  • The characteristics of variability of temperature and precipitation in Jeju were investigated using data observed in Jeju station for from 1924 to 2004. Annual mean temperature change for the last 81 years is $0.02^{\circ}C$ increase per year. After 1980, the increase is $0.05^{\circ}C$ per year, larger than the former. The increase of the minimum temperature is larger than that of the maximum temperature in Jeju and has resulted in the increase of mean temperature. The frequency of climate extreme occurrence of temperature and rainfall was also investigated. The temporal variation of frequency of the extremely higher temperature has increased in the 1980's with global warming. The appearance of the extremely lower minimum temperature has decreased during the summers and winters. The facts that the frequencies of rainy days has decreased and heavy rainfall days of more than 80 mm per day in precipitation has increased indicate the increase of rainfall intensity.

  • We researched community structure, species composition, and habitat environment of Dendropanax morbifera populations distributed in Goheung, Haenam, Wando (I.), and Bogildo (I.) at south coast of the Korean Peninsula. Our research was also estimated possible area for growth of Dendropanax morbifera by analyzing meteorological factors of the habitat thereof. Dendropanax morbifera community divided into Castanopsis cuspidata var. sieboldii group and Carpinus laxiflora group by difference of species composition. Broad-leaved evergreens showed high dominance value in view of rNCD in Dendropanax morbifera community as follows: Camellia japonica (100.0), Quercus acuta (88.6), Castanopsis cuspidata var. sieboldii (55.8), Dendropanax morbifera Lev. (41.4), Trachelospermum asiaticum var. intermedium (23.8), Eurya japonica (19.9) and Ligustrum japonicum (11.5). In the population distribution, 94.2% of Carpinus laxiflora group consisted of sapling and small size class that are less than 5 cm in DBH while 54.2% of Castanopsis cuspidata var. sieboldii group did. The soil environment of habitat showed low soil acidity, good organic matter and water content, and good drainage. The distribution area of Dendropanax morifera habitat had $13^{\circ}C$ or more in annual mean temperature, $7.4^{\circ}C$ or more in daily minimum temperature, $100^{\circ}C$ month or more in warmth index, and approximately 1,344 mm in mean annual precipitation. Dendropanax morifera habitat corresponded to evergreen broad-leaved forest zone located in islands and coast in the southwest region of the Korean Peninsula. The northern limit line of Dendropanax morifera community was determined as Gunsan-Jeongeup-Gwangju-Jinju-Pohang-Youngdeok line based on $13^{\circ}C$ in annual mean temperature that was confirmed in natural habitat of Dendropanax morifera community.

  • The objective of this study is the evaluation of the impact on the construction condition due to historical observation data and IPCC SRES A2 climate change scenario. For this purpose, daily precipitation and daily mean temperature data which have been observed over the past 30 years by Korea Meteorological Administration are collected and applied. Also, A2 scenarios during 2011~2040 and 2051~2080 are used for this analysis. According to the results of trend analyses on annual precipitation and annual mean temperature, they are on the increase mostly. The available working day and the day occurred an extreme event are used as correlation indices between climate factor and construction condition. For the past observation data, linear regression and Mann-Kendall test are used to analyze the trend on the correlation index. As a result, both working day and extreme event occurrence day are increased. Likewise, for the future, variation analysis showed the similar result to that of the past and the occurrence frequency of extreme events is increased obviously. Therefore, we can project to increase flood damage potential on the construction site by climate change.

  • Climatic elements were investigated in order to understand the atmospheric environment around the Pohang area and for use as basic information in prediction. In this analysis, we could find that the annual mean temperature, relative humidity, and precipitation are 14.39$^{\circ}C$, 63.3%, and 1.178mm, respectively. The prevailing wind direction was southwestern, and the mean wind speed is 2.7m/s. The amount of cloud was abundant during the summer because of the Jang-ma phenomenon and convective clouds induced by terrain effect. The annual mean duration of sunshine represented about 2,221 hours.

