The Study on Identifying Key Biodiversity Areas(KBAs) based on the Flora of Demilitarized Zone(DMZ) and Transboundary in Korea (비무장지대(DMZ: Demilitarized Zone) 및 접경지역의 식물상을 기반으로 한 중요생물다양성지역(KBAs) 설정방안 연구)

  • DMZ 및 접경지역은 지난 60여 년간 인간의 간섭을 받지 않아 세계적으로 우수한 생태계의 보고이며, 백두대간, 도서연안과 함께 한반도 3대 핵심생태축의 하나로서 한반도생태계보전을 위한 가장 중요한 지역이다. 이러한 DMZ 및 접경지역에 대하여 국내적 중요성 인식 제고뿐만 아니라 국제적으로도 중요생물다양성지역(KBAs)으로서의 가치인식을 위해 IUCN에서 제시하는 평가기준을 검토하고 이의 기준을 적용하여 DMZ의 생물다양성에 대한 국제적 가치정도 판단 및 중요생물다양성지역(KBAs)으로서의 보전방안을 수립하고자 한다. 첫째, DMZ 일대를 대상으로 서식하는 자생식물의 분포지역을 파악하여 DMZ 및 접경지역의 식물상은 18과 139속 367종 1아종 44변종 10품종 422분류군으로, 총 138과 613속 1,517종 8아종 217변종 58품종으로 총 1,800분류군으로 확인되었다. 본 연구대상지의 동부지역에서 가장 많은 1,482분류군, 중부지역은 1,225분류군, 서부지역은 1,080분류군으로 가장 적은수의 식물이 확인되었다. 둘째, DMZ 및 접경지역을 대상으로 객관적이고 정량적인 방법을 통한 DMZ 및 접경지역의 중요생물다양성지역(KBAs) 지정기준을 적용하여 개느삼, 금강초롱, 모데미풀 3종을 중요생물다양성지역(KBAs) 후보종으로 선정하였다. 후보종별로 분포예측 결과 전체 면적 $5,270.5km^2$ 중요생물다양성지역(KBAs) 지정을 제안하였다. 셋째, 지정기준을 통하여 선정된 DMZ 및 접경지역에 서식하는 주요 식물에 대한 국제적 가치를 판단하여 우리나라 상황에 맞는 중요생물다양성지역(KBAs)을 적용함으로써 효과적인 관리방안으로 투명하고 체계화된 국제적 기준으로 해당 지역 내의 생물종 다양성을 지속가능하게 보호하기 위한 구체적인 방향 설정 및 관리를 위한 노력이 이루어질 수 있도록 유도 할 수 있다. 수집된 자료를 통하여 중요생물다양성지역(KBAs)에 적합한 종을 중심으로 보호구역을 지정하고 국내적으로 중요한 지역적 멸종위기종에 대한 적용을 추가적으로 진행하여 식물다양성이 중요한 지역의 보호를 위한 우선순위 및 구체적 접근계획을 수립할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다. 국가적인 차원에서 DMZ 및 접경지역의 지속적인 조사를 통하여 중요생물다양성지역(KBAs)기준 적용에 필요한 기초자료를 충분히 수집하고 국내 환경에 부합하는 중요생물다양성지역(KBAs)기준 적용을 통하여 꾸준히 재평가하여 후속연구의 발판을 마련하여야 한다.

Proposal for the groundwater based countermeasures to secure water resources considering regional characteristics of water resources vulnerable areas (국내 수자원 이용 취약지역의 지역 특성을 고려한 지하수 기반 수자원 확보 방안 제시)

  • This study is a follow-up study of vulnerable areas according to the vulnerability assessment of groundwater resource management in Korea. In this study, an optimal operation plan for groundwater resource management was proposed for areas vulnerable to groundwater resource management in Korea derived from previous studies. Prior to presenting the optimal operation plan for groundwater resource management, this study grasped the current status of changes in groundwater level and seawater penetration area for vulnerable areas using MODFLOW, a groundwater flow analysis program. As a result of the analysis using basic data for 10 years from 2009 to 2018, the groundwater level fell and the sea infiltration area increased. The final purpose of this study, the optimal operation plan for groundwater resource management, was selected as a total of four alternatives that can be expected to have positive effects to increase groundwater level and reduce seawater penetration. As a result of analyzing the amount of change in groundwater level and seawater penetration by applying the selected optimal operation plan, positive effects were found in all methods. It is expected that the optimal operation plan for groundwater resource management proposed in this study will be applied not only to vulnerable areas of groundwater resources in Korea but also to areas requiring development to establish efficient groundwater resource management measures.

