Thermal Stability Enhancement of Nickel Monosilicides by Addition of Pt and Ir (Pt와 Ir 첨가에 의한 니켈모노실리사이드의 고온 안정화)

  • We fabricated thermally evaporated 10 nm-Ni/(poly)Si, 10 nm-Ni/l nm-Ir/(poly)Si and 10 nm-Ni/l nm-Pt/(poly)Si films to investigate the thermal stability of nickel monosilicides at the elevated temperatures by rapid annealing them at the temperatures of $300{\sim}1200^{\circ}C$ for 40 seconds. Silicides of 50 nm-thick were formed on top of both the single crystal silicon actives and the polycrystalline silicon gates. A four-point tester was used to examine sheet resistance. A scanning electron microscope and field ion beam were employed for thickness and microstructure evolution characterization. An X-ray diffractometer and an Auger depth profiler were used for phase and composition analysis, respectively. Nickel silicides with platinum have no effect on widening the NiSi stabilization temperature region. Nickel silicides with iridium farmed on single crystal silicon showed a low resistance up to $1200^{\circ}C$ while the ones formed on polycrystalline silicon substrate showed low resistance up to $850^{\circ}C$. The grain boundary diffusion and agglomeration of silicides lowered the NiSi stable temperature with polycrystalline silicon substrates. Our result implies that our newly proposed Ir added NiSi process may widen the thermal process window for nano CMOS process.

  • Various poly(amic acid)s were synthesized from PMDA/BPDA/p-PDA/ODA with different mole ratios and effectively converted into 4-component polyimide films by thermal imidization. The chemical structures and thermo-mechanical properties of polyimide films were examined using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), thermo-gravimetric analyzer (TGA), thermo-mechanical analyzer (TMA), dynamic mechanical analyzer (DMA) and universal tensile machine (UTM). The tensile strength, modulus, and thermal properties of polyimides films increased with the amount of rigid PMDA and p-PDA, while the elongation and moisture absorption of polyimide films increased with the amount of flexible BPDA and ODA. One of 4-component polyimide films exhibited a similar coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) value to that of copper when it was composed of PMDA : BPDA : p-PDA : ODA with the ratio of 5 : 5 : 4 : 6. Thus, this polyimide film could be useful for a base film for flexible copper clad laminates (FCCL) of flexible printed circuit boards.

  • Submarine mud volcanos are topographic features that resemble volcanoes, and are formed due to eruptions of fluidized or gasified sediment material. They have gained attention as a source of subsurface heat, sediment, or hydrocarbons supplied to the surface. In the continental slope of the Canadian Beaufort Sea, mud volcano exists at various water depths. The MV420, is an active mud volcano erupting at a water depth of 420 meters, and it has been the subject of extensive study. The Korea Polar Research Institute(KOPRI) collected high-resolution seismic data and heat flow data around the caldera of the mud volcano. By analyzing the multi-channel seismic data, we confirmed the reverse-polarity reflector assumed by a gas hydrate-related bottom simulating reflector(BSR). To further elucidate the relationship between the BSR and gas hydrates, as well as the thermal structure of the mud volcano, a numerical geothermal model was developed based on the steady-state heat equation. Using this model, we estimated the base of the gas hydrate stability zone and found that the BSR depth estimated by multi-channel seismic data and the bottom of the gas hydrate stability zone were in good agreement., This suggests the presence of gas hydrates, and it was determined that the depth of the gas hydrate was likely up to 50 m, depending on the distance from the mud conduit. Thus, this depth estimate slightly differs from previous studies.

  • Two shapes of crystals have been isolated by the interdiffusion of $Co(NCS)_2$ dissolved in methanol with 1,2-bis(2,2'-bipyridyl-6-yl)ethane (bbpe) dissolved in chloroform. The two crystals have been elucidated as $trans-Co^{II}(NCS)_2(bbpe)$ and $trans-Co^{II}(NCS)_2(bbpe){\cdot}2CHCl_3$, by X-ray crystallography, elemental analysis, IR, and thermal analysis. The two molecular structures are very similar except for the absence or presence of chloroform solvate molecules. The bbpe ligand coordinates to the cobalt(II) ion in an open-ended tetradentate mode, resulting in discrete mononuclear cobalt(II) complex. The cobalt atom adopts a typical octahedral arrangement with six nitrogen donating atoms with two NCS groups in trans positions. A significant solid-to-solid phase transition occurs presumably due to the change of conformationally flexible bbpe ligand. The formation of both crystals oeeurs in a successive two-step process, the formation of $trans-Co^{II}(NCS)_2(bbpe)$ and its transformation into $trans-Co^{II}(NCS)_2(bbpe){\cdot}2CHCl_3$. The thermal stability and favorable formation of the solvate crystals may be ascribed to the interaction between S atom of NCS group and Cl of chloroform.

