The present study develops a numerical model based on the computational fluid dynamics technique to analyse the thermal flow characteristics of large scale fire calorimeter and examine the characteristics of primary parameters affecting on the uncertainty of heat release rate measurement. ANSYS CFX version 12.1 which is a commercial CFD package is used to solve the governing equations of the thermal flow field and the eddy dissipation combustion model and P-1 radiation model are applied to simulate the fire driven flow. The numerical results shows that the horizontal duct system with $90^{\circ}$ bend duct was shown relatively high deviated asymmetric flow profiles at the sampling location and the deviation of the velocity field was higher than that of the temperature and species quantities. The present study shows that the computational model can be applicable to optimize the design process and operating condition of the large scale fire calorimeter based on the understanding of the detail flow field.

The object of watermarking is to prevent from copying and distributing without the copyright or right of ownership. In case of using watermark as an image data we can detect watermark whether an original image exists or not. In this paper, we proposed that an image data is used for watermark and the watermark is detected without an original image. After the original image is transformed with DWT and the watermark is transformed with DCT, they are transformed with binary number. We calculate an optimal bit position for concealing watermark of an original binary image and insert the watermark and determine the best position for robustness against JPEG compression, filtering, and resampling attacks within inserted watermark image. In this paper, we are able to confirm the right of copyright and ownership easily while using invisible watermark and also we can detect a watermark without an original image.

The thermal balance test in vacuum chamber for satellite structures is an essential step in the process of satellite development. However, it is technically and economically difficult to fully replicate the space environment by using the vacuum chamber. To overcome these limitations, the thermal analysis through a computer simulation technique has been conducted. The CFRP composite material has attracted attention as satellite structures since it has advantages of excellent mechanical properties and light weight. However, the nonuniform nature of the thermal conductivity of the CFRP structure should be noted at the step of thermal analysis of the satellite. Two different approaches are studied for the thermal analyses; a detailed numerical modeling and a simplified model expressed by an effective thermal conductivity. In this paper, the effective thermal conductivities of the CFRP composite structures are extracted from the detailed numerical results to provide a practical thermal design data for the satellite fabricated with the CFRP composite structure. Calculation results of the surface temperature and the thermal conductivities along x, y, z directions show fairly good agreements between the detailed modeling and the simplified model for all the cases studied here.

In this study, a numerical simulation was developed which was capable of predicting the characteristics of NO formation in pilot scale combustor adopting the air-staged burner flame. The numerical calculation was constructed by means of establishing the mathematical models fur turbulence, turbulent combustion, radiation and turbulent nitric oxide chemistry. Turbulence was solved with standard k-$\xi$ model and the turbulent combustion model was incorporated using a two step reaction scheme together with an eddy dissipation model. The radiative transfer equation was calculated by means of the discrete ordinates method with the weighted sum of gray gases model for CO$_2$and H$_2$O. In the NO chemistry model, the chemical reaction rates for thermal and prompt NO were statistically averaged using the $\beta$ probability density function. The results were validated by comparison with measurements. For the experiment, a 0.2 MW pilot multi-air staged burner has been designed and fabricated. Only when the radiation was taken into account, the predicted gas temperature was in good agreement with the experimental one, which meant that the inclusion of radiation was indispensable for modeling multi-air staged gas flame. This was also true of the prediction of the NO formation, since it heavily depended on temperature. Subsequently, it was found that the multi-air staged combustion technique might be used as a practical tool in reducing the NO formation by controlling the peak flame temperature.

In general existing air conditioning devices, which are carried out by convection heat transfer, are very popular compared with the radiation type air conditioning devices. But perconal convection tpe air conditioning units are unuseful air conditioning type because it handles amount of surrounded air to meet the temperature and humidity. In this view, this study is intended to develope personal dir conditioning units using a radiation type radiator. Liquid Droplet Radiator(L.P.R.) radiates the energy by means of thermal radiation. Radiative energy from L.P.R. is the infrared rays which heat the objects without lose of energy. It is a desirable heating method for the local area within the large room. In this study, the analysis uses the Monte Carlo methd to predict the temperature distribution in the droplet sheet and the net heat flux from the L.D.R.. And for this study and experiment was carried out to analyse the radiative and convective heat transfer characteristics in the L.D.R.. And the experiment was investigated the effects of inlet temperature, feed rate, optical thickness and droplet diameter on heat transfer characteristics of L.D.R.. The obtained results from the numerical and experimental studies of L.D.R. were as follows ; (1) The heat flux of L.D.R. was effected by extinction coefficient of droplet sheet, optical thickness and droplet temperature, surface area and emissivity of the droplet. And it was increased with the temperature, feed rate and optical thickness, on the other hand decreased with increasing of droplet diameter. (2) The experimental results for heat flux was ecalucted below 20% than that of the numerical solution by Monte Carlo method, but the tendency of the variation shows relatively good agreement.

