Network Analysis on Associative Words and Definitions of 'Electricity' Terminology of Education University Students (교육대학교 학생들의 '전기' 용어의 연상 단어 및 정의에 대한 네트워크 분석)

  • This research aimed to identify core words used as associative words and definitions for expressing 'electricity' terminology and to find how core ones are activated to form a cognitive structure, using network analysis. The participants targeted 83 university freshmen students in the University of Education located in suburbs. Depending on their gender, whether or not they completed physics in high school, the associative words and definitions were analyzed using the network method, classifying two sections: before-lesson and after-lesson. The result is as follows: At before-lesson associative words for 'electricity' terminology, a slightly different network construction was revealed based on their two properties. However, after the class, they showed similar network structure irrespective of their distinctive characteristics. When it comes to other 'electricity' definitions, before taking the course, they had similar network connection across the gender but based on physics education status, there appeared subtle differences. Ultimately, after the class they demonstrated similar network structure regardless of their features. In conclusion, this paper suggests educational implications on network analysis, which covers 'electricity' terminology of university students.

Collection and Extraction Algorithm of Field-Associated Terms (분야연상어의 수집과 추출 알고리즘)

  • VSField-associated term is a single or compound word whose terms occur in any document, and which makes it possible to recognize a field of text by using common knowledge of human. For example, human recognizes the field of document such as or , a field name of text, when she encounters a word 'Pitcher' or 'election', respectively We Proposes an efficient construction method of field-associated terms (FTs) for specializing field to decide a field of text. We could fix document classification scheme from well-classified document database or corpus. Considering focus field we discuss levels and stability ranks of field-associated terms. To construct a balanced FT collection, we construct a single FTs. From the collections we could automatically construct FT's levels, and stability ranks. We propose a new extraction algorithms of FT's for document classification by using FT's concentration rate, its occurrence frequencies.

Test Environment Factors Influencing Word Association about Science Terminology in Students (과학용어에 대한 학생들의 단어 연상에 영향을 미치는 검사 환경 요인)

  • The list of words and the semantic structure that connects them have been important to the areas of psychology, psychoanalysis, linguistics, and education. Some researchers in constructivist perspectives of science education also have interests in the structure of science concepts expressed by science terminologies. The purpose of this paper was to investigate the test environment factors influencing the word association test as a method to identify students' semantic structures for science terminologies. We set up four variables that are possibly considered in recognizing a word as having scientific meaning. The four variables include: noticing whether stimulus words are science terminologies or not, presenting science terminologies and everyday words alternately, whether presider is science teacher or not, and whether students have learned the concepts or not. In comparing the test results of the experimental group and the control group, we have checked whether each variable influences the test result or not. Stimulus words included nine science terminologies containing both ordinary and scientific meanings, and subjects included 282 middle school students. The degree of recognizing science terminology as having scientific meaning was found to increase only when stimulus words were noticed as science terminologies. In the case of the remaining variables, there was no difference between the control group and the experimental group.

  • 문서에 여러 가지 화제가 혼합되어 있는 문서에서 화제의 실마리 부분을 특정화하여 각 화제별 단락을 추출하는 기술은 정보검색 분야에서 중요한 역할을 담당하는 기술이다. 잘 정의된 분야체계에 따라 구축된 분야연상어를 이용하여 단락분할을 시도한다. 분야연상어는 특정한 분야를 정확하게 연상할 수 있는 단어로서 잘 분류된 문서 컬렉션에서 구축할 수 있다. 이 분야연상어를 이용하여 문서를 관련된 분야변로 추출하여 의미기반 단락추출 방법을 제안한다. 화제의 계속성에 주목하여 분야연상어의 수준(범위)이나 연속출현성에 의해 계산된 계속도에 의해 화제의 실마리를 추적하고, 화제의 전환성을 고려한 방법을 제안한다. 문서 내 각 화제의 단락구분을 명확히 하여, 단락을 화제분야별로 추출하는 방법을 제안한다. 50문서를 실험한 결과 82%의 정확율과 63%의 재현율을 얻어 실용성을 기대할 수 있다.

