  • Thermal Analyses are conducted to measure various factors of a liquid fuel required for numerical analysis. Thermal Analyses are divided into two different methods of TGA (Thermo Gravimetric Analysis) and DSC (Differential Scanning Calorimetry). Non-isothermal experimental results are analyzed using by TGA. The results are filtered by a Freeman Carroll method. At the same time, chemical parameters of unknown liquid fuel, activation temperature and reaction order are measured to 6128.2 K and 1.4, respectively. Furthermore, the parameters can be obtained by various mathematical methods. It is found that tha parameters depend on the processing method.

  • In this study, we were manufactured wood flour-HDPE composites by modular co-rotating twin screw extruder with L/D ratio of 42. We was measured cone calorimeter test and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) to find the combustion characteristics and thermal properties for wood flour-HDPE composites. We then evaluated the effect of three additive-type flame retardants on fire resistance performance. The cone calorimeter test showed that the heat release rate (HRR) of untreated composites was the highest Peak HRR ($446.6kW/m^2$) as well as Mean HRR ($185.5kW/m^2$). From the TGA, it was shown that composites added flame retardants began early thermal decomposition and improved thermal stability.

  • We have examined explosion characteristics of bituminous coal dusts in cement manufacturing process. In order to find the thermal properties, we investigated weight loss and ignition temperature of coal materials using TGA and DSC. Also specific surface area of dust was investigated. Dust explosion experiments with Hartman's dust explosion apparatus have been conducted by varying concentration and size of coal dust for explosion probability and lower limit explosion concentration. According to the results for thermal properties, there is a little change by dust size. However, the specific surface area of dust is increased by decreasing dust size. The explosion test results show that small size and increasing concentration of dusts make dust explosion easier. And we find that the lower limit explosion concentration of bituminous coal is $0.3mg/cm^3$ and the probability is 100% on $0.9mg/cm^3$ in 170/200 mesh used in cement manufacturing process.

  • Kinetic tests on pyrolysis of the mixture of waste automobile lubricating oil and polystyrene were carried out with thermogravimetric technique at the heating rates of 0.5, 1.0, $2.0^{\circ}C/min$ in a stirred batch reactor. The activation energy and the reaction order were determined at conversions of 1 to 100% using differential method. The mixture of waste automobile lubricating oil and polystyrene was pyrolyzed at lower temperature rather than waste automobile lubricating oil and polystyrene. respectively. Also, the thermal decomposition took place in two broad reaction steps. The pyrolyzed oil of mixture represented high selectivity of styrene monomer and dimer like that of polystyrene pyrolyzed products.

  • In this work, various wood biomasses were used to determine the combustion characteristics for the fuel of cogeneration plant. Combustion characteristics of four types, i.e., (i) forest products, (ii) recycled wood, (iii) empty fruit bunch, and (iv) palm kernel shell, were examined via thermal gravimetric analyzer (TGA) in air atmosphere and coal was used as a comparison group. From the TGA results, the combustion of the wood biomass was occurred in the range of 280 to $420^{\circ}C$, which was lower than that of coal. Forest product showed the lowest activation energy (0.4 kJ/mol) compared to that of other wood biomasses (about 6 to 14 kJ/mol) and coal (64 kJ/mol). In addition, the reaction rate constant of the wood biomass was lower than that of coal. These results indicate the higher combustion initiation rate of wood biomass due to the high content of volatile matter, which had a low boiling point.

  • Characteristics of pyrolysis and liquid product distribution of ABS plastics have been studied in the thermogravimetric(TG) reactor and bomb microreactor. Pyrolysis reactions were performed at temperature $400\sim450^{\circ}C$ and yield of each pyrolytic product was obtained by the weight measurement method. The molecular weight distributions of liquid products were determined by the GC-SIMDIS method. It was observed that solid residue which could not be detected in the thermogravimetric experiments was significantly formed in the batch-type microreactor. It was found that the yield and average molecular weight of liquid products were decreased with the increase of reaction temperature and time. but the formation of styrene monomer was significantly increased. The chain-end scission rate parameters were determined to be 54.1kcal/mole far ABS by the Arrhenius plot.

  • Recently environmental pollution at sea becomes serious, so every governmental organization makes its effort to solve this problem. Combustible ocean wastes as of ropes, fishing nets, and tires are usually highly polymerized compound materials. The problem of ocean waste treatment can be solved by using the pyrolysis method. Pyrolysis characteristics of ocean waste was examined to get the basic data for the production system of fuel from the ocean waste. Thermogravimetric experiment showed that residual mass rate decreases as the velocity of temperature-rising becomes lower. The pyrolysis of waste rope and fishing net occurs at 300~450$^{\circ}C $ and the waste tire does at 350~450$^{\circ}C $. Pyrolysis time is estimated about 15 to 20 minutes in the temperature range when lively act of pyrolysis temperature reached.
