An effective license plate recognition system using deep learning technology (딥러닝 기술을 활용한 효과적인 차량 번호판 인식 시스템)

  • 최근의 차량 주차관리 시설, 출입통제가 필요한 장소 그리고 도로 방범카메라를 통한 단속 등 다양한 곳에서 차량 번호판 자동 인식 기술들이 활용되고 있다. 하지만 현재 사용되고 있는 LPR(License Plate Recognition) 시스템에는 많은 장비와 비용이 들어간다는 큰 단점이 존재한다. 본 논문에서는 하나의 컴퓨터와 최소의 카메라를 가지고 할 수 있는 기계학습을 통한 영상처리를 제안하려 한다. 먼저 딥러닝 프레임워크 중 하나인 YOLO(You Only Look Once) [4]를 활용하여 자동차의 번호판 부분의 영역을 검출하고 Grayscale를 통해 햇빛 또는 조명 등의 영향을 감소시켜 번호판의 특징을 보존시킨다. 전처리 작업이 끝난 후 번호판에서 숫자를 인식 하는 부분에서는 k-NN(k-Nearest Neighbor) 알고리즘을 사용하였으며 한글 문자 인식부분은 Template Matching을 이용하였다. 제안한 알고리즘을 사용하여 기존 LPR 시스템에서 획득한 차량이미지를 대상으로 시뮬레이션 한 결과 좋은 결과를 얻을 수 있어 향후 연구 방향의 시스템 확장성의 가능성을 발견할 수 있었다.

Design and Implementation of Augmented Reality based Food Menu Guidance System (증강현실 기반의 음식 메뉴 안내 시스템 설계 및 구현)

  • Recently, as competition in the food industry intensifies, restaurants offering unusual foods are increasing. However, the information provided by the menu is limited to the ingredients and prices of the foods, which does not help the guests choose the menu. In order to solve this problem, this paper proposes a food menu guidance system using augmented reality technology. The proposed system combines augmented reality technology and video content to provide information about food on the menu as a video. Therefore, it provides more realistic and vibrant images than the existing menu board provides food information in a simple image format. In addition, the proposed system is expected to be applied to tourist attractions, museums and galleries as a new type of guidance system beyond the limitations of text and image-oriented brochures.

  • Ultrasonic C-scan technique is one of very popular techniques being used for detection of flaws in polymer matrix composite(PMC). However, the application of this technique is very limited for evaluation of defects in PMC fabricated by the automated fiber placement process. The purpose of this study is to develop a novel ultrasonic hybrid system based on nondestructive and non-contact ultrasonic techniques for evaluation of delamination in carbon/epoxy and carbon/PPS composite laminates. It was shown that the newly developed ultrasonic hybrid system based on dual air-coupled pitch-catch technique with ultrasonic scattering reflection concept could provide excellent image with higher resolution of delamination in PMC compared with the conventional pitch-catch method. It is expected that this ultrasonic hybrid technique can be applied for on-line inspection of flaws in PMC during the fabrication process.

  • In this paper, we presented Under Vehicle Inspection System by comparing two image signals. Two signals are generated by license plate number and under-vehicle pattern recognition. The test shows reliable precision within real-time of 2.8sec, which can be applicable commercially. In the future, more research will be conducted to enhance the precision by automatic image balance in many challenging situations.

