This study investigated the possibility of usage of freeze-dried ingredients for the preparation of Nabak kimchi. The quality characteristics of Nabak kimchi using freeze-dried ingredients (radish, kimchi cabbage, green onion, garlic and ginger) were monitored during storage at $4^{\circ}C$. The initial pH of Nabak kimchi was 5.76~5.93, however, it decreased significantly over increasing storage periods (p<0.05). The titratable acidity of Nabak kimchi increased during storage, reaching 0.43~1.08%. Among the freeze-dried samples, those treated with freeze-dried radish and minor ingredients showed lower titratable acidity than that of the control. The initial number of total aerobic and lactic acid bacteria were 5.57~6.25, and 5.52~6.24 log CFU/g, respectively. After 28 days, the population of total aerobic and lactic acid bacteria in the raw ingredients and freeze-dried minor ingredients was less than 8.0 log CFU/g, but more than 9.0 log CFU/g in other samples. Yeasts and molds in Nabak kimchi were detected up to 2~3 log CFU/g, but coliforms were not detected in all samples during storage. The score of firmness and overall acceptability in the control, raw ingredients and freeze-dried minor ingredients were significantly higher than others (p<0.05). These results indicated that freeze-dried ingredients, such as green onion, garlic, and ginger, can be used in kimchi and would delay microbial growth and extend the shelf-life of kimchi without any deduction of sensory quality.
In this study, 0, 20, 40, 60, 80, and 100% $Ulmus$$pumila$ L. nonglutinous and glutinous sikhe were added to $Ulmus$$pumila$ L. extracts for 15 days at $4^{\circ}C$, and for seven days at $25^{\circ}C$, to examine the extracts' storage properties and sensory characteristics. The results are as follows: (1) On the changes of pH and acidity during storage of $Ulmus$$pumila$ L. nonglutinous and glutinous sikhe, both of them showed lower pH values with lower additive $Ulmus$$pumila$ L. extract contents. The pH value continuously decreased with a longer storage period, and the acidity was higher with a lower concentration of $Ulmus$$pumila$ L. extract. (2) The total microbial cell count during storage of $Ulmus$$pumila$ L. nonglutinous and glutinous sikhe at $4^{\circ}C$ was 4.6-5.0 log CFU/g at 0 day. The sikhe to which $Ulmus$$pumila$ L. extract was not added increased to 8.8-9.0 log CFU/g on the seventh storage day, while the sikhye to which 80 and 100% $Ulmus$$pumila$ L. extracts were added were 7.8 and 6.9 logCFU/g, respectively. Thus, the total cell count was lower with a higher additive content of $Ulmus$$pumila$ L. extract. The total cell count of the sikhe to which 0-60% $Ulmus$$pumila$ L. extracts reached the maximum value on the seventh storage day and did not show any change thereafter. The total cell count of the sikhe to which 80 and 100% $Ulmus$$pumila$ L. extracts were added, however, reached the maximum value on the 10th to 13th storage days, thus showing that the storage period was increased by $Ulmus$$pumila$ L. At $25^{\circ}C$, the total cell count was 4.6-5.0 log CFU/g on 0 day and continuously increased during the storage period. It had increased to 8.9-9.5 log CFU/g on the seventh storage day, and no differences were shown according to the additive content of $Ulmus$$pumila$ L. extract. (3) On the sensory characteristics of $Ulmus$$pumila$ L. nonglutinous and glutinous sikhe, the $Ulmus$$pumila$ L. nonglutinous sikhe to which 20% $Ulmus$$pumila$ L. extract was added showed the highest overall-acceptability value ($4.23{\pm}0.95$), whereas the $Ulmus$$pumila$ L. glutinous sikhe to which 40% $Ulmus$$pumila$ L. extract was added showed the highest overall-acceptability value ($3.95{\pm}0.95$). The sikhe to which 20 and 40% $Ulmus$$pumila$ L. extracts were added showed significantly high taste, flavor, sweetness, and overall-preference values (p<0.05).