  • Crack-free dried gel monoliths of the composition $Li_2O1{\cdot}7Al_2O_3{\cdot}8.6SiO_2$ have been prepared as a precursor of transparent glass-ceramic by the hydrolysis and polycondensation of mixed metal alkoxides in solutions containing N,N-dimethylformamide as the drying control chemical additive, alcohols, and water. It was investigated that activation energy for gelation according to the variation of water concentration ranged from 13 to 14 kcal/mol. Only when the amount of water for gelation was 3 times higher than the stoichiometric amount, monolithic dry gels were successfully prepared after drying at $70{\sim}75^{\circ}C$ and at a rate of 0.1~0.3%/h. The specific surface area, the pore volume, the average pore diameters of dried gel at $180^{\circ}C$ were about $239.40m^2/g$, 0.001~0.03 mL/g, and $145.62{\AA}$, respectively. It showed that the dried monolithic gel had a porous body. The DTA curve had the first exothermic peak around $800^{\circ}C$ and the 2nd peak around $980^{\circ}C$, which may correspond to crystallization of the gel.

Durability of Carbon/Epoxy Composites for Train Carbody under Salt Water Environment (염수환경에 노출된 철도차량용 탄소섬유/에폭시 복합재의 내구성 평가)

  • This study investigates the durability of carbon/epoxy composites for use on train car bodies under a salt water spray environment. Salt water solution with 5% NaCl, similar to natural salt water, was used for the salt water environmental tests. The specimens were obtained from a composite panel consisting of an epoxy matrix reinforced with T700 carbon fabric. The specimens were exposed to the salt water environment for up to 12 months. Mechanical tests were performed to obtain tensile properties, flexural properties, and shear properties. Dynamic mechanical analysis was used to measure such thermal properties as storage modulus, loss modulus, and tan $\delta$. Also FT/IR tests were conducted to investigate changes in chemical structure with exposure. The results revealed that fiber-dominated mechanical properties were not affected much by exposure time, but matrix-dominated mechanical properties decreased with increasing exposure time. Storage modulus was not very sensitive to exposure time, but glass transition temperature was affected, slightly decreasing with increasing exposure time. Although the peak intensity of FT/IR curves was affected slightly by exposure time, the peak shape and peak location of FT/IR curves were not noticeably changed. Carbon/epoxy composites used for this study were relatively stable to the salt water environment.

  • 최근 유한연료의 고갈로 인해 세계 유가가 불안정 됨으로서 대체 에너지에 대한 연구가 많이 진행 되고 있다. 특히 압전 소자를 이용한 에너지 하베스팅은 압전 역효과를 이용한 것으로서 주변에서 무의미하게 버려지는 진동이나 바람, 열 에너지를 실 생활에 사용할 수 있는 전기 에너지로 변환할 수 있는 유망한 기술 중 하나이다. 이러한 에너지 하베스팅 기술은 일본과 같은 선진국에서 이미 지하철 및 일반 다리와 같이 진동이 극히 많은 곳에서 응용되고 있다. 이러한 에너지 하베스팅 기술을 응용 하려면 전압출력 계수($g_{33}$)가 높아야 한다. 이것은 압전 d 상수와 유전상수에 영향을 많이 받는 것으로 알려져 있다. 현재가지 응용되는 압전 하베스팅 조성은 Pb(Zr,Ti)$O_3$ (PZT)를 기초로한 세라믹이 응용되고 있다. Pb(Zr,Ti)$O_3$ (PZT) 세라믹은 Morpohotropic phase boundary(MPB)에서 전기기계 결합계수 (kp) 와 기계적 품질계수 (Qm) 이 각각 0.5와 500으로 우수한 특성을 나타낸다. 또한 큐리온도 (Tc) 도 $400^{\circ}C$로 온도 안정성 또한 높다. 하지만 $1000^{\circ}C$ 이상에서 소결하는 PbO는 소결 중 급격한 휘발로 환경적 오염 뿐 아니라 특성의 저하를 야기시킨다. 그래서 몇몇 나라에서는 그 사용을 제한하고 점차적으로 사용을 줄여 나가고 있는 동시에 PbO가 첨가되어 있지 않은 Lead-Free 세라믹의 연구가 많이 진행되고 있다. Lead-Free 세라믹 중 alkaline niobate를 기초로 한 페로브스카이트 구조의 ($Na_{0.5}K_{0.5})NbO_3$ (NKN) 은 PbO를 기초로 한 세라믹을 대체할 유망한 후보자 중 하나이다. 하지만 NKN세라믹의 K 성분의 조해성 및 고온에서의 휘발로 인해 일반 적인 소결 방법으로는 고밀도의 세라믹을 얻기 매우 어렵다. 그래서 Hot pressing, Hot forging, RTGG(Reactive Template Grain Growth), SPS(Spark plasma Sintering)와 같은 특별한 소결 법을 이용하거나 $K_8CuNb_4O_{23}$(KCN) 이나 $K_{5.4}Cu_{1.3}Ta_{10}O_{29}$(KCT) 등을 첨가하여 그 소결성을 향상 시키는 방법도 있다. 또한 압전 d상수를 향상 시키기 위해 $Nb_2O_5$나, $La_2CO_3$, $CeO_2$, $Li_2CO_3$ 등을 치환함으로써 압전 d상수를 향상 시켜 전압출력 계수를 높이는 연구 또한 많은 보고가 되어 있다. 특히 $Li_2CO_3$의 첨가는 일반 적인 소결 방법으로도 밀도의 조밀함을 향상 시켜 그에 따른 높은 유전율과 전기기계 결합계수, 압전 d상수를 가져 많은 연구가 되어지고 있다. 그래서 본 연구에서는 일반적인 ($K_{0.5}N_{0.5})_{1-x}Li_x(Nb_{0.96}Sb_{0.04})O_3$ + 0.2mol%$La_2O_3$ + 1.2mol%$K_8CuNb_4O_{23}$ 세라믹에 x(=Li) 치환에 따른 유전 및 압전특성을 조사하였다.

