A Study on the design and fabrication of Pluggable Lens for Optical PCB Interconnection (광 PCB 접속용 플러거블 렌즈의 설계 및 제작 연구)

  • In this study, an optical PCB was proposed which can overcome the limitations of the conventional PCB, and a new structure with pluggable lens was considered for a high-efficient passive alignment. The structure was a lens-added optical waveguide for the improvement of misalignment between the lens and the waveguide in the alignment. Also, as it had a barrier-type structure to prevent the surface damage of the lens by desorption, the high-efficient passive alignment can be realized. The structure was designed by optimizing the simulation and the fabrication process of the pluggable lens structure was conducted using the repetitive photolithography and the thermal reflow. The optical waveguide with the lens-integrated pluggable interconnection was fabricated by the imprint process using the polydimethylsiloxane(PDMS) replica mold. Therefore, we confirmed the possibility of pluggable lens-added optical waveguide structure fabrication for high-efficient passive alignment.

A Study on Fabrication and Characterization of Inorganic Insulation Material by Hydrothermal Synthesis Method (1) (수열합성법을 이용한 무기계 단열소재 제조방법 및 특성에 관한 연구 (1))

  • In this study, the inorganic insulating material was fabricated with quartzite, ordinary portland cement(OPC), lime and anhydrous gypsum. After characteristic analysis of slurry, the optimum mixing ratio was derived with different $CaO/SiO_2$ mole ratio. Based on derived mixing ratio, the inorganic insulating material was fabricated at different water content and hydrothermal synthesis conditions. Specific gravity was $0.26g/cm^3$, compressive strength was 0.4 MPa, and thermal conductivity was 0.064 W/mK. This properties were enhanced performance of conventional ALC (Autoclaved Lightweight Concrete). And it can replace organic insulation with harmless inorganic insulation through continues research and development.

Hydraulic Characteristics of Branching and Merging of Channels in Regenerative Cooling Passage in Liquid Rocket Combustors (채널의 분기 및 병합이 있는 액체로켓 연소기 재생냉각 유로에서의 수력학적 특성)

  • Regenerative cooling passage to guarantee the thermal survivability in high performance rocket engine combustors could have complex configurations of the branching/merging of channels and flow turning, etc. By applying the classical hydraulic coefficients which can be found in the literature according to the flow conditions, hydraulic characteristics in regenerative cooling passages can be obtained effectively through dividing the pressure loss into friction loss and local resistance loss. Satisfactory agreement has been obtained by comparing the present results with experimental measurement of water flow test. In addition, the present results were in good agreement with CFD results when the actual coolant, kerosene was used. Therefore, the application of the present method is expected to be useful to design regeneratively cooled combustors.

Statistical Analysis of Synthesis of Gamma-alumina (γ-Al2O3) Nanoparticles Using Reverse Micelles (역미셀을 이용한 감마-알루미나 나노입자 합성에 대한 통계적 분석)

  • An experimental design method was used to optimize the synthesis of gamma-alumina with a superior thermal stability using the reverse micelle method. First, twelve experimental conditions were derived by using the mixture design method to optimize conditions for the ratio of surfactant, water and oil, which are main factors in the synthesis process. When the particles synthesized by reverse micelle method were calcined at $900^{\circ}C$ under the designed condition, they all had gamma-alumina crystal structure although there were differences in particle sizes. The coefficient of determination of the second-order regression model using the derived experimental results was 93.68% and the P-value was 0.002. The synthesis conditions forgamma-alumina with various particle sizes were presented using surface and contour lines. As a result, it was calculated that the smallest particle size of about 2.8 nm was synthesized when the ratio of surfactant/water/oil was 0.3450/0.0729/0.5821.

  • This paper deals with an electronic ballast for hish intensity short-arc discharge lamps, which consists of a boost converter, a step down converter operated as a current source with power regulation and a low frequency inverter with external ignition circuit The ignition circuit generates high voltage pulses of 130[Hz] up to 5 [kV]. A reignition circuit is equipped in the ballast, and it operates the lamp at a regular interval for protection when an ignition fails. Acoustic resonance phenomenon was eliminated by operating a low frequency square wave voltage and current. The measured lamp voltage, current and consumption power were 123.8 [V], 8.1 [A] and 1,002 [W], respectively. From the experiment, we confirmed that the prototype ballast operates the lamp with a constant power.