The centromere is a highly differentiated structure of the chromosome that fulfills a multitude of essential mitotic and meiotic functions. Alphoid DNA (${\alpha}$-satellite) is the most abundant family of repeated DNA found at the centromere of all human chromosomes, and chromosomes of primates in general. The most important parts in the development of Human Artificial Chromosomes (HACs), are the isolation and maintenance of stability of centromeric region. For isolation of this region, we could use the targeting hook with alphoid DNA repeat and cloned by Transformation-Associated Recombination (TAR) cloning technique in yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The method includes rolling-circle amplification (RCA) of repeats in vitro to 5 kb-length and elongation of the RCA products by homologous recombination in yeast. Four types of $35\;kb{\sim}50\;kb$ of centromeric DNA repeat arrays (2, 4, 5, 6 mer) are used to examine the stability of repeats in homologous recombination mutant strains (rad51, rad52, and rad54). Following the transformation into wild type, rad51 and rad54 mutant strains, there were frequent changes in inserted size. A rad52 mutant strain showed extremely low transformation frequency, but increased stability of centromeric DNA repeat arrays at least 3 times higher than other strains. Based on these results, the incidence of large mutations could be reduced using a rad52 mutant strain in maintenance of centromeric DNA repeat arrays. This genetic method may use more general application in the maintenance of tandem repeats in construction of HAC.
The delivery of optimal orthodontic treatment is greatly influenced by clinician's ability to predict and control tooth movement by applying well-known force system to dentition. It is very important to determine the location of the centers of resistance of a tooth or teeth in order to have better understanding the nature of displacement characteristics under various force levels. In this study, three dimensional finite element analysis was used to measure the initial displacement of the consolidated teeth under loading. The purpose of this study was to define the location of the centers of resistance at the upper six anterior segment. To observe the changes of six anterior segment, 200gm, 250gm, 300gm, and 350gm forces at right and left hand side each were imposed toward lingual direction. For this study, two cases, six anterior teeth and six anterior teeth after corticotomy, were reviewed. In addition, it was reviewed the effects of changes on the location of the center of resistance in both cases based on different degree of forces aforementioned. The results were that : 1. The instantaneous center of resistance for the six anterior teeth was vertically located between level 4 and level 5, which is, at 6.76mm, $44.32\%$ apical to the cementoenamel junction level. 2. The instantaneous center of resistance for the six anterior teeth after corticotomy was located vertically between level 4 and level 5, that is, at 7.09mm $46.38\%$ apical to the cementoenamel junction level. 3. Changes of force showed little effect on the location of the center of resistance in each case. 4. It was observed that the location of the instantaneous center of resistance for the six anterior teeth after corticotomy was changed more than the six anterior teeth without corticotomy to the apical part, and the displacement of the consolidated anterior teeth moved further in case of the consolidated teeth after corticotomy.
This study was described to examine the meaning of the media exhibition work <70mK>, which aims to capture the topography of the collective consciousness of the Korean people through large-scale interviews. <70mK> edits and organizes interview images of individual beings in mosaic-like layouts and forms, creating video exhibitions and holding exhibitions. The objects in the split frame show the continuity of differences that reveal their own thoughts and personalities. This is a synchronic and conscious collective typology in which the intrinsic nature of the individuals is embodied in a simultaneous and holistic image. Interview images reveal their own form as a actual being and convey the intrinsic nature of one's own as oral information. <70mK> constructs a new individualization by aesthetically structuring the forms and information of life individuals in the extension of a specific group. The beings in the frame are not communicating with each other and are looking straight ahead. it conveys to visitors their relationship and personality as the preindividual reality. It is the repetitive arrangement and composition of heterogeneity and difference that each individual shows, and is a chain operation that includes collective identity behind it. <70mK> constructs the direct images and sounds of individual interviewee, creating a new form of information transfer called Video Art Exhibition. This makes metaphors and perceptions of the meaning and process of transindividual relationships and the meaning of psychic individuation and collective individuation. This is an appropriate case to explain with modern technology and individualization of Gilbert Simondon thought together with the meaning of becoming and relation of individualization. The exhibition space constructed by <70mK> is an aesthetic methodology of the psychic and collective meaning and its relationship to a particular group of individuals through which they are connected. Simondon studied the meaning of the process of individualization and the meaning of becoming, and is a philosopher who positively considered the potential of modern technology. <70mK> is a new individual as structured and generated ethical reality mediated by modern technology mechanisms and network behaviors. It is an case of an aesthetic and practical methodology of how interviews function as 'transduction' in the process of individualization in which technology is cooperated. The direct images and sounds of <70mK> are systems in which the information of life individuals is carried, amplified, accumulated and transmitted. It is also a new individual as a psychic and collective landscape. It is a newly became exhibition art work through the multiple individualization, and is a representation of transindividual meanings and process. The media exhibition art of individualized metastable states leads to new relationships in which viewers perceive the same preindividual reality and feel affectivity. The exhibition space of <70mK> becomes a stage for preparing the actual possibility of the transindividual group beyond the representation of the semantic function.

