Synthesis of Ocean Wave Models and Simulation Using GPU (바다물결 모형의 합성 및 GPU를 이용한 시뮬레이션)

  • Among many other CG generated natural scenes, the representation of ocean surfaces is one of the most complicated and time-consuming problem because of its large extent and complex surface movement. We present a hybrid method to represent and animate unbound deep-water ocean surfaces by utilizing graphics processor as both simulation and rendering core. Our technique is mainly based on spectral approaches that generate a high-detailed height field using Fourier transform on a 2D regular grid. Additionally, we incorporate Gerstner model and generate low-detailed height field on a 2D projected grid in order to represent large waves and main structure of ocean surface. There is no interruption between CPU and GPU, and no need to transfer simulation results from the system memory to graphics hardware because the entire simulation and rending processes are done on graphics processor. As a result we can synthesize and render realistic water surfaces in real-time. Proposed techniques are readily adoptable to real-time applications such as computer games that have heavy work load on CPU but still demand plausible natural scenes.

  • This research first reviewed and analysed the current domestic situation of the voluntary agreement implementation and then it developed the policy implementation scenarios which will be applied to the model, KORTEM_ V.2. The model, consisted with 83 industries and commodities, examined the economic and environmental impacts of this policy instrument. Depending on the efforts of participating sectors and agents for fuel substitution and energy efficiency improvement, it has been evaluated that the voluntary agreement could be the "no-regret" policy. In other words, if the participating sectors and agents can achieve the voluntary energy conservation and emission reduction target without the negative impact on output level, the reduction of national emission will be achieved by creating the economic benefit, simultaneously. Therefore, for the successful implementation of voluntary agreement, this study emphasized the importance of expansion and strengthening of the current financial and institutional support for participating sectors and agents.

Comparison of Different Policy Measures for Fostering Climate Friendly Fuel Technology Applying a Computable General Equilibrium Model (기후친화적 연료 생산 확대를 위한 정책 수단간 일반균형효과의 비교)

  • Although coal has been utilized as major fuel, it is known as 'most climate unfriendly' fuel. Carbon tax or tradable permit policy has been discussed as major measure for reducing production and consumption of coal, but it might be more efficient to remove subsidy on coal production and consumption. This study examines economic and environmental effects of recycling revenue from reducing subsidy on the use of coal to foster climate friendly fuel (ligneous biomass) by price subsidy or increased public expenditure. A static CGE model was applied to analyze the welfare consequences and economic impacts of two policy measures. The result shows that price subsidy policy is more desirable than creation of public demand in terms of welfare as well as overall economic impacts.

A Real Business Cycle Model to Study the Effect of Overseas Oil Resource Development on the Korean Economy (실물경기변동 모형을 이용한 해외석유가스 개발사업의 경제적 효과분석)

  • The development of overseas resource is a driving force to secure the energy security in Korea with low sufficiency rate of energy. This paper analyzes the effect of overseas oil resource development on the economy by presenting a real business cycle model with consolidated energy price index. A linear-quadratic dynamic programming is adopted to raise computational transparency and efficiency. The analysis shows that the overseas oil resource development project during 2010 and 2012 decreases the energy price by 1.2% per annum which effect is equivalent to the positive 0.47% to the GDP. The implication calls for steady and robust support for overseas resource development projects to enhance energy resilience.

  • ITS (Intelligent transportation systems) collects real-time traffic data, and accumulates vest historical data. But tremendous historical data has not been managed and employed efficiently. With the introduction of data management systems like ADMS (Archived Data Management System), the potentiality of huge historical data dramatically surfs up. However, traffic data in any data management system includes missing values in nature, and one of major obstacles in applying these data has been the missing data because it makes an entire dataset useless every so often. For these reasons, imputation techniques take a key role in data management systems. To address these limitations, this paper presents a promising imputation technique which could be mounted in data management systems and robustly generates the estimations for missing values included in historical data. The developed model, based on NPR (Non-Parametric Regression) approach, employs various traffic data patterns in historical data and is designated for practical requirements such as the minimization of parameters, computational speed, the imputation of various types of missing data, and multiple imputation. The model was tested under the conditions of various missing data types. The results showed that the model outperforms reported existing approaches in the side of prediction accuracy, and meets the computational speed required to be mounted in traffic data management systems.

Pace and Facial Element Extraction in CCD-Camera Images by using Snake Algorithm (스네이크 알고리즘에 의한 CCD 카메라 영상에서의 얼굴 및 얼굴 요소 추출)

