Estimation of Cooling Rate in Bulk Amorphous Alloys by Separate Cooling Process

  • 벌크 비정질 합금의 특성상 점도가 높고, 냉각속도가 빨라 냉각되는 합금의 온도를 직접 측정하는 것은 곤란하므로, 측정에 의하여 냉각속도를 구하는 것은 매우 어렵다. 본 연구에서는 합금의 온도를 직접 측정하는 대신 금형의 온도를 측정하고, 측정된 금형의 온도를 상용 열해석 프로그램을 이용한3차원 계산 결과와 비교, 보정하는 역문제 기법을 사용하여 Cu계와 Zr계 벌크 비정질합금의 냉각속도를 예측하였다. 예측된 냉각속도는 금형온도와 시편의 두께에 따라Cu계의 경우는 284~300 K/s, Zr계는 279~289 K/s로, 초기 금형온도의 영향은 크지 않은 것으로 나타났다. 전산모사 결과와 달리 금형을 수냉한 쪽보다 가열한 쪽의 응고중 냉각속도가 빨라 조직이 더 미세한 것으로 나타났는데, 이는 응고중 금형과 주물간에 에어갭의 형성으로 열전달을 방해 받은 영향으로 사료된다.

  • This study proposed a technique for inverse problem, linear approximation of contact position and loading in single and double meshing of spiral bevel gear , using 2-dimension model considered near the tooth by root stress. Determine root stress is carried out far the gear tooth by finite element method and boundary element method. Boundary element discretization near contact point is carefully performed to keep high computational accuracy. And from those estimated results, the comparing estimate value with boundary element method value was discussed.

  • This study proposed a technique for inverse problem, linear approximation of contact position and loading in single and double meshing of transmission contact element using 2-dimension model considered near the tooth by root stress. Determination of root stress is carried out far the gear tooth by finite element method and boundary element method. Boundary element discretization near contact point is carefully performed to keep high computational accuracy. The predicted results of boundary element method are good accordance with that of finite element method.

A Study on the Prediction of the Loaded Location of the Composite Laminated Shell by Using Neural Networks (신경회로망을 이용한 복합재료 원통쉘의 하중특성 추론에 관한 연구)

  • After impact analysis of the composite cylindrical shells was performed. obtained outputs at 9 equally divided points of the shell were used as input patterns of the neural networks. Identification of impact loading characteristics was predicted simultaneously. Momentum backpropagation algorithm of neural networks which can modify the momentum coefficient and learning rate was developed and applied to identify the loading characteristics. Hidden layers of the backpropagation increased from 1 layer to 3 layers and trained the loading characteristics. Developed program with variable learning rate was converged close to real load characteristics under 1% error. Inverse engineering which identify the impact loading characteristics can be applicable to the composite laminated cylindrical shells with developed neural networks.

  • Most structures of automobile are composed of many substructures connected to one another by various types of mechanical joints. In automotive engineering, it is important to study these connected structures under various dynamic farces for the evaluations of fatigue life and stress concentration exactly. It is rarely obtained the accurate load history of specified positions because of the errors such as modeling, measurement, and etc. In the beginning of design, exact load data are actually necessary for the fatigue strength and life analysis to minimize the cost and time of designing. In this paper, the procedure of practical dynamic load determination is developed by the combination of the principal stresses of F.E. analysis and experiment. Inverse problem and least square pseudo inverse matrix are adopted to obtain an inverse matrix of analyzed stresses matrix. Pseudo-Practical dynamic load was calculated for Lab. Test of sub-structure. GUI program(PLODAS) was developed for whole of above procedure. This proposed method could be extended to any geometric shape of structure.

In this paper, the hybrid method of practical dynamic load determination is developed by the combination of the principal stresses from F. E. Analysis and test of a jointed structure. Least square pseudo inverse matrix is adopted to obtain an inverse matrix of analyzed stresses matrix. The error minimization method utilizes the inaccurate measured error and the shifting error that the whole data is stiffed over real data. The least square criterion is adopted to avoid these errors. Finally, to verify the proposed system, a heavy-duty bus is analyzed. This measurement and prediction technology can be extended to the different jointed structures.

Determination of Degraded Fiber Properties of Laminated CFRP Flat Plates Using the Bivariate Gaussian Distribution Function (이변량 Gaussian 분포함수를 적용한 CFRP 적층 평판의 보강섬유 물성저하 규명)

  • This paper presents a method to detect the fiber property variation of laminated CFRP plates using the bivariate Gaussian distribution function. Five unknown parameters are considered to determine the fiber damage distribution, which is a modified form of the bivariate Gaussian distribution function. To solve the inverse problem using the combined computational method, this study uses several natural frequencies and mode shapes in a structure as the measured data. The numerical examples show that the proposed technique is a feasible and practical method which can prove the location of a damaged region as well as inspect the distribution of deteriorated stiffness of CFRP plates for different fiber angles and layup sequences.

Nondestructive Defect Detection in Two-dimensional Anisotropic Composite Elastic Bodies Using the Boundary Element Method (경계 요소법을 이용한 2차원 비등방성 복합재료 탄성체의 비파괴 결함 추정)

  • In this paper, the defects of two-dimensional anisotropic elastic bodies are identified by using the boundary element method. The use of numerical models that contain only boundary integral terns reduces the dimensionality of the problem by one. This advantage is particularly important in problems such as crack mechanics. Avoiding domain meshing is also particularly advantageous in the solution of inverse problems since it overcomes mesh perturbations and simplifies the procedure. In this paper, nondestructive approaches for the existing isotropic materials are extended to analyze the elastic bodies made of anisotropic materials such as composites. After verifying that the proposing boundary element model is in good agreement with numerical results reported by other investigators, the effect of noise in the measurements on the identifiability is studied with respect to different design parameters of layered composites. Sample studies are carried out for various layup configurations and loading conditions. The effects of the layup sequences in detecting flaw of composites is explored in this paper.

  • This paper presents a tumor detection for breast cancer that utilizes two-dimensional(2D) image reconstruction with microwave tomographic imaging. The breast cancer detection system under development consists of 16 transmit/receive antennas, and the microwave tomography system operates at 1,700 MHz. The four types of breast(ED-, HD-, SC-, and FT-type) are used for image reconstruction. To solve a 2D inverse scattering problem, the method of moments(MoM) is employed for forward problem solving, and the simplex method employed as an optimization algorithm. The results of the reconstructed image show that the ED- and HD-types of breasts are well reconstructed, but SC- and FT-type breasts are not well because of the error including.

Evaluation of Fracture Toughness of Copper Thin Films by Combining Numerical Analyses and Experimental Tests (해석과 실험을 결합한 구리 박막의 파괴인성 평가)

  • In this paper, a method of combining numerical analyses and experimental tests is used to evaluate fracture toughness of copper thin films of $15{\mu}m$ thickness. Far-field loadings of a global-local finite element model are inversely estimated by matching crack opening profiles in experiments with numerical results. The fracture toughness is then evaluated using the J-integral for cracks in thin films under far-field loadings. In experiments, Cu thin films attached to Aluminum sheets are loaded indirectly, and crack opening profiles are observed by microscope camera. Stress versus strain curves of Cu thin films are obtained through micro-tensile tests, and the grain size of Cu thin films is observed by TEM analysis. The results show that the fracture toughness of Cu thin films with $500nm{\sim}1{\mu}m$ sized grains is $6,962J/m^2$.
