Machining of Micro-scale Shapes using Micro-EDM Process (Micro-EDM 공정을 이용한 미세 형상 가공)

  • With development of high advanced technologies and skills, micro machining techniques also are being more functional and smaller. Some of the recently developed micro machining technologies are micro drilling, micro EDM, WEDG, LBM, micro milling, micro UVM etc. In these micro machining techniques, Micro -EDM is generally used for machining micro holes, pockets, and micro structures in difficult-cut-materials. For machining micro structures, first of all, tool electrode should be fabricated by WEDG process. In micro-EDM, parameters such as peak current, pulse width, duration time are very important to fabricate the tool electrode and micro structures. Developed experimental equipments are composed of RLC circuit with PWM. In this paper, using developed micro EDM machine, the characteristics of micro electro discharge machining are investigated at micro holes, slot, and pocket machining etc. Also the trends of tool wear are investigated in case of hole and slot machining.

  • 근년에 들어 우리 인류 사회는 우주 개발, 원자력 산업, 일렉트로닉스 산업 분야등에 걸친 눈부신 발전을 이루게 되며서 보다 극한적인 가혹한 환경 조건하에서도 뛰어난 내열성, 내식성, 기계적 강도, 전.자기적 특성등을 가지며 칫수의 정밀도가 좋은 재료를 필수로 하게 되었다. 이에따라 최근 새로이 등장하게 된것이 전기.전자 기능 등의 기능성을 지닌 기능 재료, 내열 구조 재료, 고강도 재료 등으로서 우수한 성능를 갖는 화인 세라믹스인데 이는 요즘 전세계적 으로 미래지향적 고부가가치의 전기.전자 부품, 기계 부품, 광학 부품 및 그 밖의 기타 첨단 산업 분야의 전반에 걸쳐 주목받고 있는 신소재이다. 즉, 종래의 전통적인 세라믹스로서 인식 되어 왔던 세라믹스 재료를 전혀 새로운 생각을 갖고 미래지향적 신소재로 만든 화인 세라믹스 재료가 등장하게 된것이다. 그러나 화인 세라믹스 부품의 제조에 있어서는 소결과정에서의 재료 수축을 피할 수 없는바, 단순 성형, 소결 과정으로만 끝나 실용화되는 제품을 제외한 정밀 기계, 구조용 부품등으로의 활용을 위해선 최종적인 재료의 정도를 내기 위한 기계 제거가공의 후가공 공정을 필수로한다.

  • As the optical communication industry is developed, the demand of optical communication part is increasing. ZrO$_2$ ceramic ferrule is very important part which can determines the transmission efficiency and information quality to connect the optical fibers. In general ZrO$_2$ ceramic ferrule is manufactured by grinding process because the demands precision is very high. And the co-axle grinding process of ZrO$_2$ ceramic ferrule is to make its concentricity all of uniform before centerless grinding. This paper deals with the analysis of the process parameters such as grinding wheel speed, grinding feedrate and regulating wheel speed as influential factors, on the concentricity and surface finish developed based on Taguchi's experimental design methods. Taguchi s tools such as orthogonal array, signal-to-noise ratio, factor effect analysis, etc. have been used for this purpose optimal condition has been found out. Thus, if possible be finding highly efficient and quality grinding conditions.

A noncontact optical roughness measurement technique of ground surface by light scattering (광산란을 이용한 연삭표면의 비접촉식 광학적 조도측정기술)

  • Described is method for development of an optical roughness measurement sensor for in-subequality assurance in the precision grinding. Main approach is made based upon the Brckmann's light scattering theory, in which general solutions of the optical scattering behaviour are given under many simplifying assumptions on the model of the surfaces illuminated. For the ground surface, the assumptions are verified through computer simulation and experimental work in order to examine the validity of Beckmann's theory on predicting the optical responses according to the roughness variation. As a result, an optical monitoring strategy is derived which can evaluate the roughness value of the ground surface by statistically detecting the pattern of intensity distribution of the scattered light. Finally, the strategy is proven by comparing with the results using the stylus method.

