Research for Multi-channel audio service system on Satellite DMB environment (위성 DMB 환경에서의 멀티채널 오디오 서비스 시스템 연구)

  • 본 논문에서는 위성 DMB 환경에서 멀티채널 오디오 서비스를 제공할 수 있는 시스템을 제안한다. 위성 DMB 서비스는 2005 년부터 상용서비스를 시작한 이동멀티미디어방송 서비스로서, QVGA 급의 영상과 FM 음질의 오디오 서비스를 제공한다. 본 연구에서는 기존의 위성 DMB 시스템과 호환성을 유지하면서, 적은 비트율의 데이터를 추가하여 멀티채널 오디오 서비스를 제공하는 시스템에 대한 연구를 수행하였다. 이를 위하여 기존의 스테레오 오디오 시스템과 호환성을 가지면서도 적은 비트율의 데이터 추가만으로 멀티채널 오디오 신호의 재현이 가능한 멀티채널 오디오 부호화 기술을 적용하였고, 기존 위성 DMB 단말의 동작에 영향을 주지 않으면서, 멀티채널 오디오 서비스가 제공되는 것을 식별할 수 있도록 하는 시그널링 방법을 개발하여 적용하였다. 연구 결과의 검증을 위하여 위성 DMB 멀티채널 오디오 부호화기 및 단말을 개발하여 방송 실험을 수행하였고, 이를 통하여 제안한 방법으로 위성 DMB 환경에서 멀티채널 오디오 서비스를 효율적으로 제공할 수 있음을 증명하였다.

  • This paper proposes a quality measurement model for video phone service over IP environment. Proposed model enhances conventional E-Model by using quality analysis and this model is suitable for ubiquitous environment. This research measures video phone quality by applying bust packet loss and recency effect. It uses delay and recency effect for compensating actual quality and recognized quality of user using NR and UR factor. Simulation results show that this model can provide more precise results than conventional model by considering recency effect of video phone service quality measurement model.

  • Variable length code is an integral component of many international standards on image and video compression currently. Context-based Adaptive Variable Length Coding(CAVLC) is adopted by the emerging JVT(also called H.264, and AVC in MPEG-4). In this paper, we design an architecture for CAVLC encoder, including a coeff_token encoder, level encoder, total_zeros encoder and run_before encoder. The designed CAVLC encoder can encode one syntax element in one clock cycle. As a result of implementation by Vertex-1000e of Xilinx, its operation frequency is 68MHz. Therefore, it is very suitable for video applications that require high throughput.

  • We propose a new image coding method which takes into account both statistical redundancy and perceptual irrelevancy of the DCT coefficients so as to provide a high quality of the reconstructed images with a reduced transmission bit rate First, a block of DCT coefficients are decomposed into 16 subvectors so as for a subvector to convey key information about one of the low-pass or the dirctional filtered images. Then, the most significant subvector is selected as the principal edge of the block and then vector quantized. After that, the residuals of the block are computed and then sequentially quantized through aforementioned procedure until the quantization distortion is smaller than the target distortion. The proposed scheme is good at encoding images with a variety of transmission bit rates, especially at very low bit rate coding. In addition, it is another benifit of the proposed scheme that an image can be quantized with a wide range of the transmission bit rates by simply adapting the stopping criterion of the sequential vector quantizer according to the target distortion of the reconstructed image.

  • In this paepr, a new image segmentation method reducing efficiently contour information causing bottleneck problem at segmentatio-based very low bit rate codingis proposed, while preserving objective and subjective quality. It consists of 4-level hierarchical image segmentation based on mathematical morphology and 1-leve region merging structure using contast of two adjacent regions. For two adjacent region pairs at the fourth level included in each region of the thid level, contrast is calculated. Among the pairs of two adjacent regions with less value than threshold, two adjacent regions having the minimum contrast are merged first. After region merging, texture of the merged region is updated. The procedure is performed recursively for all the adjacent region pairs at the fourth level included in each region of the third level. Compared with the previous method, the objective and subjective image qualities are similar. But it reduces 46.65% texture information on the average by decreasing total region number to be tansmitted. Specially, it shows reduction of the 23.95% contour information of the average. Thus, it can improve efficiently the bottleneck problem at segementation-based very low bit rate coding.