This paper presents 3D simulation by STAR-CCM+ for lean premixed combustion in a stationary gas turbine combustor with separate pilot and main nozzles. The constant for the source term in the flame area density transport equation was modified to account for a low global equivalence ratio and validated against measurement data. A Partially-premixed Coherent Flame Model(PCFM) involves propagation of a laminar premixed flame with the predicted flame surface density and equilibrium assumption in the burned gas with spatial inhomogeneity. The conditions for cooling by radiation and convection are considered for accurate determination of the heat flux on the wall. A parametric study is of the pilot-fuel-to-total-fuel-ratio is carried out. A chemical reactor network (CRN) was constructed on the basis of the 3D simulation results and compared against measurements of NOx.

A medium-scale helium loop that can simulate a VHTR (very-high-temperature reactor) is now under construction at the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute. The heaters of the test helium loop electrically heat helium fluid up to $950^{\circ}C$ at pressures of 1 to 9 MPa. To optimize the design specifications of the experimental helium loop, the conjugate heat transfer in the high-temperature helium heater was analyzed by performing a CFD simulation. The analysis results indicate that the maximum temperature does not exceed the allowable limit. It is confirmed that the thermal characteristics of the loop with the given geometry satisfy the design requirements.

The detailed chemistry with reaction mechanism of GRI 2.11, which consists of 49 species and 279 elementary reactions, have been numerically conducted to investigate the flame structure and NO emission characteristics in a non-premixed counterflow flame of blended fuel of $H_2/CO_2/Ar$. The combination of $H_2,\;CO_2$, and Ar as fuel is selected to clearly display the contribution of hydrocarbon products to flame structure and NO emission characteristics due to the breakdown of $CO_2$. Radiative heat loss term is involved to correctly describe the flame dynamics especially at low strain rates. All mechanisms including thermal, $NO_2,\;N_2O$, and Fenimore are also taken into account to separately evaluate the effects of $CO_2$ addition on NO emission characteristics. The increase of added $CO_2$ quantity causes flame temperature to fall since at high strain rates diluent effect is prevailing and at low strain rates the breakdown of $CO_2$ produces relatively populous hydrocarbon products and thus the existence of hydrocarbon products inhibits chain branching. It is also found that the ratio of the contribution by Fenimore mechanism to that by thermal mechanism in the total mole production rate becomes much larger with increase in the $CO_2$ quantity and strain rate, even though the absolute quantity of NO production is deceased. Consequently, as strain rate and $CO_2$ quantity increase, NO production by Fenimore mechanism is remarkably augmented.
The heat transfer characteristics of solar tower receivers are experimentally investigated with receiver shapes. Generally, these become different according to the shapes and materials of the volumetric air receiver. In order to study these effects, the apparatus adopting laminated mesh and honeycombs as the volumetric air receiver is proposed. The receiver consists of laminated mesh (diameter; 100 mm, thickness; 1 mm), honeycombs (diameter; 100 mm, thickness; 30 mm) inserted into ceramic tube (inside diameter; 100 mm, outside diameter; 120 mm, length: 1000 mm). To apply heat to the receiver, an electric heater is used. To find out the heat transfer characteristics of the laminated mesh, the air temperatures are obtained by installing 3 thermocouples on each layer, dividing ceramic tube into 4 layers. Also, a radiative shield is installed to measure the only air temperature. The data for laminated mesh and honeycomb thickness of 30, 60, 90 mm are obtained. The results show that the temperature of layer 3 is higher than those of layer 2 and layer 1.
Because the satellite imagery can detect the radiative heat from the surface using the thermal IR (TIR) channel, there have been many efforts to verify the relationship between the land surface temperature (LST) and urban heat island. However, the relationship between geomorphological characteristics like surface aspects and LST is relatively less studied. Therefore, the geomorphological elements, for example, surface aspects and surface slopes, are considered to evaluate their effects on the change of the surface temperature distribution using the Landsat 7 ETM+ TIR channel and the possibility of the image to detect anthropogenic heat from the surface. We found that the surface aspect is ignorable but the surface slope with the sun elevation influences on the surface temperature distribution. Also, the radiative heat from the surface to the atmosphere could not be accurately recorded by the satellite image due to the surface slope but the slope correction process used in this study could correct the surface temperature under slope condition and the slope correction, in fact, was not influenced on the average temperature of the surface. The possibility of the anthropogenic heat detection from the surface from the satellite imagery was verified as well.
