  • As interests in 360-degree VR (Virtual Reality) video services enormously grow, compression and streaming technologies for VR video data have been rapidly developed. Quality Emphasized Region (QER) based streaming scheme has been developed as a kind of viewport-adaptive 360-degree video streaming technology for maintaining immersive experience and reducing bandwidth waste. For selecting a QER corresponding to the user's gaze coordinate, QER-based streaming scheme requires the calculation of Quality Emphasis Center (QEC) distance and signaling message delivery for requesting QER switching. QEC distance calculations require high computational complexity because of repeated calculations as many times as the number of QERs. Furthermore, the signaling message interval results in a trade-off relationship between efficient bandwidth usage and flexible QER switching. In this paper, we propose an improved QER selection algorithm based on MMT protocol to solve this problem. The proposed algorithm could achieve computational complexity reduction by using preprocessed QER_ID_MAP. Also, flexible QER switching could be achieved, as well as efficient bandwidth utilization by an adaptive adjustment of the signaling interval.

  • The breast cancer has the highest occurrence rate among the female cancers, and as the living style changes, the occurrence is increasing gradually. For the breast cancer test among women, who comprises up to 50% of the total population, the mammography is mainly used as the screening test, and the accuracy control is the most important aspect of the testing. Therefore this research divided the northern part of Kyeongsangbuk-do into 4 regions and investigated the accordance ratio of examination field and light examination field, the total focus using the optical density and compression rate, and the overall maintenance of mammography within the regions. The equipments of 11 hospitals were investigated, and the 7 hospitals passed the standard level of the accordance ratio of examination field. 6 hospitals passed the standard optical density, and 7 hospitals had the passing performance in the compression rate. Fibers, group of specks, and masses within the Mammographic Accreditation Phantom scored 10, being within the standard range. However, only 3 hospitals were equipped with private development processor and illumination. The result reflects the fact that the image quality of breast is not correctly being maintained. Moreover, only 27.27% satisfied all the three categories of compression fitting, accordance ratio of examination field, and phantom image evaluation at the same time. The accuracy control must be maintained more precisely for the accurate diagnosis of breast cancer.

  • Recently, although the requirement of quality of VOD content has been transferred upto the class of HD, conventional management systems characterized by OS dependency are truly limited in quality of video image, stability, and compatibility of network environments. In addition most of the content management systems realize very limited capabilities for the real affairs of content management and distribution services in such an OS dependent environment. In this paper, we propose a new scheme of HD-Class VOD Content Management System to solve these problems. We design and implement the proposed system based on open sources by using H.264 video compression method. The proposed system offers high quality content management method based on opened systems and independent on-line distribution method so that it can be realized as an integrated management scheme for VOD contents. Moreover, our system solves the problems of occasional cutting-down video, small screen, and poor image quality that exist in the conventional wmv-type CMS. According to the result of performance evaluation, our system maintains sufficient performance and tolerence for the case of large scale HD content operations or fabrications. We expect that the proposed integrated DB scheme will especially be effective when the content management applications are changed from Internet Web environments to mobile terminal environments.

  • The aim of this study was to achieve optimal portal phase while reducing contrast medium by applying weight-based dose protocol compared to standard fixed dose protocol to performing of pediatric abdominal CT examination. Discovery 750HD (General Electric Medical Systems, Milwaukee, USA) was used, and a total of 167 children consisting of 85 men and 82 women under the age of 18 were studied. The group in which the 300 mgI/ml(Xenetix, Guerbet, France) contrast medium was fixedly injected at twice body weight and the group injected with physiological saline while gradually decreasing the injection amount by 10% while applying the weight-based protocol were distinguished. Also, the CT number and SNR of abdominal organs were compared and evaluated while changing the scan delay time. Subjective image quality of enhancement and beam-hardening artifacts of around the heart was assessed with five-point criterion. The group adapted weight-based protocol with 20% reduction in contrast medium was most similar in contrast enhancement in the group with fixed injection at twice body weight. Furthermore, the group with a delay time of 20% had the highest contrast enhancement effect, and the difference in CT attenuation coefficient from the group scanned immediately after injection of the contrast media. Therefore, the appropriate delay time after injection of the contrast agent increased the contrast enhancement of the parenchymal organ. In addition, the weight-based injection protocol with normal saline reduced artifacts around the heart, and the effect of contrast enhancement could be maintained. In conclusion, it is possible to reduce dosage of contrast media through the application of weight-based injection protocols and appropriate latency, and to characterize optimal portal phase imaging on pediatric abdominal CT.