Environmental Test Results of a Flight Model of a Compact Imaging Spectrometer for a Microsatellite STSAT-3 (과학기술위성3호 소형영상분광기 발사모델 환경시험 결과)

  • A compact imaging spectrometer (COMIS) was developed for a microsatellite STSAT-3. The satellite is now rescheduled to be launched into a low sun-synchronous Earth orbit (~700 km) by the end of 2012. Its main operational goal is the imaging of the Earth's surface and atmosphere with ground sampling distance of 27 m and 2 - 15 nm spectral resolution over visible and near infrared spectrum (0.4 - 1.05 ${\mu}m$). A flight model of COMIS was developed following an engineering model that had successfully demonstrated hyperspectral imaging capability and structural rigidity. In this paper we report the environmental test results of the flight model. The mechanical stiffness of the model was confirmed by a small shift of the natural frequency i.e., < 1% over 10 gRMS random vibration test. Electrical functions of the model were also tested without showing any anomalies during and after vacuum thermal cycling test with < $10^{-5}$ torr and $-30^{\circ}C\;-\;35^{\circ}C$. The imaging capability of the model, represented by a modulation transfer function (MTF) value at the Nyquist frequency, was also kept unvaried after all those environmental tests.

Photochromic Properties of Cellulose Derivatives Having Spirobenzopyran Group (스피로벤조피란을 포함하는 셀룰로오스 유도체의 광변색 특성)

  • Cellulose acetate derivatives containing 6-(p-hexyloxyphenyl)carbonyl spirobenzopyran (CA-COSP) were prepared from base-catalyzed etherification of cellulose acetate, and their physical and photochromic properties were characterized. The degree of substitution of COSP was calculated from the amount of residual hydroxyl groups in cellulose acetate measured by the $^1H$-NMR and UV spectrometric data. It was ranging from 0.87 to 45.5% depending on the reaction condition. UV/vis spectrometry of the resulting CA-COSP revealed that the polymer shows a reversible color change by changing its color from colorless to blue upon UV irradiation forming a merocyanine structure, and returning back again to colorless spiropyran structure by visible light or by heat. The rate of color change was faster in solution than in the film. In the more polar solvent, the more stable was the resulting merocyanine, and the slower was the rate of reverse reaction to spiropyran. Compared to COSP blended with cellulose acetate, in which a phase separation was observed for samples containing more than 0.9 wt% of COSP, up to 48 wt% of COSP could be blended in CA-COSP without phase separation.

Consideration of Procurement System and Material Homogeneity for Lime and Clay using the Tombs within the King Muryeong and the Royal Tombs in Gongju, Korea (공주 무령왕릉과 왕릉원 내부에 사용한 석회 및 점토의 재료학적 동질성과 조달체계 검토)

  • The lime and clay that used in the construction of the Tomb of King Muryeong and the Royal Tombs in Gongju are auxiliary materials, and are used joint and plaster materials for the wall to play a role of structural support. In this study, the homogeneity between the tombs and material characteristics were interpreted through quantitative analysis of lime and clay. As a result of microtexture and composition analysis, almost the same minerals were identified in each sample groups, and similar characteristics were shown in thermal analysis. Geochemically, it is confirmed that the behavior characteristics are very similar regardless of the tombs. The compositions is also confirmed high homogeneity in the diagrams of CaO-MgO-SiO2, RO2-(RO+R2O) correlations, A-CN-K and A-CNK-FM triangles. Therefore, it is interpreted that the clay used for the construction of the tomb complex was supplied from around area, and the raw materials of lime were produced using shell fragments of oyster family based on mainly composed of calcite. It is interpreted that the raw materials of lime were supplied from middens along the west coast of down the Geumgang river in Korean peninsula, but the consideration of the supply site, needs to be cross-validated through stable isotope analysis, use of carbonate rock and reproduction experiments.