Study on the Risk Assessment of Collision Accidents Between Island Bridge and Ship Using an Image Processing Method (영상처리기법을 활용한 연도교와 선박간의 충돌사고 위험성 평가에 관한 연구)

  • Tourism projects through islands in the waters of Sinan-gun became active, and as a result, a total of 13 marine bridges connecting islands were completed. However, the marine bridge constructed in the fairway is dangerous for traffic. Particularly, in the case of the marine bridge connecting two islands, the width of the fairway is extremely narrow, therefore the risk is higher. In this study, we evaluated the risk of collision between marine bridge piers and ships using the IALA Waterway Risk Assessment Program (IWRAP), a risk assessment model for port waterways, based on a maritime traffic survey on the coastal bridge in Sinan-gun. The results, indicated that No.1 Sinan bridge had the highest probability of collision and most of the transit ships were coastal passenger ships. In addition, No.1 Sinan bridge was the place where the most collision accidents occurred among the marine bridge piers in the target sea, and the cause this study was analyzed. An analysis of the satellite images of the sea environment of No.1 Sinan bridge using an image processing method, confirmed that obstacles that could not be seen in the chart existed nearby the bridge. As a result, traffic was observed to be concentrated in one direction, unlike two-way traffic, which is a method of inducing traffic of bridges to avoid obstacles. The risk cause analysis method using the image processing technique of this study is expected to be used as a basic research method for analyzing the risk factors of island bridge in the future.

Assessing the Climatic Suitability for the Drywood Termite, Cryptotermes domesticus Haviland (Blattodea: Kalotermitidae), in South Korea (마른나무흰개미(가칭)의 국내 기후적합성 평가)

  • A recent discovery of drywood termites (Cryptotermes domesticus) in a residential facility in Seoul has raised significant concern. This exotic insect species, which can damage timber and wooden buildings, necessitates an immediate investigation of potential infestation. In this study, we assessed the climatic suitability for this termite species using a species distribution modeling approach. Global distribution data and bioclimatic variables were compiled from published sources, and predictive models for climatic suitability were developed using four modeling algorithms. An ensemble prediction was made based on the mean occurrence probability derived from the individual models. The final model suggested that this species could potentially establish itself in tropical coastal regions. While the climatic suitability in South Korea was generally found to be low, a careful investigation is still warranted due to the potential risk of colonization and establishment of this species.

Development and Evaluation of Traffic Conflict Criteria at an intersection (교차로 교통상충기준 개발 및 평가에 관한 연구)

  • For many rears, traffic accident statistics are the most direct measure of safety for a signalized intersection. However it takes more than 2 or 3 yearn to collect certain accident data for adequate sample sizes. And the accident data itself is unreliable because of the difference between accident data recorded and accident that is actually occurred. Therefore, it is rather difficult to evaluate safety for a intersection by using accident data. For these reasons, traffic conflict technique(TCT) was developed as a buick and accurate counter-measure of safety for a intersection. However, the collected conflict data is not always reliable because there is absence of clear criteria for conflict. This study developed objective and accurate conflict criteria, which is shown below based on traffic engineering theory. Frist, the rear-end conflict is regarded, when the following vehicle takes evasive maneuver against the first vehicle within a certain distance, according to car-following theory. Second, lane-change conflict is regarded when the following vehicle takes evasive maneuver against first vehicle which is changing its lane within the minimum stopping distance of the following vehicle. Third, cross and opposing-left turn conflicts are regarded when the vehicle which receives green sign takes evasive maneuver against the vehicle which lost its right-of-way crossing a intersection. As a result of correlation analysis between conflict and accident, it is verified that the suggested conflict criteria in this study ave applicable. And it is proven that estimating safety evaluation for a intersection with conflict data is possible, according to the regression analysis preformed between accident and conflict, EPDO accident and conflict. Adopting the conflict criteria suggested in this study would be both quick and accurate method for diagnosing safety and operational deficiencies and for evaluation improvements at intersections. Further research is required to refine the suggested conflict criteria to extend its application. In addition, it is necessary to develope other types of conflict criteria, not included in this study, in later study.

Analysis of National Vertical Datum Connection Using Tidal Bench Mark (기본수준점을 이용한 국가수직기준연계 분석 연구)

  • Recently, the velocity of sea-level rising has increased due to the global warming and the natural disasters have been occurred many times. Therefore, there are various demands for the integration of vertical reference datums for the ocean and land areas in order to develop a coastal area and prevent a natural disaster. Currently, the vertical datum for the ocean area refers to Local Mean Sea Level(LMSL) and the vertical datum for the land area is based on Incheon Mean Sea Level(IMSL). This study uses 31 points of Tidal Gauge Bench Mark (TGBM) in order to compares and analyzes the geometric heights referring LMSL, IMSL, and the nationally determined geoid surface. 11 points of comparable data are biased more than 10 cm when the geometric heights are compared. It seems to be caused by the inflow of river, the relocation of Tidal Gauge Station, and the topographic change by harbor construction. Also, this study analyze the inclination of sea surface which is the difference between IMSL and LMSL, and it shows the inclination of sea surface increases from the western to southern, and eastern seas. In this study, it is shown that TGBM can be used to integrate vertical datums for the ocean and land areas. In order to integrate the vertical datums, there need more surveying data connecting the ocean to the land area, also cooperation between Korea Hydrographic and Oceanographic Administration and National Geographic Information Institute. It is expected that the integrated vertical datum can be applied to the development of coastal area and the preventative of natural disaster.

