  • Balun using a coaxial lines i often used in microwave circuits due to easy fabrication, high operating power, and stable operation. However, it is difficult to predict an accurate balun operation characteristic due to the parasitic reactance component to be generated when the coaxial line is connected to the microstrip line existing on the substrate, and the inductance and the capacitance component of the coaxial line itself. In this paper, it is measured the phase characteristics at two output ports of the coaxial line balun which should have opposite phase characteristics. Based on these results, it will examine closely the feasibility of making more improved coaxial line balun.

  • In this study, the excessive noise and vibration phenomena of a high-speed Ro/Ro passenger ship were analyzed, and a countermeasure was taken based on them. This ship was granted a comfort class notation by the classification society, which was COMFORT-VIBRATION-II and COMFORT-NOISE-CREW-II. However, unfortunately, excessive noise and vibration in the aft part of the ship were delivered from the twin shaft propellers, and therefore the Class Requirement was not satisfied before delivery. In order to obtain the class notation, all of the concerned parties came to an agreement to reduce the noise and vibration level during operation after delivery because a seasonal ferry service was already scheduled and the cabin was fully booked. The root cause of the massive amount of noise and vibration was mainly the propeller-induced excitation pulse and beating that occurred from the mismatch of the rotating speeds of the two shaft lines. A 1st order vibrating force and beating phenomena existed in the propeller. Thus, a reduction of the excitation force, elimination of the beating phenomena, and decrease of the noise level at the aft area cabins and public spaces were required. In addition, structural reinforcements were conducted using pillars and additional girders at the aft part of the decks.

  • In this paper, we proposed the 1-channel monopulse receiver which has the new configuration and described the operation procedures. Also, we compared and analyzed the proposal receiver and the general 3-channel monopulse receiver. As a result, it is apparent that the monopulse ratio of the proposal receiver is equal to that of the 3-channel monopulse receiver. The proposal receiver achieve the simple receiver configuration and the simple tracking procedures, as contrasted with the 3-channel monopulse receiver. Also, the proposal receiver has advantages in terms of size, weight, cost and power. Because the proposal monopulse receiver require 1-channel receiver and need not the signal processor in comparison with 3-channel monopulse receiver which require 3-channel receiver and need the signal processor.

  • In this study, a model of two-stage Weis-Fogh type water turbine model is proposed, the hydrodynamic characteristics of this water turbine model are calculated by the advanced vortex method. The basic conditions and the motion of each wing are the same as that of the single-stage model previously proposed by the same author. The two wings (NACA0010 airfoils) and both channel walls are approximated by source and vortex panels, and free vortices are introduced from the body surfaces. The distance between the front wing axis and the rear wing axis, and the phase difference between the motion of the two wings, which is in phase and out of phase are set as the calculation parameters. For each case, the unsteady flow fields, pressure fields, force coefficients, and efficiency of the two wings are calculated, and the hydrodynamic characteristics of the proposed water turbine model are discussed.

  • In this paper, we propose the operation procedures of the 1-channel monopulse receiver which achieves the new configuration. Also, we analyzed the monopulse ratio and the target angle accuracy of the fabricated receiver by using the monopulse signal generator developed for verifying the proposal equipment. As a result, it is apparent that the monopulse ratio of the proposal receiver is equal to that of the 3-channel monopulse receiver. Also, the fabricated receiver exhibits the target angle accuracy with fewer than 0.1 RMS. The proposal receiver achieves the simple receiver configuration and the simple tracking procedures, as contrasted with the 3-channel monopulse receiver. Also, the proposal receiver has advantages in terms of size, weight, cost and power. Because the proposal monopulse receiver requires 1-channel receiver and needs not the signal processor in comparison with 3-channel monopulse receiver which requires 3-channel receiver and need the signal processor.

  • This paper describes the design of a size-reduced ring hybrid coupler for microwave band using an artificial dielectric substrate(ADS). ADS structure adopts the second substrate on which has lots of the metalized via-holes. The effective capacitance and effective dielectric constant per unit length of ADS increases compared to the normal substrate due to the via-holes. This enables the physical length of microstrip transmission line to be reduced by adopting ADS instead of the normal substrate. In order to present an example of size-reduction of microwave wireless circuit by ADS, a size-reduced 3GHz ring hybrid coupler is designed, fabricated and measured in this work. The designed coupler has the smaller size from the normal one by 65% due to the ADS, while no critical degradation from ideal performances is observed. The measured power division ratio at two output ports are -3.05dB and -3.135dB, respectively. In addition, the phase differences are 3o for in-phase division and 176o for out of phase split. The measured performances are so similar to ideal ones, and prove the design of size-reduced ring hybrid coupler using ADS is successful.

  • Human auditory acuity decreases naturally due to aging. But recently cases of impaired hearing at a young age are increasing greatly. The biggest reason for such an increase of population with impaired hearing is popularization of various kinds of portable multimedia appliances. Many studies on impaired hearing due to noises caused by the earphone and headphone are being made, but there are few studies on noise-impaired hearing caused directly by mobile phone communication. Based on a precedent inquiry, this study proposes a technique for preventing noise-impaired hearing applying to an active noise reduction technique onto bone conduction speaker. This technique is a method for reducing noises by antiphase oscillation through bone conduction speaker with ambient noises. If the proposed system is applied, the noise level that is actually introduced to audition decreases by more than 12 dB, and such a decreased amount of sound volume fundamentally prevents the factors of noise-caused hearing difficulty due to mobile phone communication. Sensibility test results showed that adequate communication was possible even in such a situation where communication volume was decreased like this.

  • The active noise cancellation system offers a better low frequency performance with a smaller and lighter system compared to a passive one. This paper presents an active noise control system capable of reducing the noise in a helmet after attenuating the external noise using the helmet as the passive noise reduction system, which consists of a controller for inverting and compensating the phase delay, a microphone for picking up the external noise, and a loudspeaker for radiating the acoustic anti-phase signal to reduce the external noise. In this paper, external noise can be reduced by noise controller by compensating the phase difference to be 180°in the frequency of maximun value in the amplitude response. The noise of the phase delay covered from 50°to 310°was reduced in this system and it is possible to obtain a noise reduction of up to approximately 20 dB at the ears in the enclosure.

  • This study proposes a novel structure for the cross-eye, one of the representative jamming techniques of monopulse sensors. The proposed jammer tranceivers are composed of multi-channels with phased array antenna. We named this structure PRCJ(Phased array Retrodicetive Cross-eye Jammer). In this structure, formulas for calculating cross-eye gain and distance error are derived. We compare the properties of PRCJ with two-element retrodiredtive cross-eye jammer(TRCJ). PRCJ can achieve higher J/S because this structure can steer the spatially combined jamming signal in the direction of the incident monopulse signal. Because of the multiple channels in the phased array, it also increases the degree of freedom of channel matching. Finally, We preform a statistical analysis of the cross-eye gain according to the amplitude and phase errors. From this results, It has been found that PRCJ can get higher cross-eye gain than TRCJ.

  • Broadband monolithic SiGe HBT variable gain amplifier with a feedforward configuration have been newly developed to improve bandwidth and dB-linearly controlled gain characteristics. The VGA has been implemented in a $0.35-{\mu}m$ BiCMOS process. The VGA achieves a dynamic gain-control range of 19.6 dB and a 3-dB bandwidth of 4 GHz ($4{\sim}8\;GHz$) with the control-voltage range from 0.6 to 2.6 V. The VGA produces a maximum gain of 9.3 dB at 6 GHz and a output power of -3 dBm at 8 GHz.
