Development of Hybrid 3D Broadcast platform Using MMT and MPEG-2 TS (MMT와 MPEG-2 TS 융합형 Hybrid 3D 방송 플랫폼 개발 Part 2 : 하이브리드 콘텐츠 플레이어 파트)

  • 현 3D 실험 방송은 좌영상과 우영상의 듀얼스트림을 전송하는 서비스 호환 방식으로 제공되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 3D 실험방송에서 발생하는 제한된 대역폭에 따른 화질의 저하를 해결하는 방법을 제안하였다. MPEG-2 TS 와 MMT 의 GFD Mode 를 사용하여 상기 두 영상을 지상파와 IP 망으로 전송 받아 화질의 열화없이 안정적으로 제공할 수 있는 Hybrid Contents Player 를 개발 하였다. 제안된 시스템은 MMTP Packets 을 우 영상, TS file 을 좌 영상으로 하여 두 영상의 동기화를 통해 고화질의 스테레오스코픽 영상을 구성한다. 이를 위해 본문에서는 MPEG-2 TS 와 MMT 의 GFD mode 의 파일에 대해 분석하고, 동기화 방법에 대해 설명하였으며 실험을 통해 사용자가 3D 시청을 원할 때 스테레오스코픽 영상이 재생되는 Hybrid Contents Player 를 검증하였다.

Depth From Defocus using Wavelet Transform (웨이블릿 변환을 이용한 Depth From Defocus)

  • In this paper, a new method for obtaining three-dimensional shape of an object by measuring relative blur between images using wavelet analysis has been described. Most of the previous methods use inverse filtering to determine the measure of defocus. These methods suffer from some fundamental problems like inaccuracies in finding the frequency domain representation, windowing effects, and border effects. Besides these deficiencies, a filter, such as Laplacian of Gaussian, that produces an aggregate estimate of defocus for an unknown texture, can not lead to accurate depth estimates because of the non-stationary nature of images. We propose a new depth from defocus (DFD) method using wavelet analysis that is capable of performing both the local analysis and the windowing technique with variable-sized regions for non-stationary images with complex textural properties. We show that normalized image ratio of wavelet power by Parseval's theorem is closely related to blur parameter and depth. Experimental results have been presented demonstrating that our DFD method is faster in speed and gives more precise shape estimates than previous DFD techniques for both synthetic and real scenes.

Image Quality Assessment by Measuring Blocking Artifacts (블록화 현상의 측정을 통한 영상의 화질평가)

  • Block based transform coding is most popular approach for image and video compression. However it suffers from severe quality degradation especially from blocking artifacts. The subjective quality degradation caused by such blocking artifacts in general does not agree well with an objecive quality measurement such as PSNR. Hence new quality evaluation technique is necessary. We propose a new image quality assessment method by measuring blocking artifacts for block based transform coded images. In order to characterize blocking artifacts, proposed method utilizes the facts that, blocking artifacts, when occur, have different pixel values along the block boundaries and such differences usually continuously span along the whole boundaries. This method does not require the original uncompressed image. It operates on single block boundary and quantifies the amount of blocking artifacts on it. Experiments on various compressed images various bitrates show that proposed quantitative measure of blocking artifacts matches well with the subjective quality of them judged by human visual system.

  • As the demand of digital image processing devices has been rapidly increased recently, the excellent image quality is required. However, degradation can be occurred with multiple causes during transmission and processing process. Therefore, the needs to eliminate the noise are increased and the noise elimination technology became the major study area. Therefore, image restoration algorithm was suggested to apply the filter differently by edge and non-edge areas, using modified edge detection with preprocessing process so as to relieve the effect of additive white Gaussian noise(AWGN) which is added in the image, in this article. In addition, it was compared with the existing methods using peak signal to noise ratio(PSNR) as the objective determination standard of the improvement effect.

Adaptive Video Enhancement Algorithm for Military Surveillance Camera Systems (국방용 감시카메라를 위한 적응적 영상화질 개선 알고리즘)

  • Surveillance cameras in national border and coastline area often occur the video distortion because of rapidly changing weather and light environments. It is positively necessary to enhance the distorted video quality for keeping surveillance. In this paper, we propose an adaptive video enhancement algorithm in the various environment changes. To solve an unstable performance problem of the existing method, the proposed method is based on Retinex algorithm and uses enhanced curves which is adapted in foggy and low-light conditions. In addition, we mixture the weighted HSV color model to keep color constancy and reduce noise to obtain clear images. As a results, the proposed algorithm improves the performance of well-balanced contrast enhancement and effective color restoration without any quality loss compared with the existing algorithm. We expect that this method will be used in surveillance camera systems and offer help of national defence with reliability.