  • Thermo-hydro-chemico-mechanical evolution of the radioactive waste repository and surrounding geological media is one of the key issues for the radioactive waste disposal. This article describes not only the basic context for the site selection but also a reasonable strategy for the repository related research based on the results of the French repository project carried out by ANDRA (National radioactive waste management agency). To have some alternatives for the determination of a preferable depth and geological media, it would be recommendable to establish a database system. The curing process of the fractures or microfissures in the EDZ (Excavation Disturbed Zone) during operation time has to be examined considering the evolution of the EDZ and the reversibility of the repository. It is prerequisite to carry out a feasibility study and to validate the design concept and design parameters in a properly constructed underground research laboratory (URL) in Korea.

  • Pipe-rack structures supporting high temperature and pressure are of great importance to ensure the safety of the operation of the plants. If some damage occurred in the pipe-rack structure, the facilities not only bring damage to the commercial property, but also result in economic losses. Specially, since pipe-rack structures are exposed to various environmental conditions, it is essential to evaluate the thermal behavior of the structure caused by environmental conditions for the appropriate design and maintenance of the pipe-rack structure. Thus, based on a selected, typical pipe-rack structure, a thermal-stress coupled analysis was conducted to evaluate the temperature distributions and thermal stresses of the structure. For this, this study accounted for the operating condition of the pipe and the effect of environmental conditions, Yeosu in South Korea and Saudi Arabia in the Middle East. The results of the study showed the need for accounting for a variance in the environmental factors to evaluate the thermal behavior of the pipe-rack structure along with the working condition of pipe.

Shallow Junction Device Formation and the Design of Boron Diffusion Simulator (박막 소자 개발과 보론 확산 시뮬레이터 설계)

  • In this dissertation, shallow $p^+-n$ junctions were formed by ion implantation and dual-step annealing processes and a new simulator is designed to model boron diffusion in silicon. This simulator predicts the boron distribution after ion implantation and annealing. The dopant implantation was performed into the crystalline substrates using $BF_2$ ions. The annealing was performed with a RTA(Rapid Thermal Annealing) and a FA(Furnace Annealing) process. The model which is used in this simulator takes into account nonequilibrium diffusion, reactions of point defects, and defect-dopant pairs considering their charge states, and the dopant inactivation by introducing a boron clustering reaction. FA+RTA annealing sequence exhibited better junction characteristics than RTA+FA thermal cycle from the viewpoint of sheet resistance and the simulator reproduced experimental data successfully. Therefore, proposed diffusion simulator and FA+RTA annealing method was able to applied to shallow junction formation for thermal budget. process.

  • This study evaluates the thermal structural safety of the three-way catalyst(TWC) substrate for domestic passenger cars. Thermal-fluid boundary conditions on the TWC substrate were determined by D-optimal DOE. The thermal stresses on the TWC substrate were calculated by the temperature distribution obtained from the CFD results. The safety factors of the TWC substrate were determined by statistical strength and stress distributions and estimated to be 0.275. The thermal stresses for TWC substrate exceeded the strength of the material. Therefore, it is necessary to redesign the TWC substrate because it has much shorter service life than design life.

Design Optimization of a Heat Sink for Mobile Telecommunication Module Satisfying Temperature Limits (온도 제한조건을 고려한 이동통신 모듈의 히트싱크 최적설계)

  • As the number of mobile subscribers has increased recently, the demand for more number of base stations has increased. However, because of the shortage of sites for constructing base stations, a mobile communication module needs to be small in size. To minimize the size of the module, the size of the heat sink attached to the outside of the module should be minimized. Furthermore, the temperature of each electronic component of the module should be lower than the allowable temperature so that thermal stability can be maintained. A commercial PIDO (process integration and design optimization) tool PIAnO and a commercial CFD (computational fluid dynamics) tool FLOTHERM are used to minimize the size of the module while the constraints on the temperatures of the twelve electronic components are satisfied. As a result of design optimization, the volume of the heat sink is reduced by 41.9% while all the constraints on the temperature of the twelve electronic components of the module are satisfied.