  • Foreign language learners want to remember newly learned vocabularies for as long as possible. As demand for learning English as a second language grows, effective ways of memorizing English vocabularies also attract much interest so that various methods and apparatus are developed in order to support effective memorization. In this research, we introduce a new way of memorizing English vocabularies and evaluate the performance compared to an existing qualified method. Our study result shows that learners who memorize English words using our suggested method maintained a higher retention rate than those who studied using the existing method. From this research, we expect to gain new insights of effective way in learning English vocabularies.

Expression of Anthropomorphized Animal Characters in Animations -focused on the Animation of America- (애니메이션에 등장하는 의인화된 동물캐릭터의 표현 -미국 애니메이션 중심으로-)

  • This study analyzed the influences of human personalities and physiognomies on anthropomorphized animal characters and the relationship between the personalities and images of anthropomorphized animal characters and the associated images of real animals when animations expressed the animals. At first, the study classified animals who often appeared in animations, selected the representative characters whose personalities were well expressed, visualized them and rated them with words expressing personalities. Then, it rated personalities which were associated with the name of each animal(word) with words expressing personalities and analyzed the relationship the images and word association. The study results indicates that the similarity of two tests is very high and the images of animals which are perceived by human are anthropomorphized and expressed with familiar images for human. The study suggests expressing appropriate personalities when expressing anthropomorphized animal characters in animations.

  • 인지 어휘 유형(cognitive dictionary)이란 단어 연상의 반응 어휘를 인지 유형에 따라 분류, 분석하는 것을 가리킨다. 인지 어휘 유형 개념을 McNeill의 언어 발달 연구에 준하여 논의하였다. 즉 아동의 어의(語義) 발달은 자작문(自作文) 형식(形式) 표현에서 시작되어 어휘 사용에 이른다는 것이다. 한편 Moran은 범세계적으로 유아들의 인지 어휘 유형은 단어의 동작적(動作的) 특성에 주로 의거한다는 것을 발견했는데 이는 언어의 효시에 관한 Piaget 나 Bruner의 이론과 일치하는 것이다. Moran의 인지 어휘 유형의 추가 개념은 Bruner의 심상(心象)(ikonic representation)에 의한 관계, 기능적 관계 (functional representation), 논리적(logical)관계를 포함한 단어의 연합 관계에 반영시켰다.

  • 디자인 개발단계에서 가장 창조적인 부분은 아이디어 발상 단계로 아이디어를 구체화하는데 매우 중요한 부분을 차지한다. 많은 그래픽 디자이너들이 활용하고 있는 연상자극법이나 발상전환법, 정보조합법 등은 발상과정에서 초기 키워드를 제시하는데 효과적이지만 컨셉까지 도출해내는 과정에서 한계성이 있다. 컨셉으로 발전시키기 위해서는 핵심 키워드도 중요하지만 문장으로 정리되어야 보다 효과적인 비주얼로 표현할 수 있기 때문이다. 본 연구는 키워드를 문장으로 만들어내는 발상툴에 대한 것으로 국문수사법을 활용하여 명제를 만들고 연상단어를 명제에 대입해 문장으로 만들어 내는 발상법을 제시한다.

Analysis of students' word association about the science terminologies used in the 'Force and Motion' unit in middle school science textbook (중학교 '힘과 운동' 단원에 사용된 과학 용어에 대한 학생들의 단어 연상 분석)

  • This study was conducted to inquire the semantic structure with science terminology used in middle school science class, and based on this, we wanted to look for the way to increase effectiveness of science teaching. In this study, we extracted twenty-six science terminologies used in "Force and Motion" unit in middle school science textbook, and administered word association test using the 26 science terminologies to 316 middle school students. As the result, we found that students had a divergent semantic structure to given science terminology, and there were cases to be interpreted as different meaning with teacher's intention. Also, we identified the terminologies which were not familiar to middle school students. It was found that female students were more familiar with science termilology than male students, and there were differences between schools.