  • Digital image processing is being utilized in various fields including medical industry, satellite photos, and factory automation image recognition. However, this kind of image data produces heat by an external cause in the course of being processed, transmitted, and stored. Most typical noises added in the images are AWGN and salt and pepper. MF, CWMF, and AWMF are methods used to restore images damaged by AWGN and the existing methods are likely to damage detailed information such as an edge. Therefore, this paper suggests an algorithm applying weight of average filter, average filter depending on pixel, and spatial weight filter based on edge size of local mask in an AWGN environment, in a different way. Also, this paper compares functions of existing methods by using PSNR to prove excellence of the suggested algorithm.

Algorithm for Improving Visibility under Ambient Lighting Using Deep Learning (딥러닝을 이용한 외부 조도 아래에서의 시인성 향상 알고리즘)

  • Display under strong ambient lighting is perceived darker than it really is. Existing techniques for solving the problem in terms of software show limitations in that image enhancement techniques are applied regardless of ambient lighting or chrominance is not improved compared to luminance. Therefore, this paper proposes a visibility enhancement algorithm using deep learning to adaptively respond to ambient lighting values and an equation to restore optimal chrominance for luminance. The algorithm receives an ambient lighting value with the input image, and then applies a deep learning model and chrominance restoration equation to generate an image to minimize the difference between the degradation modeling of enhanced image and the input image. Qualitative evaluation proves that the algorithm shows excellent performance in improving visibility under strong ambient lighting through comparison of images applied with degradation modeling.

A Hybrid Method for Recognizing Existence of Power Lines in Infrared Images (적외선영상내 전력선 검출을 위한 하이브리드 방법)

  • In this paper, we propose a hybrid image processing and deep learning-based method for detecting the presence of power lines in infrared images. Deep learning-based methods can learn feature vectors from a large number of data without much effort, resulting in outstanding performances in various fields. However, it is difficult to apply human intuition to the deep learning-based methods while image processing techniques can be used to apply human intuition. Based on these, we propose a method that exploits both advantages to detect the existence of power lines in infrared images. To this end, five methods have been applied and compared to find the most effective image processing technique for detecting the presence of power lines. As a result, the proposed method achieves 99.48% of accuracy which is higher than those of methods based on either image processing or deep learning.

Video Coding Method Using 2-Step Wavelet Transform (2단계 웨이블렛 변환을 이용한 동영상 부호화 기법)

  • 본 논문에서는 동영상 데이터의 효율적인 압축과 전송을 위하여 이산 웨이블렛 변환(Discrete Wavelet Transform)과 H.263 부호화[1] 방법을 이용한 영상 부호화 방법을 제안하였다. 이 방법은 웨이블렛 변환을 이용하여 영상을 여러 개의 주파수 영역별로 나누고 각각의 주파수특성에 따라 다른 부호화 방식을 취하게 된다. 제안된 방법은 정보량이 가장 많고 원본의 영상에 가장 가깝게 보존되는 저주파 영역은 H.263 부호화 방식을 사용하고, 나머지 고주파 영역은 산술부호화 방식을 사용함으로서 각각의 주파수 특성을 적절하게 고려한 압축을 하여 그 효율을 증대시키게 된다. 또한 웨이블렛 변환에 따른 저주파 영역의 크기는 실제 영상 크기의 4분의 1이 되는데, 이러한 사실은 H.263 부호화에서 움직임정보의 검출 단위인 매크로블럭(macro-block)의 개수를 줄여 웨이블렛 알고리즘 사용에 드는 추가적인 부호화 시간을 보상하게 한다. 저주파 영역의 H.263 부호화 방식으로 인한 양자화 오류로 나타나는 역 웨이블렛 변환에서의 화질열화를 최소화하기 위해 2단계 웨이블렛 변환을 사용했는데 실험결과 1단계 웨이블렛 변환을 사용한 영상에 비하여 화질이 개선됨을 알 수 있다.