선박의 원격검사를 위한 아날로그 게지이의 정량화에 관한 기초연구

  • 이 연구는 원격검사의 한 방법으로서, 특히 자율운항 선박에서 컴퓨터비전을 이용한 영상처리를 통한 원격 검사방법에 관한 것이다. 자율운항 선박은 자율화의 정도에 따라 다르지만, 선원이 승선하지 않거나 최소한의 선원만 승선하는 선박이므로 선박의 검사방법에 변화가 필요한 실정이다. 따라서 컴퓨터비전을 이용한 영상처리에 대한 이론적 배경을 바탕으로 원격검사 항목 중에서 아날로그 게이지의 정량화에 필요한 영상의 전처리 방법에 관한 연구이다. 아날로그 게이지의 정량화를 위해서 사용한 방법은 흑백처리, 가우시안필터, 임계화처리, 모폴로지 연산이다. 이 연구를 통하여 영상의 전처리 결과 배경과 객체를 비교적 명확하게 분류할 수 있었으며, 영상처리 과정 중 추가로 발생한 잡음을 효과적으로 제거할 수 있었다. 이를 통하여 영상에서 주된 객체인 지시바늘과 눈금판의 숫자를 인식에 필요한 이미지 전처리 방법을 제시하였으며, 나아가 컴퓨터 비전을 이용한 원격검사 방법은 아날로그 게이지뿐만 아니라 비상차단밸브, 통풍폐쇄장치, 고정식 소화장치 등 여러 방면에서 사용될 것이라 기대한다.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient car management system based on object-oriented modeling using car number recognition and smart phone. The proposed system perceives car number of repair vehicle after recognizing the licence plate using an IP camera in real time. And then, existing repair history information of the recognized car is be displayed in DID. In addition, maintenance process is shooting video while auto maintenance mechanic repairs car through IP-camera. That will be provide customer car identification and repairs history management function by sending key frames extracted from recorded video automatically. We provide user graphic interface based on web and mobile for your convenience. The module design of the proposed system apply software design modeling based on granular object-oriented considering reuse and extensibility after implementation. Car repairs center and maintenance companies can improve business efficiency, as well as the requested vehicle repair can increase customer confidence.

  • In this paper, we proposed a vehicle recognition and electronic toll collection system with detection and classification of vehicle identification mark and emblem as well as recognition of vehicle license plate to unman toll fee collection system or incoming/outcoming vehicles to an institution. In the proposed algorithm, we first process pre-processing step such as noise reduction and thinning from the rear side input image of vehicle and detect vehicle mark, emblem and license plate region using intensity variation informations, template masking and labeling operation. And then, we classify the detected vehicle features regions into vehicle mark and emblem as well as recognize characters and numbers of vehicle license plate using hybrid and seven segment pattern vector. To show the efficiency of the proposed algorithm, we tested it on real vehicle images of implemented vehicle recognition system in highway toll gate and found that the proposed method shows good feature detection/classification performance regardless of irregular environment conditions as well as noise, size, and location of vehicles. And also, the proposed algorithm may be utilized for catching criminal vehicles, unmanned toll collection system, and unmanned checking incoming/outcoming vehicles to an institution.

Design of Improved UI of Automatic Parking Management System using License Plate Recognition (번호판 인식을 통한 자동 주차관리 시스템의 개선된 UI 설계)

  • Recently, due to advances in both imaging technology and ICT, various types of image processing services became available and the application services of these two technologies are diversifying. Recognition of vehicle license plates is used in places where vehicle information is needed such as in parking management. However, existing systems have economic disadvantages like issuing parking tickets and attaching unnecessary equipment. In order to solve these problems, we designed and implemented automatic parking management system through recognition of vehicle license plates by using emguCV that is based on OpenCV. Additionally, we designed improved UI to handle the entire parking management situation which include information such as details of each parking vehicle, parking time and remaining parking spaces without screen movement. This improved UI is implemented with the use of WPF which is the latest technology in user program development. The emguCV used in this paper showed the most optimized performance in Intel based environment. With it, we obtained the result of within 0.5 seconds of recognition processing time and over 90% of recognition rate. Through improved UI, the manager could both simply and intuitively manage the entire system.

  • This paper proposes a system detecting the area of traffic sign, which uses color rate as the information of colors, and corner point and distance rate as the information of morphology. In this system, a candidate area is extracted by performing dilation operation on the binary image made by the color rate of R, G, B components and by detecting corner point and center point through mask. The area of traffic sign with varied shapes is extracted by calculating the distance rate from center point, which is the information of morphology. The results of this experiment demonstrate that in this system which is invariable regardless of its size and location, it is possible to extract the exact area from varied traffic signs such as the shapes of triangle, circle, inverse triangle, and square as well as from the images at both day and night when brightness value is greatly different. Moreover, it demonstrates great accuracy and speed in processing.