  • In recent years, Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) have achieved outstanding performance in the fields of computer vision such as image classification, object detection, visual quality enhancement, etc. However, as huge amount of computation and memory are required in CNN models, there is a limitation in the application of CNN to low-power environments such as mobile or IoT devices. Therefore, the need for neural network compression to reduce the model size while keeping the task performance as much as possible has been emerging. In this paper, we propose a method to compress CNN models by combining matrix decomposition methods of LR (Low-Rank) approximation and CP (Canonical Polyadic) decomposition. Unlike conventional methods that apply one matrix decomposition method to CNN models, we selectively apply two decomposition methods depending on the layer types of CNN to enhance the compression performance. To evaluate the performance of the proposed method, we use the models for image classification such as VGG-16, RestNet50 and MobileNetV2 models. The experimental results show that the proposed method gives improved classification performance at the same range of 1.5 to 12.1 times compression ratio than the existing method that applies only the LR approximation.

  • The necessity of transmitting video data over a narrow-bandwidth exists steadily despite that video service over broadband is common. In this paper, we propose a scalable video coding framework for low-resolution video transmission over a very narrow-bandwidth network by super-resolution of decoded frames of a base layer using a convolutional neural network based super resolution technique to improve the coding efficiency by using it as a prediction for the enhancement layer. In contrast to the conventional scalable high efficiency video coding (SHVC) standard, in which upscaling is performed with a fixed filter, we propose a scalable video coding framework that replaces the existing fixed up-scaling filter by using the trained convolutional neural network for super-resolution. For this, we proposed a neural network structure with skip connection and residual learning technique and trained it according to the application scenario of the video coding framework. For the application scenario where a video whose resolution is $352{\times}288$ and frame rate is 8fps is encoded at 110kbps, the quality of the proposed scalable video coding framework is higher than that of the SHVC framework.

  • The purpose of this study is to consider usefulness of using AEC mode and importance of patient center location in L-spine lateral radiography by comparing dose and image quality according to the change of patient center location with using AEC mode or not. In this study, guide wire is attached to the human body phantom's lumbar spine and the lead ruler is attached to the bottom of the wall detector to find out center location in detector. ESD, mAs, and EI were selected as dose factors, and image quality was compared through SNR. With the lumbar spine located center of the detector, dose factors and image quality were compared according to using AEC mode or not. Afterwards, phantom moved 4 cm and 8 cm back and forth and compared dose factors and image quality. The exposure parameters were 85 kVp, 320 mA, x-ray field size 10×17 inch, and the distance between the center X-ray and the detector was fixed at 100 cm. The center X-ray was perpendicular to the fourth lumbar spine and the only bottom AEC chamber was used. All data were analyzed by independent t-test and ANOVA. As a result of this study, with AEC when the center is matched, ESD was 1.31±0.01 mGy, without AEC was 2.12±0.01 mGy. SNR was shown to be 22.81±1.83, and 23.44±1.87 respectively. When the phantom's center moves 4 cm, 8 cm forward, and 4 cm, 8 cm backward, ESD were 1.09±0.004 mGy, 0.32±0.003 mGy, 1.19±0.017 mGy, 1.11±0.006 mGy respectively, SNR were 18.29±0.60 dB, 11.11±0.22 dB, 18.98±0.80 dB, 17.71±0.82 dB. Using AEC in L-spine lateral radiography reduced ESD by 38%, EI by 35%, and mAs by 38%, without any difference in SNR(p<0.05). When the phantom's center moves 4 cm, 8 cm forward, and 4 cm, 8 cm backward, ESD was decreasing each 16%, 75%, 9%, 15%, EI was decreasing each 14%, 77%, 15%, 20%, mAs was decreasing each 15% 75% 9%, 15%. SNR was decreasing each 19%, 51%, 17%, 22%.

