Micromechanical Model for the Consolidation Behavior in SiC-Ti Metal Matrix Composites (SiC-Ti금속기 복합재료의 강화거동에 관한 미시역학적 모델)

  • Densification occurs by the inelastic flow of the matrix materials during the consolidation processes at high temperature for MMCs, and the results depend on many process conditions such as applied pressure, temperature and volume fraction of fiber and matrix materials. This is particularly important in titanium matrix composites since material failure may occur by either the applied conditions or microstructural parameters through the processes, and thus a generic model based on micro-mechanical approaches enabling the evolution of density over time to be predicted has been developed. The mode developed is then implemented into FEM so that practical process simulation has been carried out. Further the experimental investigation of the consolidation behavior of SiC/Ti-6Al-4V composites using vacuum hot pressing has been performed, and the results obtained are compared with the model predictions.

  • We have conducted a study on stainless steel laser-welding materials by using a laser beam for the evaluation. Stainless steel used in a rust and excellent thermal deformation has a variety of application. In this study, to improve the mechanical properties of stainless steel, a 50 W laser thermal source is used and magnetic fields are applied, on the basis of suggestions. The mechanical properties and performance are evaluated by performing a numerical analysis, tensile test, and shape, microstructure, and hardness test. The results show that the mechanical properties of improve increased speed the melting pool, tensile strength of 16 kPa rise, run into the melting zone and hardness 7 Hv.

Dioctahedral Chlorite-Smectite Mixed-Layer Minerals in the Sandstones of the Ulleung Basin, Offshore SE Korea (울릉분지 사암 내에 발달된 이팔면체 녹니석 - 스멕타이트 혼합층 광물)

  • Mineralogical and chemical examinations were performed on chlorite-smectite mixed layer minerals that occur in the sandstones from a petroleum exploration well in the southern part of the Ulleung Basin. X-ray diffraction and chemical analyses show that the chlorite-smectite mixed layer mineral is tosudite, a 1 : 1 R1 ordered interstratification of chlorite and smectite with an overall dioctahedral character. This mineral is almost the same as the tosudite reported from hydrothermally-altered regions, which is rich in Li. This fact indicates that the tosudite area may be affected by hydrothermal events, because the studied well is located in the tectonically-deformed area, in which lots of trust faults and folds are present. In these respects, the formation of tosudite is probably due to the variable effect of hydrothermal fluids from the deeper part of the area.

  • The gap conductance between the fuel and the sheath depends strongly on the gap width and has a significant influence on the amount of initial stored energy. The modified Ross and Stoute gap conductance model in ELESTRES is based on a simplified thermal deformation model for steady-state fuel temperature calculations. A review on a series of experiments reveals that fuel pellets crack relocate, and are eccentrically positioned within the sheath rather than solid concentric cylinders. In this paper, the hue recently-proposed gap conductance models (offset gap model and relocated gap model) are described and are applied to calculate the fuel-sheath gap conductances under experimental conditions and normal operating conditions in CANDU reactors. The good agreement between the experimentally-inferred and calculated gap conductance values demonstrates that the modified Ross and Stoute model was implemented correctly in ELESTRES. The predictions of the modified Ross and Stoute model provide conservative values for gap heat transfer and fuel surface temperature compared to the offset gap and relocated gap models for a limiting power envelope.

Measurement of Material Properties of Composites under High Temperature using Fiber Bragg Grating Sensors (광섬유 브래그 격자 센서를 이용한 고온용 복합재료의 물성 측정)

  • Composites are widely used for aircraft, satellite and other structures due to its good mechanical and thermal characteristics such as low coefficient of thermal expansion(CTE), heat-resistance, high specific stiffness and specific strength. In order to use composites under condition of high temperature, however, material properties of composites at high temperatures must be measured and verified. In this paper, material properties of T700/Epoxy were measured through tension tests of composite specimens with an embedded FBG sensor in the thermal chamber at the temperatures of RT, $100^{\circ}$, $200^{\circ}$, $300^{\circ}$, $300^{\circ}$. Through the pre-test of an embedded optical fiber, we confirmed the embedding effects of an optical fiber on material properties of the composites. Two kinds of specimens of which stacking sequences are [0/{0}/0]$_{T}$. and [$90_2$/{0}/$90_2$]. were fabricated. From the experimental results, material property changes of composites were successfully shown according to temperatures and we confirmed that fiber Bragg grating sensor is very appropriate to strain measurement of composites under high temperature.