  • 고품위의 동력전달 장치와 같은 고정밀 기능 부품들은 보다 높은 비강도, 고경도, 내마모성 및 내식성을 가져야 하며, 특히 소재의 마찰, 마모 특성은 기아제품 등의 수명, 정밀도 및 에너지 손실을 좌우하는 것으로서 물성의 열화를 극복할 수 있는 소재의 개발이 요구되고 있다. 지난 수년동안 금속기지에 $Al_2O_3$나 SiC등의 보강재를 첨가하여 복합재의 응착 및 연삭마모에 대한 저항성을 향상시키는 시도를 하고 있다. 주로 제조비용이 낮고 거의 등방적인 성질을 가지며 가공성이 좋은 입자 보강 복합재료에 대한 연구가 지배적이었지만, 입자 보강 복합재료의 경우 강도 및 탄성계수의 향상 정도가 적다는 단점을 지니고 있다. 본 연구에서는 분말야금법을 이용하여 금속기지에 세라믹상으로 SiC 입자 및 휘스커가 첨가된 복합재를 제조하여 제조공정변수에 따라 마모거동을 pin-on-disk 형태의 마모시험기에서 실험하였으며, 주사전자현미경으로 마모표면관찰 등으로 복합재의 마모기구를 연구하였다.

Modeling of flexible disk grinding process for automation of hand-grinding (수동연삭공정 자동화를 위한 유연성 디스크가공 모델링)

  • A flexible disk grinding process model has been implemented with varying disk orientation with respect to workpiece surface along with variable feed rate. Before implementing arbitrary disk orientation and translation, disk angle and feed rate variation have been implemented. The disk angle was changed with constant angular velocity only in the entrance stage. The effect of the variable feed rate was added to the geometric schematic. The feed rate was changed either from the entrance stage or from the between edges stage and process performance was evaluated. Effect of changing both angle end feed rate has been also analyzed. Disk trend showing actual disk deflection has also been visualized.

  • Fault diagnosis technique in machining system which is one of engineering techniques absolutely necessary to automation of manufacturing system has been proposed. As a whole, diagnosis process is explained by two steps: sensor data acquisition and reasoning current state of system with the given sensor data. Flexible disk grinding process implemented in milling machine was employed in order to obtain empirical manufacturing process information. Resistance force data during machining were acquired using tool dynamometer known as sensor which is comparably accurate and reliable in operation. Tool status during the process was analyzed using influnece diagram assigning probability from the statistical analysis procedure.

A study on the grinding machining of engineering ceramics with high efficiency using "In-process dressing" (연속 드레싱 공정을 도입한 엔지니어링 세라믹스의 고능률적 연삭 가공에 관한 연구)

  • Engineering ceramics have some excellent properties as the material for the mechanical components. It is, however, very difficult to grind ceramics with high efficiency because of their high strength, hardness and brittleness. In this paper, experiments are carried out to obtain the effect of "In-process dressing" to grind the Engineering ceramics with high efficiency. To save running time for dressing process and obtain restraint effect of diamond grain wear, "In-process dressing" system using WA stick type honing stone is proposed. Representative Engineering ceramics, such as AI$_{2}$O$_{3}$, Si$_{3}$N$_{4}$, are ground with diamond wheel. Also bending strength test is carried out to check upward tendancy of mecahnical properties as the result of machining defact restraint through the grinding machining method using "In-process dressing" process. Some results obtained in this study provide useful information to attain the high efficiency grinding and the high mechanical properties of Engineering ceramics.rties of Engineering ceramics.

  • In recently, the demand of cover-glass is increased because smart phone, tablet pc, and electrical device has become widely used. The display of mobile device is enlarged, so it is necessary to have a high strength against the external force such as contact or falling. In fabrication process of cover-glass, a grinding process is very important process to obtain high strength of glass. Conventional grinding process using a grinding wheel is caused such as a scratch, chipping, notch, and micro-crack on a surface. In this paper, polishing system using a abrasive film was developed for a grinding of mobile cover-glass. To evaluate structural stability of the designed system, finite element model of the polishing system is generated, and multi-body dynamic analysis of abrasive film polishing machine is proposed. As a result of the analysis, stress and displacement analysis of abrasive film polishing system are performed, and using laser displacement sensor, structural stability of abrasive film polishing system is confirmed by measuring displacement.
