The Role of Geography Education in Marine Education (해양 교육의 중요성과 지리 교육의 역할)

  • In terms of the importance of ocean as a present and future resource and the Korean peninsular location, it is strongly urged to develop renewed recognition and educational programs on ocean, so as to respond properly to the newly emerging political changes surrounding the country. By setting up the purpose of marine education as engendering greater interests in and knowledge of ocean, this research suggests that the frame of marine education can be founded appropriately on four educational sub-categories: humanity education, territory education, economy education, and resources and environment education. At an operational scale, this paper particularly analyzed ocean- related contents in the 7th national curriculum in order to find substantial ways for strengthening marine education. The study simultaneously compared the result of content analysis with the curriculum of marine education in other countries, and founded that explicit ocean-related contents in the 7th curriculum were significantly limited. Yet, the study alternatively points out that it is possible to use a variety of teaching materials and apply them for writing textbooks or developing teaching-teaming curriculum. I provide some of the ways for strengthening marine education by using marine-related themes in the curriculum of geography education. Marine is not simply one of the key elements in the discipline of geography. But, more importantly, I suggest that geography is particularly useful in developing various and familiar themes such as swimming beach, fishing villages, ports, marine-bound industrial district and port cities into teaching materials.

Reliability-Based Assessment of Structural Safety of Steel-Concrete Hybrid Cable-Stayed Bridge Erected by the FCM and FSM during Construction (FCM과 FSM공법에 의한 강-콘크리트 복합사장교의 신뢰성에 기초한 시공간 구조안전도평가)

  • In this study, the models and methods for the safety assessment of Steel-Concrete Hybrid Cable-Stayed Bridge, which consists of steel composite girder and concrete girder erected by the FCM(Free Cantilever Method) and FSM(Full Staging Method) are proposed for the assurance of structural safety and the prevention against bridge collapse during construction. By the structural reliability approach that reasonably considers the uncertainties associated with the resistance and the load effect, the resistance and the load distribution characteristics of Steel-Concrete Hybrid Cable-Stayed Bridgeare defined and the strength limit state equations of permanent structures and temporary structures during construction are suggested. An AFOSM algorithm and MCS technique are used for the reliability analysis of cables, pylons, girders, steel-concrete conjunction part and temporary bents. Also, component reliability analyses are performed at the construction stages based on the structural system model. To demonstrate their rationality and practicality, the proposed models and approaches are applied to a real bridge. The sensitivity analyses of main parameters are performed in order to identify the critical factors that control the safety of similar bridges. As a result, it may be stated that the proposed models could be implemented as a rational and practical approach for the safety assessment of Steel-Concrete Hybrid Cable-stayed bridges erected by FCM and FSM during construction.

Analysis of Critical Time Headway and Capacity for Freeway Merging Area (고속도로 합류부 임계차두간격 및 용량 산정에 관한 연구)

  • The objective of the paper is to analyze the traffic characteristics for freeway merging area. Freeway merging area is different from basic section due to ramp vehicles. Therefore, to understand the traffic characteristics of (leeway merging area, this study focused on two factors including critical time headway required in merging maneuver and maximum possible merging volume. In this paper, new model that adopts critical time headway instead of critical time gap in calculating the maximum possible merging volume based on probability function was developed In previous studies, for calculating the maximum possible merging volume, it was considered that merging vehicles could merge freely if a given time gap was greater than the critical time gap. Also, the critical time gap was used as the same value in all traffic flow conditions. But, a time gap required in merging maneuver could be changed, even to the same driver, because difference of relative speed varies in different traffic flow conditions. So, in some cases, the critical time gap could be insufficient value in merging maneuver. Therefore, in this study. a calculating procedure for critical time headway in all traffic flow conditions was presented. Also, the maximum possible merging volume and capacity for freeway merging area were calculated by using the previously found critical time headway.