The habit of finger sucking is a reflex occurring in the oral stage, due to nutritive and psychological desire. The habit of finger sucking is considered to be normal till 3 years of age. Dento-skeletal effect on maxillo-mandibular complex including occlusion is naturally correction, when habit stopped before 3 years. If finger sucking continues till $3{\sim}4$ years, Finger sucking leads to severe malocclusion and remarkable discrepancy maxillo-mandibular complex, which is difficult in expectation of natural correction. It is necessary to positive treatment. Treatment of malocclusion, as related to finger sucking is classified two methods. (psychological approach and orthodontic appliance) To stop a habit and to correct severe skeletal discrepancy and malocclusion, $fr\ddot{a}nkel$ appliance is very effective device. This study is to report two cases of treatment of malocclusion, as related to finger sucking. 2 years 10 months old girl with severe overjet, maxillo-mandibular skeletal discrepancy and severe convex facial profile was treated with a FR-II appliance. Finger sucking habit stopped immediately After 16 months, severe overjet, maxillo-mandibular skeletal discrepancy and severe convex facial profile was corrected. 4 years 2 months old girl with midline deviation, mandibular right shift, collateral posterior crossbite and facial asymmetry was treated with a FR-III appliance. Finger sucking habit stopped immediately. After 10 month, Midline deviation, mandibular right shift, collateral posterior crossbite and facial asymmetry were corrected. FR-appliance is a recommendable appliance for a habit breaker and correction of skeletal discrepancy.
Background: Massive hemoptysis is a major clinical and surgical problem related to high motality. Bronchial and nonbronchial systemic arteries are considered to be the main source of hemoptysis. Embolization of these arteries has become an accepted treatment in the management of massive hemoptysis. Herein we evaluate the effect of arterial embolization in immediate control of massive hemoptysis and investigate the clinical and angiographic characteristics and the course of patients with recurrent hemoptysis after initial successful embolization. Method: 21 patients (15 men & women, aged 21 to 74 years) underwent transcatheter arterial embolization for the treatment of life-threatening massive hemoptysis from Jan 1988 to July 1991. Seven patients had inactive residual pulmonary tuberculosis, 5 cases aspergilloma, 4 cases active pulmonary tuberculosis, 3 cases bronchiectasis and 2 case lung cancer. Arteriography was done by percutaneous catheterization via the femoral artery, and at the same time, arterial embolization was done with gelfoam particle. Result: Immediate control of massive hemoptysis was achieved in all 21 cases by arterial embolization. Hemoptysis recurred in nine of 21 patients. Four cases were aspergilloma, two inactive tuberculosis, two lung cancer, and one bronchiectasis. The initial angiographic findings revealed that nonbronchial systemic arterial supply, bronchial-pulmonary arterial shunt, and marked vascularity were more frequently, but statistically insignificant, in recurred patients. The following complications occured: fever, chest pain, cough, voiding difficulty, paralytic ileus, paraplegia, and splenic infarction. The course of the recurred patients was as follows: Three patients were died due to recurred massive hemoptysis. one was aspergilloma and two lung cancer. Surgical resection could be performed successfully in two patient with relatively good lung function, one aspergilloma and the other inactive tuberculosis. In 4 patients with poor lung function, repeated embolization or medical conservative treatment was continued. Conclusion: Arterial embolization as initial treatment of massive hemoptysis is most useful and relatively safe, although this is a palliative procedure and the potentiality for recurrence exists. Repeated embolization in inoperable patient with recurrent bleeding may improve the lengthening of life.

