  • Kiwifruits conventionally grown (CG), grown with low levels of chemicals (LCG), and organically grown (OG), were kept in cold storage for 24 weeks. Firmness gradually decreased with increasing storage time, regardless of cultivation mode, and the rate of softening was slightly higher in OG than in CG or LCG fruit. Neither dry matter level nor sensory values differed with varying types of cultivation. Soluble solid content increased with storage time, whereas acidity decreased in all fruit. Reducing sugar content increased notably until 12 weeks of storage, whereas starch content significantly decreased. The rate of OG fruit decay abruptly increased mid-storage and reached 35% 24 weeks after storage. Most fruit decayed due to infection with Botritis cinerea, regardless of cultivation type. Respiration and ethylene content peaked at mid-storage and were both slightly higher in OG fruit than in CG or LCG fruit. The shelf life of kiwifruit was reduced in OG fruit by increased fruit decay and softening during storage.

  • This study was conducted to investigate effects of removal levels of leaves of rootstocks on growth and quality of chicon in blanching culture of chicory (Cichorium intybus L.). Most qualities of chicon producted by different length levels of left leaves were not significant difference among treatments in the other's excepted length of chicon was longer in 1cm and 2cm lengths than in 4cm length. Moisture in 4cm length and vitamin C contents of chicon in 1cm length were higher than in the other's. In qualities of chicon producted by different removal levels of outer leaves, flesh and dry weight were heavier in full removal. However length, diameter, hardness of chichon were not appeared significant difference. Vitamin C content was appeared effects of removal of the outer leaves. Accordingly, there was considered additional treatments such as length control and removal of outer leaves with conventional treatment in pre-treatments of rootstocks are not appeared a great effects.

  • This study was carried out to investigate appropriate processing conditions for expanded rice hulls to be used as a medium material in nutrient cultures. The water holding capacity of expanded rice hulls produced by using a domestic grinder with 8 mm gap and 3 mm cutter height was 271.0, and the bulk density and CEC were 0.19g·m-3 and 37.0 cmol·kg-1, respectively. These values are higher than those of perilte. However, geometric mean diameter (GMD) of expanded rice hulls was 1.01mm which was smaller than that of perlite, indicating unfavorable porosity. After supplying nutrient solution, the faster water percolation in expanded rice than perlite required more frequent water supply. There was no significant difference in tomato fruit yield between expanded rice hull and perlite. The pH increase and the lack of nitrogen in early stage of culture are to be solved in the future.

  • This experiment was carried out to clarity the effect of summer softening cultivation on bud yield of Aralia continentalis Kita. Bulbous plant harvested on March 25 and stored in low temperature storage room($0-2^{\circ}C$) were transplanted in May, June, July and August. The bulbous plants were grown under black PE film and 50%(T-2250) silver shading nets. The results obtained are summerized as fallows. Harvesting time in Jul. and Aug. transplanting was 15days and was speeling 5days in May transplanting. The accumulative temperature of whole growth period was about $400^{\circ}C$. But yield of soft stems in June transplanting was 6.64(ton/ha), which was more than others. High temperature induced low-quality of soft stem in transplanting in July. Net income was 18000(1000won/ha) in transplanting in May or June.

  • The experiment was carried out to determine the optimum fertilization level showing high quality on Aralia cordata Thunb. Plant height of fertilization(27-15-27kg) was promoted significantly compared with conventional fertilization(17-9-17kg). This effect was followed with increment of blanched length. Among underground parts, main root length was increased in conventional fertilization, and more cultural year was prolonged, the more yield of dry root weight was increased. Fresh leaf yield to produce high quality of Aralia cordata plant was remarkably increased about 6% in fertilization of 27-15-27kg per 10a. As a result, to produce higher good quality of the plant. the optimum fertilization level was 27-15-27kg per 10a.
