. The coding tools include both of normative tools and informative tools such as non-reference P frame coding, DC mode intra prediction, Lagrange multiplier selection, and extension of chroma intra prediction modes. Improvement obtained by each tool is presented in terms of algorithm and coding gain based on the experiments. As a result of the experiment, the coding tools give the average bit saving of 8.8%, 0.4%, 0.4%, and 0.0%, respectively, in the low-delay coding mode.

  • Recently, many deep convolutional neural networks for image super-resolution have been studied. Existing deep learning-based super-resolution algorithms are architecture that up-samples the resolution at the end of the network. The post-upsampling architecture has an inefficient structure at large scaling factor result of predicting a lot of information for mapping from low-resolution to high-resolution at once. In this paper, we propose a single image super-resolution using Channel Attention Residual Dense Block based on an iterative up-down sampling architecture. The proposed algorithm efficiently predicts the mapping relationship between low-resolution and high-resolution, and shows up to 0.14dB performance improvement and enhanced subjective image quality compared to the existing algorithm at large scaling factor result.

  • This paper presents a new method to estimate the pose of a moving object accurately using a monocular camera and a low-end GPS+IMU sensor system. For this goal, we adopted a deep neural network for the semantic segmentation of input images and compared the results with a semantic map of a neighborhood. In this map matching, we use weight tables to deal with label inconsistency effectively. Signals from a low-end GPS+IMU sensor system are used to limit search spaces and minimize the proposed function. For the evaluation, we added noise to the signals from a high-end GPS-IMU system. The results show that the pose can be recovered from the noisy signals. We also show that the proposed method is effective in handling non-open-sky situations.

  • In this paper, the characteristics of the ray tracing method (RTM) based on the cylindrical wave are discussed for the high frequency vibration analysis of two-dimensional structures. A ray tube describing the emanating cylindrical wave is used to derive the governing equation for incident reflected, and transmitted ray tubes which satisfies the condition at the coupled boundary. The suggested ray model is applied to panel array structures, and the predicted results for 2-panel, 3-panel, and 4-panel array structures are compared to those by Statistical energy analysis (SEA) and Wave intensity analysis(WIA). More enhanced prediction was obtained compared to the SEA, and similar prediction performance was observed to the WIA. Additionally, the RTM has a novel feature that it can estimate the spatially smoothed distribution of vibration energy and vibration intensity. It is expected that the present RTM can be used as one of the useful tools for the high frequency vibration analysis of two-dimensional coupled structures.
