Development and Effects Analysis of a Elementary School Scientific Inquiry Learning Module in a View of ESD: Focusing on 'Volcano and Earthquake' Unit (ESD(Education for Sustainable Development)를 적용한 초등학교 과학 탐구 학습 모듈 개발 및 효과분석: '화산과 지진' 단원을 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop an scientific inquiry learning module by applying ESD and to verify its effect so that students could understand sustainable development and geology concepts by reconstructing the contents of the geology related unit. For this purpose, the "Volcanoes and Earthquakes" unit in the 3-4 grade group of the Korea national curriculum was selected and the scientific inquiry learning module was developed. The developed inquiry learning module consisted of one textbook and one teacher 's guidebook, and it was put into one class of elementary school to verify the effect. As a result, the teacher said that it was good to be taught contents of ESD and it was useful because of the concreteness of inquiry activities. The students responded that they were interesting because developed textbook is more often the interesting picture and activity than traditional textbook. And the students responded that 'ESD' has been an opportunity to be interested in science.

A Study on the Christian Learning Environmental Arrangement in Church Educational Space (교회 교육공간에 관한 기독교교육적 환경구성)

  • As an element of education, the educational space cannot be separated from the purpose of education. The place of education is not only the passage to deliver actual curriculum, but also the purpose itself that can be accomplished through educational content. That is because the purpose of education cannot be achieved only with instructors, students, curriculum, and methods, but requires a change in the perception of the educational space that represents the goal and the place where it all can be implemented. Nevertheless, the problem that lies with educational space is easy to be overlooked and it has been rather considered as an issue related to the finances or scale of the church. The church educational space gives birth to faith and growth, where spiritual development and experience may occur. However, the reality follows the drawbacks of conventional school classroom arrangements and structures. In addition, even if the church educational space can be arranged according to the needs of its students, it cannot deviate much from the standard uniform format. In particular, the basic environment of church educational space is similar to that of standard school system in terms of arrangement of furniture such as chairs, desks, and its physical structure. As the school system was originally designed and tailored for the purpose of delivering knowledge and standardization, the space for church education must stay away from it. Humans are born and die in a space, where encounter with God also happens. Also, communication with God causes spacial conversion to humans, changing the place of their visitation. So the church educational space must be more meticulously designed and comprehensive than that of school which pursues physical, educational, psychological, social, and artistic purposes because the church educational space pursues the liturgical elements, as well. Therefore, the Christian learning environmental arrangements must seek liturgical elements, which is the major Christian value, by placing Christian artwork or symbols for church visitors. So in this research, I want to stress the role of Christian educational space for spiritual growth and pursue intrinsic and extrinsic changes in learning environment, leading to a greater awareness of the Christian educational space.

The Effect of Integrated Mind Map Activities on the Creative Thinking Skills of 2nd Year Students in Junior High School (통합형 마인드맵 활동이 중학교 2학년 학생들의 창의적 사고력에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to design a teaching and learning method conductive to the development of creative thinking skills and investigate its effects. It has been developed integrated mind map with feature of visualizing the divergent thinking to the aspects of Science (S), Technology (T) & Engineering (E), Arts (A), Mathematics (M). Integrated mind map can be divided into four types of STEAM type, STEA type, STEM type, STE type depending on the category of key words in the first branch. And Integrated mind map can be divided into three levels of guided, intermediate, open depending on the teacher's guide degree. And also integrated mind map activities were carried out in the form of group, class share as well as individual. This study was implemented during a semester and students in experiment group experienced individual-integrated mind map activity 10 times, group-integrated mind map activity 10 times, class share-integrated mind map activity 3 times. The results indicated that the experimental group presented statistically meaningful improvement in creative thinking skills (p<.05). And there was a statistically meaningful improvement in fluency, flexibility, originality as a sub-category of creative thinking skills(p <.05). Also creative thinking skills are not affected by the level of cognitive, academic performance, gender (p<.05). In conclusion, it was found that 'integrated mind map activity' improved student's creative thinking skills. There was no interaction effect about creative thinking skills between the teaching strategy and cognitive level, achivement, gender of those students.