  • The current paper presents an effective deblocking algorithm for block-based coded images using singularity detection in Mallat wavelet transform. In block-based coded images. The local maxima of the wavelet transform modulus detect all singularities, including blocking artifacts, from multiscale edges. Accordingly, the current study discriminates between blocking artifacts and edges by estimating the Lipschitz regularity of the local maxima and removing the wavelet transform modulus of blocking artifacts. Experimental results showed that the performance of the proposed algorithm was objectively and subjectively superior.

Fast Transcoding from H.264 to MPEG-4 (H.264에서 MPEG-4로 빠른 트랜스코딩)

  • This paper proposed two transcodiing methods, which maintain the same spatio-temporal resolution and reduce a spatial resolution, to convert a H.264 video bitstream into an MPEG-4 video bitstream. When the H.264 video bitstream is transformed into the MPEG-4 video bitstream, the conversions between H.264 block types and MPEG-4 block types are performed by minimizing distortion and the ${\times}4$ block-based motion vector mapping is performed. The proposed two transcoding methods run 4.14~5.1 times as fast as the cascaded transcoding methods in MPEG-4 encoder side, while the PSNR (peak-signal-to ratio) is slightly degrade with maximum 0.3dB.

  • 지상파 방송(DMB: Digital Multimedia Broadcasting)은 음성, 영상, 데이터와 같은 다양한 멀티미디어 신호를 디지털 방식으로 변조하여 이동 중에 방송을 청취할 수 있는 차세대 디지털방송 서비스이다. 그러나 지상파 DMB 전송 고도화망에서는 계층 변조(Hierarchical Modulation)전송 기법을 통하여 추가의 전송대역폭을 확보할 수 있다. 또한 스케일러블 비디오 코딩(Scalable Video Coding)부호화 방식을 이용하여 고전송효율/고품질의 이동 멀티미디어 방송서비스를 제공할 수 있는 고품질 AT(Advanced Terrestrial)-DMB 시스템이 가능하다. 이러한 고품질 AT-DMB의 개발에 있어서 여러 방식들이 제시됨에 따라 시뮬레이터를 통한 다중화 시스템의 분석이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 고품질 AT-DMB가 가능한 스케일러블 비디오 방식을 JSVM8.8을 사용하여 구현하였으며, 다중화 시스템의 실험을 하였다. 또한 시뮬레이터를 통하여 복호된 계층 간의 화질 차이와 엔지니어를 위해 비트스트림의 분석화면 및 PSNR을 제공 하였다.

Design of the ICMEP Algorithm for the Highly Efficient Entropy Encoding (고효율 엔트로피 부호화를 위한 ICMEP 알고리즘 설계)

  • The channel transmission ratio is speeded up by the combination of the Huffman algorithm, the model scheme of the lossy transform having minimum average code lengths for the image information and good instantaneous decoding capability, with the Lempel-Ziv algorithm showing the fast processing performance during the compression process. In order to increase the processing speed during the compression process, ICMEP algorithm is proposed and the entropy encoder of HDTV is designed and inspected. The ICMEP entropy encoder have been designed by choosing the top-down method and consisted of the source codes and the test benches by the behavior expression with VHDL. As a simulation results, implemented ICMEP entropy encoder confirmed that whole system efficiency by memory saturation prevention and compressibility increase improves.

  • This paper presents improvement of compression rate for SPIHT algorithm based on wavelet compression through redundancy bit removing. Proposed SPIHT algorithm uses a method to select of optimized threshold from feature of wavelet transform coefficients and removes sign bit only if coefficient is LL area. Finally Proposed SPIHT algorithm applies to Huffman coding. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm achieves more improvement bit rate and more fast progressive transmission with low bit rate.