Improvement of Endothermic Characteristics with Catalyst Molding in Hypersonic Aircraft Cooling System (초고속 비행체 냉각을 위한 연료의 흡열성능 개선용 성형촉매 적용연구)

  • In hypersonic aircraft, increase of aerodynamic heat and engine heat leads heat loads in airframe. It could lead structural change of aircraft's component and malfunctioning. Endothermic fuels are liquid hydrocarbon fuels which are able to absorb the heat load by undergoing endothermic reactions. In this study, exo-tetrahydrodicyclopentadiene was selected as a model endothermic fuel and experiments were investigated in endothermic fuel cooling system with zeolite catalyst. Three shapes of catalysts have been manufactured and endothermic characteristics were recovered. Bineded catalyst showed higher heat absorption and conversion than other two zeolite catalysts. In product distribution, binded catalyst showed higher aromatics composition.

BST-IGT Model: Synthetic Benchmark Generation Technique Maintaining Trend of Time Series Data

  • In this paper, we introduce a technique for generating synthetic benchmarks based on time series data. Many of the data measured on IoT devices have a time series characteristic that measures numerical changes over time. However, there is a problem that it is difficult to model the data measured over a long period as generalized time series data. To solve this problem, this paper introduces the BST-IGT model. The BST-IGT model separates the entire data into sections that can be easily time-series modeled, collects the generated data into templates, and produces new synthetic benchmarks that share or modify characteristics based on them. As a result of making a new benchmark using the proposed modeling method, we could create a benchmark with multiple aspects by mixing the composite benchmark with the statistical features of the existing data and other benchmarks.

  • We investigate the crystallographic orientation and strain states of the Ni/Ag ohmic contacts on p-type GaN. The Ag film in the Ni/Ag contact was severely agglomerated during high temperature annealing in air ambient. As a results, after annealing for 24 h, the Ni/Ag contact shows non-linear I-V curve and low light reflectance of ~21% at 460 nm wavelength. High-resolution X-ray diffraction results show that the interplanar spacing of Ag (111) planes is almost same to that of bilk Ag after annealing for 24 hrs, indicating that the in-plane tensile strain in the Ag film was fully relaxed due to the Ag agglomeration.

We secured the catalyst that had better endothermic performance than commercial catalyst. The object of this study is inspect catalyst properties which have effect on heat absorption improvement. Synthetic catalyst could be applied to system that use exo-THDCP as endothermic fuel instead of other commercial catalyst.

Effect of Groundwater Flow on Ice-wall Integrity (얼음벽 형성에 대한 지하수 흐름의 영향)

  • AGF (Artificial Ground Freezing) method is a temporary ground improvement method which can apply to all types of soil with the purpose of high stiffness and low hydraulic conductivity. However, the groundwater flow and the heterogeneity of the ground increase the uncertainty of the ice-column formation which hinders the reliability of this method. The effects of groundwater flow and layered heterogeneity on ice-wall integrity by AGF method were analyzed using finite element analysis program for a coupled thermo-hydro phenomena in the freezing ground. Groundwater flow changes circular ice-column into elliptical shapes and increases the time required for the formation of ice walls. The previous theoretical formula overestimated the completion time of the ice wall and the critical groundwater velocity by neglecting the thermal interaction between adjacent ice-columns. Numerical results presented the corrected formula and verified the proposed equation for the dimensionless ice-wall completion time. In the layered heterogeneous ground, the thickness of the layer with higher hydraulic conductivity and its relative magnitude were found to be important factors in the ice-wall completion time and critical velocity.