  • Busan has its unique character which differed from inland such as Seoul and Daegu Because Busan is located in coast district of Korea, it could be inferred that the climate change in Busan had been influenced by foreshore reclamation in the urbanization process. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between reclamation of the foreshore and climate change by analysing the climate change over the past 70 years in three metropolitan cities. The conclusion from this study are as follows. 1) There was not a big difference among elements of climate change in three cities. 2) Annual mean minimum temperature in Seoul and Daegu had remarkably increased over the past 70 years. On the other hand, annual maximum temperature in Busan had a sudden rise in the only tome to reclaim the foreshore.

  • Due to low annual average temperature, road tunnel lining in domestic cold region (Gangwon province) experiences durability problems. The financial and human damage due to cracks, breakout, exfoliation and water leakage increases every year. However, domestic research on effect of temperature on road tunnel lining damage is insufficient. Thus, this research has investigated 70 tunnels located in cold region (Gangwon-do) to analyze damage status. Furthermore, by contrasting damage on tunnels in relatively warm Gangneung area with those in relatively cold Hongcheon area, the effect of temperature on road tunnel lining damage was analyzed.

  • Growth environments of Cypripedium macranthum Sw. habitats distributed in mountains and highland plains of northern part of Kyunggi-do and Kangwon-do in Korea, were studied in order to obtain basic data. Mean temperature in habitats of Cypripedium macranthum was $14^{\circ}C$ and minimum value was recorded $-7^{\circ}C$ in January, and maximum value was $28^{\circ}C$ in August. Mean soil temperature of the orchid sites was $11^{\circ}C$ and minimum value was $-4^{\circ}C$ in January. The light intensity from March to May was 48,000~51,400 lux and the lowest value was 11,500 lux in July. Light intensity in shade habitat sites from July to August was dropped to 470~865 lux, and the SPAD value was 34.3 in July, which was the highest of the year. The range of soil acidity was pH 5.6~5.8 and soil moisture was 16.4%~36.2%. The highest soil moisture was 36.2% on June. The Cypripedium habitats were correlated with temperature (especially high temperature), light intensit, and soil moisture. However, critical factor seems to be soil moisture in distribution of Cypripedium macranthum in Korea.

  • Air temperature was continuously measured in hilly pear orchards at 4 sites with elevations of 10, 49, 104 and 253 m above sea level. The mean air temperature, averaged over the 10-month period from August 2001 to June 2002, decreased as the site elevation increased by 0.2$^{\circ}C$ per 100 m. This weak lapse condition was amplified during daytime by sun-slope geometry. But on most days an inversion condition began by sunset and persisted until the next sunrise. During the observation period, daily minimum temperature at the valley bottom was lower than that of the hilltop on 67% of the days, and the average temperature difference was 1.4$^{\circ}C$. Inversion of daily minimum temperature under clear sky conditions was stronger in spring and autumn than in winter with a maximum of 6$^{\circ}C$. Lapse condition was predominant in daily minimum temperature on rainy days, and the lapse rate was strongest in winter.

  • This study aimed to investigate the change of humidity by city size in South Korea. Using daily mean relative humidity and water vapor pressure during the period of 1954~2011 for 14 weather stations in South Korea, the change of humidity by city size was analyzed. The change of relative humidity had a continuous decreasing trend for the period of 1954~2011. The decreasing trend in large city was bigger than these of rural one. The seasonal relative humidity was significantly changed in spring and winter. The change of water vapor pressure was rarely changed significance of the results by city size. It was not shown the result to constant trend by city size. There was a negative correlation between relative humidity and mean temperature. And change of relative humidity was correlated with city size. Moreover, there was not correlation between relative humidity and water vapor pressure by city size. The decreasing trend of relative humidity was similar to increasing trend of temperature by urbanization. However, there was not shown significant result of water vapor pressure.
