  • Few studies have been systematically pursued on a multimedia data mining in despite of the over-whelming amounts of multimedia data by the development of computer capacity, storage technology and Internet. Based on the preliminary image processing and content-based image retrieval technology, this paper presents the methods for discovering association rules from recurrent items with spatial relationships in huge data repositories. Furthermore, multimedia mining algorithm is proposed to find implicit association rules among objects of which content-based descriptors such as color, texture, shape and etc. are recurrent and of which descriptors have spatial relationships. The algorithm with recurrent items in images shows high efficiency to find set of frequent items as compared to the Apriori algorithm. The multimedia association-rules algorithm is specially effective when the collection of images is homogeneous and it can be applied to many multimedia-related application fields.

  • As a semantic data is widely used in various applications such as Knowledge Bases and Semantic Web, needs for effective search over a large amount of RDF data have been increasing. Previous keyword search methods based on distinct root semantics only retrieve a set of answer trees having different root nodes. Thus, they often find answer trees with similar meanings or low query relevance together while those with the same root node cannot be retrieved together even if they have different meanings and high query relevance. We propose a new method to find diverse and relevant answers to the query by permitting duplication of root nodes among them. We present an efficient query processing algorithm using path indexes to find top-k answers given a maximum amount of root duplication a set of answer trees can have. We show by experiments using a real dataset that the proposed approach can produce effective answer trees which are less redundant in their content nodes and more relevant to the query than the previous method.

  • Data mining is the representative analysis methodology in the era of big data, and is the process to analyze a massive volume database and summarize it into meaningful information. Association rule technique finds the relationship among several items in huge database using the interestingness measures such as support, confidence, lift, etc. But these interestingness measures cannot be used to establish a causality relationship between antecedent and consequent item sets. Moreover, we can not know association direction by them. This paper propose causally confirmed association thresholds to compensate for these problems, and then check the three conditions of interestingness measures. The comparative studies with basic association thresholds, causal association thresholds, and causally confirmed association thresholds are shown by simulation studies. The results show that causally confirmed association thresholds are better than basic and causal association thresholds.

  • Among data mining techniques, the association rule is the most recently developed technique, and it finds the relevance between two items in a large database. And it is directly applied in the field because it clearly quantifies the relationship between two or more items. When we determine whether an association rule is meaningful, we utilize interestingness measures such as support, confidence, and lift. Interestingness measures are meaningful in that it shows the causes for pruning uninteresting rules statistically or logically. But the criteria of these measures are chosen by experiences, and the number of useful rules is hard to estimate. If too many rules are generated, we cannot effectively extract the useful rules. In this paper, we designed a variety of non-linear regression equations considering all association thresholds between the number of rules and three interestingness measures. And then we diagnosed multi-collinearity and autocorrelation problems, and used analysis of variance results and adjusted coefficients of determination for the best model through numerical experiments.

  • Association rule mining is the method to quantify the relationship between each set of items in a large database. One of the well-studied problems in data mining is exploration for association rules. There are three primary quality measures for association rule, support and confidence and lift. We generate some association rules using confidence. Confidence is the most important measure of these measures, but it is an asymmetric measure and has only positive value. Thus we can face with difficult problems in generation of association rules. In this paper we apply the similarity measures by probabilistic interestingness measure to find a solution to this problem. The comparative studies with support, two confidences, lift, and some similarity measures by probabilistic interestingness measure are shown by numerical example. As the result, we knew that the similarity measures by probabilistic interestingness measure could be seen the degree of association same as confidence. And we could confirm the direction of association because they had the sign of their values.

  • An association rule discovery, a technique to analyze the stored data in databases to discover potential information, has been a popular topic in stream data system. Most of the previous researches are concerned to single stream data. However, this approach may ignore in mining to multidimensional stream data. In this paper, we study the techniques discovering the association rules to multidimensional stream data. And we propose a AR-MS method reflecting the characteristics of stream data since make the summarization information by one data scan and discovering the association rules for significant rare data that appear infrequently in the database but are highly associated with specific event. Also, AR-MS method can discover the maximal frequent item of multidimensional stream data by using the summarization information. Through analysis and experiments, we show that AR-MS method is superior to other previous methods.

  • Association rule mining searches for interesting relationships among items in a given database. Currently, study of the constraint-based association rules are underway by many researchers. When we create relation rule, we can often find a lot of rules. Of this rules, we can find rule that direct relativity by marginally conditional variables (intervening variable, external variable) does not exist. In such a case, this association rule can be considered insignificant. In this study, we want to study for association rules creation using marginally conditional variable. The result of this study can find meaningless association rules. Also, we can understand more exactly the relationships between variables.

  • Social network services(SNS) including Twitter and Facebook are good resources to extract various issues like public interest, trend and topic. This paper proposes a method to extract query-related issues by calculating relatedness between terms in Twitter. As a term that frequently appears near query terms should be semantically related to a query, we calculate term relatedness in retrieved documents by summing proximity that is proportional to term frequency and inversely proportional to distance between words. Then terms, relatedness of which is bigger than threshold, are extracted as query-related issues, and our system shows those issues with a connected network. By analyzing single transitions in a connected network, compound words are easily obtained.

  • Data mining is a method to find useful information for large amounts of data in database. One of the well-studied problems in data mining is exploration for association rules. Association rule mining searches for interesting relationships among items in a given database by support, confidence, and lift. If we use the existing association rules, we can commit some errors by information loss not to consider the size of occurrence frequency. In this paper, we proposed a new association rule thresholds considering the number of possible rules of interest items and compare with existing association rule thresholds by example and real data. As the results, the new association rule thresholds were more useful than existing thresholds.