  • X-ray of up to 9MeV are used for container inspection. X-ray intensity must be maintained stably regardless of changes in time. If dose is not constant, it may affect the image quality, and as a result, may affect the inspection of abnormal cargo. Therefore, to acquire high-quality images, continuous dose monitoring is required. In this study, the ion-chamber based device was developed for monitoring the dose change in high-energy x-ray. And to estimate the performance of signal-processing device change according to the environmental change, the output changing due to the change of temperature and humidity was observed. In addition, verification of the device was performed by measuring the output change. As a result of the measurement, there was no significant difference in performance due to changes in temperature and humidity, and the change in output according to the change in exposure was linear. Therefore, it was found that the developed device is suitable for the dose monitoring of high-energy x-ray.

  • The purpose of this paper is to present and evaluate the performance of a method for controlling the dose for optimal image acquisition while minimizing patient exposure by applying a small-sized Photomultiplier(SiPM) sensor inside a portable detector. Portable detectors have the advantage of being able to quickly access the patient's location for rapid diagnosis, but this mobility comes with the challenge of dose control. This paper presents a method to identify the dose that can have the DQE and optimal image quality of the detector through image evaluation based on IEC62220-1-1, an international standard for X-ray imaging devices, and to identify the optimal dose by matching the ADU of the image and the output of the SiPM Sensor. The Skull AP image was acquired by implementing the detector manufacturer's reference dose. The optimal dose was 342.8 µGy, and the optimal controlled dose was 148.3 µGy, which is 57 % of the manufacturer's reference dose. The Chest AP image was 81.9 µGy and the optimal controlled dose was 27.9 µGy, which is a high dose reduction effect of 66 %. In addition, the two images were analyzed by five radiologists and found to have no clinically significant difference in anatomical delineation.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the radiation dose for clinical PET/CT protocols in clinical environments using Alderson phantom and TLDs. Radiation doses were evaluated for both Philips GEMINI 16 slice PET/CT system and GE DSTe 16 slice PET/CT system. Specific organ doses with $^{137}Cs$ transmission scan, high quality CT scan and topogram in philips GEMINI PET/CT system were measured. Specific organ doses with CT scan for attenuation map, CT scan for diagnosis and topogram in GE DSTe PET/CT system were also measured. The organs were selected based on ICRP60 recommendation. The TLDs used for measurements were selected for within an accuracy of ${\pm}5%$ and calibrated in 10 MV X-ray radiation field. The effective doses for $^{137}Cs$ transmission scan, high qualify scan, and topogram in Philips GEMINI PET/CT system were $0.14{\pm}0.950,\;29.49{\pm}1.508\;and\;0.72{\pm}0.032mSv$ respectively. The effective doses for CT scan to make attenuation map, CT scan to diagnose and topogram in GE DSTe PET/CT system were $20.06{\pm}1.003,\;24.83{\pm}0.805\;and\;0.27{\pm}0.008mSv$ respectively. We evaluated the total effective dose by adding effective dose for PET Image. The total PET/CT doses for Philips GEMINI PET/CT (Topogram+$^{137}Cs$ transmission scan+PET, Topogram+high qualify CT+PET) and GE DSTe PET/CT (Topogram +CT for attenuation map+ PET, Topogram+diagnostic CT+ PET) are $7.65{\pm}0.951,\;37.00{\pm}1.508,\;27.12{\pm}1.003\;and\;31.89{\pm}0.805mSv$ respectively. Further study may be needed to be peformed to find optimal PET/CT acquisition protocols for reducing the patient exposure with good image qualify.