We investigated the changes in microbial and physicochemical characteristics of the raw materials of Saengsk (brown rice, barley, carrot, potato, Angelica utilis Makino and kale) during storage after treatment with slightly acidic electrolyzed water (SAEW). To confirm the antimicrobial effects of the treatment washing solutions as well as the physicochemical changes in chromaticity, we stored the raw materials of Saengsik for 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 days at storage temperatures of 4, 10, 15, 20, 25 and $30^{\circ}C$ in a shelf-life study. The effects of microbial inhibition were higher in carrot treated with SAEW than in that treated with NaOCl, as indicated by a 1.75 log CFU/g reduction. Moreover, a 1.54 log CFU/g reduction of total coliforms was achieved in brown rice in response to SAEW treatment, which was higher than NaOCl treatment at all storage temperatures and periods. The lightness, redness and yellowness values of the raw materials of Saengsik were not significantly affected by SAEW treatments, except for Angelica utilis Makino and kale, whereas SAEW treatment resulted in decreased chromaticity values when compared to the NaOCl treatment. Overall, there was a significant difference (p<0.05) between the efficacy of the SAEW and NaOCl treatments. These results indicate that washing with SAEW is an effective method to reduce the microorganisms and enhance the shelf-life of raw materials of Saengsik; therefore, it can be effectively used to sanitize ingredients of Saengik without affecting the other properties during storage.

This study was conducted to examine the effects of gamma irradiation on the shelf-life and sensory scores of squid Sundae under accelerated storage conditions. Squid Sundae was stored at $37^{\circ}C$ for 35 days following gamma irradiation at doses of 0, 10, and 20 kGy. For total viable cell counts, control and gamma-irradiated (GI) (10 kGy) squid Sundae were already spoiled in 4 days, whereas GI (20 kGy) squid Sundae showed complete suppression of bacterial growth during storage. There were no significant changes in pH values compared to the control. The VBN and TBARS (thiobarbituric acid reactive substance) values of GI (20 kGy) squid Sundae were significantly lower than those of the control. In addition, the induction period of GI (20 kGy) squid Sundae as measured by a Rancimat showed a higher level compared to that of the control. In the sensory evaluation, there were no significant changes between the control and GI samples. These results suggest that a dose of 20 kGy is the optimum and effective dose for preservation of squid Sundae.

The purpose of this study was to examine parents' perceptions towards the importance and performance levels of foodservices quality at kindergartens. The questionnaire was developed to measure the thirty-one quality attributes of foodservice operations. A questionnaire survey was conducted to 500 parents and the return rates were 62.4%. The survey period was from July 15 to August 8, 2008. The parents had a high level of perception toward the need for foodservice, earning 4.46 points out of 5 point. Their perceptions of foodservice quality were examined by six dimensions of importance and performance level. While the parents gave 4 points or greater of 5 points to most quality attributes of importance level, they gave 4 points or less out of 5 points to most quality attributes of performance level. As for the importance and performance level of the quality dimensions of foodservice, parents regarded sanitation as the most important dimension. IPA showed that 'ventilation', 'sanitation of tableware' and 'sanitation of dining tables and chairs' were included as 'focus' areas. The overall satisfaction level for foodservice was 3.74 out of 5 points A higher level of satisfaction was shown at self-operated foodservice system of kindergartens. According to multiple regression analysis, 46.3% of the variance in the respondents' overall satisfaction scores was explained by factors such as food, menu and price, facilities, sanitation, atmosphere and foodservice effects.
