  • The purpose of the study was to develop a program based on PCM(Parallel Curriculum Model) model for the gifted students, and investigate the effectiveness of the program with qualitative research methods. This program was designed to encourage the gifted students to explore mathematics that is closely related to the real world. The results of the study revealed that the program based on the PCM model had positive effect on the gifted students emotionally and cognitively. In conclusion, PCM program is considered an appropriate program for the gifted students of elementary school.

  • The average acoustic distribution of American English speakers was statistically compared with the English-speaking patterns of gifted students in a Science Academy in Korea. By analyzing speech recordings, the duration time of which is much longer than in previous studies, this research identified the degree of acoustic proximity between the two parties and the predictability of English academic achievement of gifted high school students. Long-term spectral acoustic power distribution vectors were obtained for 2,048 center frequencies in the range of 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz by applying an long-term average speech spectrum (LTASS) MATLAB code. Three more variables were statistically compared to discover additional indices that can predict future English academic achievement: the receptive vocabulary size test, the cumulative vocabulary scores of English formative assessment, and the English Speaking Proficiency Test scores. Linear regression and correlational analyses between the four variables showed that the receptive vocabulary size test and the low-frequency vocabulary formative assessments which require both lexical and domain-specific science background knowledge are relatively more significant variables than a basic suprasegmental level English fluency in the predictability of gifted students' academic achievement.

  • The purpose of this study was to develope a high school level physics curriculum for the gifted in science. The research method for this study was Delphi Survey, which is appropriate for social agreement of experts in a certain area. For the Delphi survey, 11 experts of gifted education in physics field, who consist of 4 physics professors, 3 physics education professors, and 2 science high school teachers, and 2 experts in other institutes, were sampled intendedly. In first survey, free description questions about objectives, contents, teaching methods, and achievement test methods were asked, and their answers were analyzed by frequency. And then, frequent answers were adopted and elaborated. In second survey, they were asked to write numbers according to priority(degree of agreement) for the adopted and elaborated answers in each area. Finally, by analyzing the results of second survey, the physics curriculum for the gifted was developed.