A Simple Numerical Procedure for Assessing the Effect of Ground Improvement Around a Circular Tunnel Excavated in Mohr-Coulomb Rock Mass (Mohr-Coulomb 암반에 굴착된 원형터널의 보강효과 해석을 위한 간편 수치해석법)

  • When a tunnel is excavated in a rock mass of poor condition, the adjacent zone of excavation surface may be reinforced by adopting the appropriate methods such as grouting and rock bolting. The reinforced effect can be evaluated by use of various numerical approaches, where the reinforcing elements may be expressed as distinct discretizations or smeared into the equivalent material properties. In this study, a simple numerical method, which can be classified as the latter approach, was developed for the elasto-plastic analysis of a circular tunnel. If a circular tunnel in a Mohr-Coulomb rock mass is reinforced to a finite thickness, the reinforced annulus may have different material properties from the in-situ rock mass. In the proposed elasto-plastic method for assessing the reinforcing effect, Lee & Pietruszczak (2007)'s method is applied to both the reinforced annulus and the outer insitu rock mass of the fictitious tunnel, and then two results are combined by enforcing the compatibility condition. The method were verified through comparing the results with the proposed method and the commercial finite difference code FLAC. When taking the variation of deformation modulus and strength parameters in the reinforced zone into account, the distributions of stress and radial displacement were much different from those obtained with the assumption of homogeneous rock mass.

An Investigation of the Selection Process of Mathematically Gifted Students

  • The purpose of this paper is to review the gifted education from a reflective perspective. Especially, this research touches upon the issues of selection process from a critical point of view. Most of the problems presented in the mathematics competition or in the programs for preparing such competitions share the similar characteristic: the circumstances that are given for questions are too artificial and complicated; problem solving processes are superficially and fragmentally related to mathematical knowledge; and the previous experience with the problem very much decides whether a student can solve the problem and the speed of problem solving. In contrast, the problems for selecting students for Gifted Education Center clearly show what the related mathematical knowledge is and what kind of mathematical thinking ability these problems intend to assess. Accordingly, the process of solving these problems can be considered an important criterion of a student's mathematical ability. In addition, these kinds of problems can encourage students to keep further interest, and can be used as tasks for mathematical investigation later. We hope that this paper will initiate further discussions on issues derived from the mathematically gifted student selection process.

A Study on Developing a TOC-based Research Record System Model (TOC 기반 연구기록물시스템 모형 구축)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a model of the TOC (Table of Contents)-based research record system and to comparatively analyze its usability, in order to comprehensively and systematically manage and practically use the various research records generated from the entire process of research and development. For this purpose, the templates for technical recording and the components of each item were proposed to enable technical recording based on TOC, and structured contents were designed to organically connect between these TOC technical records and existing research records. Also, a database logical schema was developed to design a database, and a test collection was constructed on the basis of research records and TOC technical records. Finally, the model of research record system was constructed by designing TOC record search system and user interface including integrated search system. Based on this model, the usability assessment was performed by comparing the existing distributed general systems with the TOC-based research record system. As a result of the comparative analysis of these two systems, the TOC-based research record system showed generally higher utilization of research records than the general systems.

  • The rise of Hallyu (Korean Wave) has generated a treasury of historiographic and cultural inquiries into the phenomenal success of South Korea's media entertainment industry. Whereas the majority of such studies focus on TV dramas and popular music, there is a medium, or rather a hybrid sub-genre within the medium category of short films, that must be reexamined and thus appreciated as the archetypal predecessor of popular Hallyu contents: music videos. The rapidly changing social, political, and economic climate in the mid- to late 1990s called for content that would grasp the attention of a younger, increasingly mobile population with diversified interests and routines that no longer guaranteed fixed-time viewership. Meanwhile, the advent of cable TV channels and high-speed internet service ensured greater temporal and infrastructural accessibility. The media entertainment industry's response to the new opportunities and challenges arising from these sudden growths in the scale, range, connectivity, and mobility of consumer demographics was synergetic cross-sector collaboration in the form of dramatized blockbuster music videos, which combined two popular and lucrative genres: trendy dramas and ballad music. In this essay, by relocating Hallyu's archetypal medium/genre, I claim that increasing upward and sideways mobility across sectors not only inspired new production but also reconfigured the very concept, form, and impact of media-driven cultural imaginary in South Korea.