  • 최근 IT 산업이 급성장하면서 화상 회의, 게임, 채팅 등에서의 아바타(avatar) 제어를 위한 자연스러운 인터페이스 기술이 요구되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 동적 윤곽선 모델(active contour models; snakes)을 이용하여 복잡한 배경이 있는 컬러 CCD 카메라 영상에서 얼굴과 눈, 입, 눈썹, 코 등의 얼굴 요소에 대해 윤곽선을 추출하거나 위치를 파악하는 방법을 제안한다. 일반적으로 스네이크 알고리즘은 잡음에 민감하고 초기 모델을 어떻게 설정하는가에 따라 추출 성능이 크게 좌우되기 때문에 주로 단순한 배경의 영상에서 정면 얼굴의 추출에 사용되어왔다 본 연구에서는 이러한 단점을 파악하기 위해, 먼저 YIQ 색상 모델의 I 성분을 이용한 색상 정보와 차 영상 정보를 사용하여 얼굴의 최소 포함 사각형(minimum enclosing rectangle; MER)을 찾고, 이 얼굴 영역 내에서 기하학적인 위치 정보와 에지 정보를 이용하여 눈, 입, 눈썹, 코의 MER을 설정한다. 그런 다음, 각 요소의 MER 내에서 1차 미분과 2차 미분에 근거한 내부 에너지와 에지에 기반한 영상 에너지를 이용한 스네이크 알고리즘을 적용한다. 이때, 에지 영상에서 얼굴 주변의 복잡한 잡음을 제거하기 위하여 색상 정보 영상과 차 영상에 각각 모폴로지(morphology)의 팽창(dilation) 연산을 적용하고 이들의 AND 결합 영상에 팽창 연산을 다시 적용한 이진 영상을 필터로 사용한다. 총 7명으로부터 양 눈이 보이는 정면 유사 방향의 영상을 20장씩 취득하여 총 140장에 대해 실험한 결과, MER의 오차율은 얼굴, 눈, 입에 대해 각각 6.2%, 11.2%, 9.4%로 나타났다. 또한, 스네이크의 초기 제어점을 얼굴은 44개, 눈은 16개, 입은 24개로 지정하여 MER추출에 성공한 영상에 대해 스네이크 알고리즘을 수행한 결과, 추출된 영역의 오차율은 각각 2.2%, 2.6%, 2.5%로 나타났다.해서 Template-based reasoning 예를 보인다 본 방법론은 검색노력을 줄이고, 검색에 있어 Feasibility와 Admissibility를 보장한다.매김할 수 있는 중요한 계기가 될 것이다.재무/비재무적 지표를 고려한 인공신경망기법의 예측적중률이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 로지스틱회귀 분석의 재무적 지표모형은 훈련, 시험용이 84.45%, 85.10%인 반면, 재무/비재무적 지표모형은 84.45%, 85.08%로서 거의 동일한 예측적중률을 가졌으나 인공신경망기법 분석에서는 재무적 지표모형이 92.23%, 85.10%인 반면, 재무/비재무적 지표모형에서는 91.12%, 88.06%로서 향상된 예측적중률을 나타내었다.ting LMS according to increasing the step-size parameter $\mu$ in the experimentally computed. learning curve. High-resolution Urban Flood Modeling using Cellular Automata-based WCA2D in the Oncheon-cheon Catchment in Busan, South Korea (셀룰러 오토마타 기반 WCA2D 모형을 이용한 부산 온천천 유역 고해상도 도시 침수 해석)

  • As climate change increasesthe frequency and risk of flooding in major cities around theworld, the importance ofsimulation technology that can quickly and accurately analyze high-resolution 2D flooding information in large-scale areasis emerging. The physically-based approaches based on the Shallow Water Equations (SWE) often requires huge computer resources hindering high-resolution flood prediction. This study investigated the theoretical background of Weighted Cellular Automata 2D (WCA2D), which simulates spatio-temporal changes offlooding using transition rules and weight-based system, and assessed feasibility to simulate pluvial flooding in the urbancatchment, theOncheon-cheon catchmentinBusan, SouthKorea.Inaddition,the computation performancewas compared by applying versions using OpenComputing Language (OpenCL) andOpenMulti-Processing (OpenMP) parallel computing techniques. Simulationresultsshowed that the maximuminundation depthmap by theWCA2Dmodel cansimilarly reproduce historical inundation maps. Also, it can precisely simulate spatio-temporal changes of flooding extent in the urban catchment with complex topographic characteristics. For computation efficiency, parallel computing schemes, theOpenCLandOpenMP, improved the computation by about 8~14 and 5~6 folds respectively, compared to the sequential computation.

Internal Wave Generation with Level Set Parallel Finite Element Approach (레블셋 병렬유한요소 기법을 이용한 파랑 내부 조파)

  • Recent development of computing power and theoretical advances in computational fluid dynamics have made possible numerical simulations of water waves with full Navier-Stokes equations. In this study, an internal wave maker using the mass source function approach was combined with the level set finite element method for generation of waves. The model is first applied to the two-dimensional linear wave generation and propagation. Then, it is applied to the three-dimensional simulation of the same problem. To effectively utilize computational resources and enhance the speed of execution, parallel algorithms are developed and applied for the three-dimensional problem. The results of numerical simulations are compared with theoretical values and good agreements are observed.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest a program for improvement of the mathematical creativity of mathematical gifted children in the elementary gifted class and to examine the effect of developed program. Gifted education program is developed through analyzing relevant literatures and materials. This program is based on the operation bingo game related to the area of number and operation, which accounts for the largest portion in the elementary mathematics. According to this direction, the mathematically gifted educational program has been developed. According to the results which examine the effectiveness of the creative problem solving by the developed program, students' performance ability has been gradually improved by feeding back and monitoring their problem solving process continuously.

An Advanced Parallel Join Algorithm for Managing Data Skew on Hypercube Systems (하이퍼큐브 시스템에서 데이타 비대칭성을 고려한 향상된 병렬 결합 알고리즘)

  • In this paper, we propose advanced parallel join algorithm to efficiently process join operation on hypercube systems. This algorithm uses a broadcasting method in processing relation R which is compatible with hypercube structure. Hence, we can present optimized parallel join algorithm for that hypercube structure. The proposed algorithm has a complete solution of two essential problems - load balancing problem and data skew problem - in parallelization of join operation. In order to solve these problems, we made good use of the characteristics of clustering effect in the algorithm. As a result of this, performance is improved on the whole system than existing algorithms. Moreover. new algorithm has an advantage that can implement non-equijoin operation easily which is difficult to be implemented in hash based algorithm. Finally, according to the cost model analysis. this algorithm showed better performance than existing parallel join algorithms.
