A Study on the Analysis of Surface Characteristics According to intermittent Ratio of Discontinuous Grinding Wheel with Multi-Porous Grooves (다기공 연삭숫돌의 단속비에 의한 표면특성 분석에 관한 연구)

  • Crinding of stainless steel, aluminium alloy, copper alloy, and titanium alloy are difficult to obtain high quality finish, because they have the mechanical properties such as low hardness, high toughness. The low hardness and the high toughness result in the loading of wheel and the poor surface finish. In order to perform the grinding operations for these sorts of materials easily, the discontinuous grinding wheel wiht multi-porous grooves has been newly developed. The multi-porous grooves inthe discontinuous grinding wheel were formed during grinding wheel manufacturing process. In this paper, discontinuous grinding wheels having intermittent ratio 0.66, 0.81 and number of grooves 18,32 have been manufactured and grinding surface characteristics of these grinding wheels for SUS304 have been analyzed. Discontinuous grinding temperature according to intermittent ratiohas been also estimated by simulation. The discontinuous grinding wheels increase the grinding performance considerably. It is desirable to use the discontinuous grinding wheel in grinding the materials with high efficiency and accuracy.

Thermal Characteristic Analysis of a High-Precision Centerless Grinding Machine for Machining Ferrules (페룰 가공용 초정밀 무심 연삭기의 열 특성 해석)

  • To perform the finish grinding process of ferrules which are widely used as fiber optic connectors, a high-precision centerless grinding machine is necessary. The high-precision centerless grinding machine is consisted of the hydrostatic GW and RW spindle systems, hydrostatic RW feeding mechanism, RW swivel mechanism, on-machine GW and RW dressers, and concrete-filled steel bed. In this study, the thermal characteristics of the high-precision centerless grinding machine such as the temperature distribution, temperature rise and thermal deformation, are estimated based on the virtual prototype of the grinding machine and the heat generation rates of heat sources related to the machine operation conditions. The reliability of the predicted results is demonstrated by the temperature characteristics measured from the physical prototype. Especially, the predicted and measured results show the fact that the high-precision centerless grinding machine has very stable thermal characteristics.

  • This paper deals with monitoring of grinding wheel wear in grinding process. A monitoring system is developed in which a laser scanning micrometer is used to measure the circumferential shape as well as the axial shape of grinding wheel. The monitoring system is applied to grinding machines. The experiment results show that the monitoring system is useful not only for monitoring the amount of wear in grinding wheel but also for measuring the apparent diameter of the grinding wheel.

  • A weaving machine for texture industry uses a lot of needles and the nib of these needles is necessary to be kept with sharp edge. The re-grinding of the needle by a special purpose of the grinding wheel can be selected for achieving this aim. This study focused on the manufacture and performance assessment the special grinding wheel. A forming mold for the grinding wheel was designed and a sintering process for furnace process control was established. Manufactured wheels were tested for determining suitable grade of the wheel. The selection of optimal grinding conditions was achieved by a response surface method and a genetic algorithm.

Selection of CBN-Wheel for Internal Grinding of LM-Guide (LM가이드 내경연삭을 위한 CBN 숫돌 선정)

  • In this paper, to choose the optimum CBN wheel for Internal Grinding at LM Guide, among 7 types of CBN-wheels, the 2 types of CBN-wheels, which were the macrofracture CBN wheel and the microfracture CBN wheel, have been used, and the SCM420H have been used as the workpiece. The working conditions in the grinding experiments were depth-of-cut, table speed, and spindle speed for 4 types of the CBN grinding wheels, 2 types of the lubrications. By the experiments, the loading effect of the microfracture types of the CBN-wheel needed a short dressing interval and resulted in grinding wheel wear and bad surface roughness. However, a macrofracture type of CBN-wheel with the concentration of 100, CB120Q100V showed the best surface roughness quality at a low table speed for internal grinding at LM-guide.

  • A high-precision centerless grinding machine has been recognized as a core equipment performing the finish outer-diameter grinding process of ferrules which are widely used as fiber optic connectors. In this study, in order to realize the high-precision centerless grinding machine, the structural characteristic analysis and evaluation are carried out on the virtual prototype consisted of the steel bed, hydrostatic GW and RW spindle systems, hydrostatic RW feed mechanism, RW swivel mechanism, and on-machine GW and RW dressers. The loop stiffnesses of centerless grinding machine are estimated based on the relative deformations between GW and RW caused by the grinding forces. And the simulated results illustrate that the concrete-filled bed has the considerable effect on the improvement of the structural stiffness of centerless grinding machine.

  • $WC-3%(Cr_3C_2)-2%(Mo_2C)-12%Ni$ carbides were ground with three different types of electroplated diamond wheels with respect to grain friability. The grinding ratio in the case of the highest toughness grains, A becomes the highest at the workpiece speeds of 40 and 70mm/min exhibiting larger effect with smaller workpiece speed. The grinding ratio with the medium toughness grain is higher than that of grain A at higher workpiece speeds than 100mm/min. The surface roughness becomes smaller with increasing the grain friability The increasing rate on surface roughness with the increase of workpiece speed becomes higher with using the grain of lower friability.

연삭가공용 전문가 시스템 개발에 관한 연구

  • 이 연구에서는 연삭 전문가 시스템을 개발하기 위한 기본적인 개념을 소개하고, 전문가 시스템 개발용 셀인 CLIPS를 이용해서 짠 프로그램을 소개한다. 여기서 만들어진 연삭 전문가 시스템은 초보자라도 현장에서 연삭작업을 할 경우 실제도움이 되도록 숫돌의 선택, 가공조건의 결정, 문제점의 점검 등을 고려하였고, 사용자가 사용하기 쉽게 대화형으로 프로그램을 개발하였다, 또한 수정, 확장이 용이한 전문가 시스템의 개발이 목적이다.

  • A problem in the grinding process using the machining center(MC) with a small diametric wheel is the machining error due to due to decrease of quill diameter. In this paper, a side-cut grinding is performed with a vitrified bonded CBN wheel by the MC, and the relation between grinding force and machining error for grinding conditions is investigated experimentally. It is show that the normal force has a significant effect on the machining error.

  • 광통신 커넥터 핵심 부품인 페룰(Ferrule)은 광통신의 주요한 커넥터 부품으로 사용되며 슬리브내에서 페룰을 서로 맞대어 광섬유론 정렬하는데 사용이 된다. 광섬유의 맞대기가 정확하고 광학 특성에 영향을 주지 않도록 하기 위해서는 페룰의 외경과 표면의 초정밀 가공이 주요한 품질 특성이 된다. 페룰은 고경도 난삭재의 소구경 세라믹 재질이며 이의 가공을 위해서는 다이아몬드 연삭숫돌을 이용한 무심연삭(centerless grinding) 장치를 사용한다.(중략)