  • 본 연구는 한국의 도시재생과 스마트 물 관리의 정책 분석을 위하여 도시재생과 스마트 물 관리의 등장 배경, 주요 현안 및 연계성을 모색하고 도시재생방안으로서 스마트 물 관리체계의 가능성을 검토하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 1950년대의 도시재건(Urban Reconstruction)과 1970~80년대의 도시재개발(Urban Renewal, Urban Redevelopment) 등의 정비 사업은 물리적 환경정비에 초점을 맞추었다. 그러나 1990년대 환경문제가 세계적 이슈로 등장하면서 교외지역 난개발 문제에 대한 대응책이 필요하게 되었고 도시의 물리 환경적, 산업 경제적, 사회 문화적 측면을 부흥시키는 도시재생 접근법이 출현하였다. 한국 정부는 2017년부터 시작한 '도시재생 뉴딜사업'의 일환으로 스마트 기술을 적용한 도시재생사업을 통해 스마트도시 선도국가 도약과 세계적 흐름에 부합하는 도시성장을 기대하고 있다. 1980년대 초 등장한 스마트 기술은 2000년대 들어와 스마트 도시, 스마트 인프라, 스마트 그리드 등의 분야로 확대, 진보하였다. 물 분야의 스마트 기술은 2009년 스마트워터그리드 이니셔티브(Smart Water Grid Initiative)의 발족과 함께 IBM, CISCO, Intel 등의 IT 기반 물 관리 워킹그룹 형성, Suez, Veolia, Siemens 등 수처리 기업의 스마트워터그리드 분야 진출 모색과 함께 발전하기 시작하였다. 이후 2012년 유엔 스마트 물 관리 포커스 그룹(ITU-T SG 5)의 스마트 물 관리 표준화 연구가 착수되었고 한국은 국토교통부 건설교통기술 연구 개발사업 중 하나로 스마트 물 관리 장기 연구 사업을 시작하였다. 스마트 물 관리는 수자원 및 상하수도 관리의 효율성 제고를 위하여 스마트 미터, 센서, 디지털지도제작 등 ICT를 이용한 차세대 물 관리시스템이라고 정의할 수 있다. 구체적인 대상 분야를 고려한다면 하천수, 우수, 지하수, 하폐수처리수, 해수담수 등 다양한 수자원의 관리, 물의 생산과 수송, 사용한 물의 처리 및 재이용 등 물 관리 전 분야를 포함한다. 그러나 스마트 물 관리의 용어와 개념을 처음으로 도입한 미국 등 선진국과 관련기업들은 스마트 물 관리를 '스마트 워터 미터, 센서, 첨단 모델링, 수문 지도제작, 스마트 관개농업, 자동화 로봇 등 다양한 기술을 통합적으로 운영하는 지능적인 수자원 관리를 위한 정보네트워크'로 정의한다. 일찍이 도시재생으로의 패러다임 전환을 실시한 영국 및 일본과 달리 한국의 도시재생은 개념, 구성요소, 범위, 사업방식 등의 여러 가지 측면에서 아직 형성단계에 있다. 또한 한국의 스마트 물 관리 논의는 개념정립 측면에서 심층적 논의가 거의 부재하였다. 기존의 논의들은 수자원 혹은 상하수도서비스 분야에서의 연구결과와 기술개발성과를 기계적으로 적용하고 확대하는 측면만을 부각시켰다. 그러나 이와 같은 스마트 물 관리에 대한 논의는 정보통신기술과 물 관리 서비스를 단편적으로 연결하고 적용범위를 제한할 수도 있다는 점에서 한계성이 있다. 본 연구는 국내외 문헌검토를 바탕으로 한국의 도시재생과 스마트 물 관리의 정책을 분석하고 지금까지 별개로 간주된 두 개념의 장점을 융합하여 향후 지속가능한 도시개발 사업으로서의 가능성을 검토하고자 한다.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the components and to verify the relationship between service orientation, employee satisfaction, customer orientation and business performance of liner shipping company. In order to achieve the purpose of this study, literature survey related to service orientation, employee satisfaction, customer orientation and business performance was carried out and took a empirical analysis by the use of questionnaire method for employees in liner shipping company. The final results and conclusions are as follows; Service orientation of liner shipping company is a major element which has an effect on employee satisfaction. It has also effect on employee's dedicational attitude to achieve company's goal with pride on their duty and organization. In addition to, the relationship between service orientation, employee satisfaction, customer orientation and business performance finally reach to valuable attitude related in customer's satisfaction, and then it will read up high business performance and successful attainment.

Propagation Characteristics and Tolerance Analysis of Optical Wires in Flexible Optical PCB by Ray Tracing (연성 광 PCB용 광 배선의 손실특성 및 제작 공차 분석)

  • In this study, the propagation characteristics and the fabrication tolerance of an optical wire in a flexible optical PCB were analyzed by using a ray-tracing method. It is found from the analysis that the sidewall angle of a core should be controlled within $1^{\circ}$ in order to maintain the propagation loss to less than -1 dB/mm, and that the bending radius of the optical wire should be larger than 5 mm in order to suppress the bending loss below -1 dB. In addition, it is confirmed that the lateral misalignment of ${\pm}15\;{\mu}m$, and the angular tilting of VCSEL of $6^{\circ}$ are allowable for the coupling loss of -1 dB.