The Distribution of Catch by Korean Tuna Purse Seiners in the Western Pacific Ocean (서부태평양(西部太平洋)에서 조업(操業)한 한국(韓國) 다랑어 선망어선(旋網漁船)의 어획량분포(漁獲量分布))

  • Thirty two vessels of the Korean purse seiner had been operated in the Western Pacific Ocean for mainly skipjack tuna, Katsuwonus pelmis LINNAEUS and yellowfin tuna, Thunnus albacares BONNATERRE from January to December in 1991. Among them, fourteen vessels were chosen for this research. During the year their daily operated vessels totalled 4,153 vessels, their total casting net were 2,982 times, in caught 1,798 times, and their total catch was 106,300 M/T. We investigate the distribution of their catch by species, by body size, and by surfance water temperature, and also investigate the distribution of their catch by month and section of the sea, where the sections are separated by 30' of longitude and latitude from the monthly operated sea. We summarize these as follows : 1. The rate of catch by species is 75r/o skipjack tunas, 22.3% yellowfin tunas, and 2.7% bigeye and other tunas. 2. Of the caught skipjack tunas, those of weight 2.0~10kg are most and 68%, those of 1.5~8kg are 11.6%, and those of 3.0~8kg are 9.9%. Of the caught yellowfin tunas, those of weight 5~50kg and 10~50kg are most and 23.1%, and 28.3% respectively, those of 20~50kg are 15.8%, weight 30~50kg are 12.5%, and weight 2~50kg are 9.7%. 3. On the distribution of catch by surface water temperature, 49% of catch are taken between $29.0^{\circ}C$ and $29.4^{\circ}C$, 37% are taken between $29.5^{\circ}C$ and $29.9^{\circ}C$, and about 6% are taken between $28.5^{\circ}C$ and $28.9^{\circ}C$, but very little, only about 1% are taken below $28.4^{\circ}C$ and above $30.5^{\circ}C$. 4. On the distribution of catch by month and section of sea, skipjack tunas are most caught 10,618M/T in August and 10,412M/T in September in the section of Lat. $3^{\circ}{\sim}6^{\circ}S$ and Long. $174^{\circ}E{\sim}176^{\circ}W$, caught much 8,825M/I' in June and 8,057M/T in January in section of Lat. $1^{\circ}S{\sim}3^{\circ}N$ and Long. $142^{\circ}{\sim}151^{\circ}$E, but caught very little in May, November and December in the costal area of New Guinea. Yellowfin tunas are mostly caught 4,070M/T in June in the section of Lat. $0^{\circ}{\sim}4^{\circ}$N and Long. $142^{\circ}{\sim}151^{\circ}$E, and caught much over 2,000M/T in February~April and October~December in the section of coastal area and near islands, but caught very little in distant water area.

The Character of Bogamni group and trends in the surrounding area seen through the stone chamber (석실로 본 나주 복암리 세력과 주변 지역의 동향)

  • This article studied the character of Bogamri group and trends in the surrounding area through recently excavated stone chambers. The first type of stone chamber constructed at Bogamni cemetry was Northen Kyushu style stone chamber tomb with corridor. However, According to recent survey Wa style vertical stone lined tomb had constructed earlier than these stone chamber along the southwest cost. It is likely that the background of these Wa style stone tomb was the beginning of formal diplomatic relations between Baekje and Wa. At first, grave goods as well as burial had been Wa style, but gradually local burial element and mortuary practices added. And large tomb had beginning to appear. The representative tombs are Yeongam Okyari Jangdong tomb and Naju Gaheugni Shinhueng tomb. They were built in the middle of the fifth century. It is most likely that the location was selected with regard to the use or securing of inland waterway. But the next step, Yeongsangang river style stone chamber with corridor had constructed at Jeongchon tomb. That tomb is very close to Bogamni tombs and structure and grave goods are very similar also. So these two groups were considered to be the same community. Hereby, It is believed that the inland waterway using power had been turned over to Bogamni group. Bogamni group had constantly constructed stone chamber until seventh century. This represent that Bogamni group had thrived as a leading force in the Yeongsangang river basin. After under the direct control of Baekje, Bogamni group had continued the close relationship with Wa. For this reason, Bogamni group had influenced southwest cost as well as Yeongsangang river basin. It can be estimated by the Bogamni style stone chamber founded at islands of Shinan.
