Our study investigated the association between solvent exposure and acquired color vision loss using the Lanthony D-15 desaturated panel in petrochemical industry. Since neurotoxic effects associated with chronic solvent exposure, subjects with more than 6 months of exposure were included. Exposure assesment was estimated mean, maximum and cumulative 8hr TWA from individual 8-hour sampling. Exposure status were classified into two groups, occupationally exposed group to solvent and a non-exposed group. The results showed that CCI was positively related for age. According to the results of qualitative analysis, there was no significant difference in the prevalence of specific Type of dyschromatopsia the two examined group. However, the prevalence showed a higher proportion of dyschromatopsia to solvent exposure. It was affect with acquired dyschromatopsia(Type II, III and Complex) in exposed worker group(5.9%,7.86%,14.99%, respectively) than in the nonexposed group(6.16%,7.55%,13.71%, respectively). After each variable was adjusted for age, alcohol and tobacco consumption, a relationship between acquired dyschromatopsia and exposure showed an increase in the Odds ratio as compared to the nonexposed group at only left. The results showed that acquired dyschromatopsia was positively related to age (p<0.001). The results showed that solvent exposure, although not significant, could cause the acquired dyschromatopsia and visual system can serve important information on early neurotoxic effects in generally. Therefore, we need to concerns about eye health in workers.

A marine air drone is a new device that can be used to respond to and prevent marine casualties. Determining the districts where marine air drones can be deployed helps the government decision makers identify efficient policy. The aim of this study is to develop a model using the fuzzy-analytic hierarchy process (F-AHP) and additive ratio assessment (ARAS) method to evaluate appropriate districts for deploying marine air drones. To verify the applicability of the proposed model, a case study was performed with respect to the Korea coast guard (KCG) districts. Since the deployed marine air drones are characterized by a high degree of overlap between the evaluation attributes. the F-AHP is used to determine the weights of identified criteria. The results of this study, show that missing people from the shore was the most important criterion for deployment of the drone. For ranking the local districts of the KCG, the ARAS is applied in the case study with the single goal of 50% reduction in marine casualties. Consequently, the highest priority district was identified as Mokpo, followed by Incheon, Seogwipo, Taean, Wando, Yeosu, Pohang, Tongyeong, Gunsan, Bolyeong, Jeju, Buan, Donghae, Sokcho, Ulsan, Uljin, Busan, Changwon, and Pyeongtaeg.
In order to see if any suppressor system for the SD action was involved in natural populations of D. melanogaster samples from the populations of nine localities in Korea, Choonchun, Yusoo, Namhai, Shinchon(Seoul), Kwangjoo(Kyunggi), Koonsan, Kwangjoo(Chunnam), Jejoo and Pusan were analyzed by using the mating scheme for locating the suppressor on chromosome pairs. And also two kinds of recombinant SD lines R-1, the American line and $R(SD^NH -1)-1$, the Japanese one were used in order to see any difference of the response of the suppressor for differently originated SD. The results of the experiment are given below. (1) The suppressor system was involved in all lines of natural populations from nine localities of Korea. (2) Most of the suppressors were found to be located on the X chromosome and only a few lines from three populations showed to carry the suppressors on the second chromosome and on the third or fourth chromosoem. (3) The response of the suppressor for differently originated SD lines showed no significant difference.

Although the rubble mound breakwaters in Korea have been damaged by typhoons almost every year, quantification of erosion of armor block have seldomly been made. In this paper, the damage of armor units is standardized by the relative damage. In the case where the number of damaged units is reported, it is divided by the total number of units to calculate the relative damage. In the case where the rehabilitation cost is reported, the relative damage is calculated by using its relationship with the present value of the past rehabilitation cost. The relative damage is shown to have strong correlations with the typhoon parameters such as nearest central air pressure and maximum wind speed at each site. On the other hand, the existing numerical methods for calculating the cumulative damage are compared with hydraulic model tests. The method of Melby and Kobayashi (1998) is shown to give a reasonable result, and it is used to calculate the relative damage, which is compared with the measured damage. A good agreement is shown for the East Breakwater of Yeosu Harbor, while poor agreement is shown for other breakwaters. The poor agreement may be because waves of larger height than the design height occurred due to strong typhoons associated with climate change so that the relative damage increased during the last several decades.
Disease surveillance was performed to monitor the prevalence of fish pathogens in wild marine fish caught in coastal offshore water from February to October in 2008. A total of 401 fish samples were collected at set net or fish market at landing port on the coast of Pohang, Geoje, Yeosu and Jeju. In this study, 17 kinds of fish pathogens were isolated from 152 fish samples. The detection rates of parasites, bacteria or viruses were 21.4%, 17.0% and 2.7%, respectively. The detected parasites were Scutica, Trichodina, Cryptocaryon, Dactylogyrus, Microcotyle, Benedenia, Bivagina, Heteraxin, Caligus, Epistylis and nematode. The dominant bacterial pathogens were Vibrio, Streptococcus, Photobacterium and Psuedomonas. Red sea bream iridovirus (RSIV) and lymphocystis disease virus (LDV) were detected in 6 species of fish virus examined in this study. The detection rates of fish pathogens from Scorpaenidae, Monacanthidae, Pleuronectidae, Sparidae and Carangidae investigated over 30 samples were 59.2%, 48.4%, 34.2%, 30.6% and18.2%, respectively.
Borehole investigation which is mainly used to figure out geotechnical characterizations at construction work has the benefit that it provides a clear and convincing geotechnical information. But it has limitations to get the overall information of the construction site because it is performed at point location. In contrast, geophysical measurements like seismic survey has the advantage that the geological stratum information of a large area can be characterized in a continuous cross-section but the result from geophysics survey has wide range of values and is not suitable to determine the geotechnical design values directly. Therefore it is essential to combine borehole data and geophysics data complementally. Accordingly, in this study, a three-dimensional spatial interpolation of the cross-sectional distribution of seismic refraction was performed using digitizing and geostatistical method (krigring). In the process, digital map were used to increase the trustworthiness of method. Using this map, errors of ground height which are broken out in measurement from boring investigation and geophysical measurements can be revised. After that, average seismic velocity are derived by comparing borehole data with geophysical speed distribution data of each soil layer. During this process, outlier analysis is adapted. On the basis of the average seismic velocity, integrated analysis techniques to determine the three-dimensional geological stratum information is established. Finally, this analysis system is applied to dam construction field.

Wild yeasts were isolated from domestic non-sterilized Makgeolli and their fermentation characteristics were analyzed to select the best fermentation seed culture. A total of 65 yeast strains isolated yeasts from non-sterilized Makgeolli and Nuruk. In order to select fermentable strains, hydrogen sulfide, $CO_2$ production ability, alcohol tolerance and aroma component production ability were analyzed. To screen the aromatic strains of isolates, media containing cerulenin, 5,5,5-trifluor-DL-leucine (TFL) and API ZYM kit were used. There were 36 strains resistance to cerulenin and all strains produced esterase and demonstrated tolerance against TFL. Hydrogen sulfide, which could degrade the quality of the fermented beverage, was not produced in 34 yeast. The correlation between alcohol tolerance of yeast and carbon dioxide production was analyzed by principal component analysis. YM22, YM31, YM32 and YM37 produced a total of 0.14-0.18 g/72 h of $CO_2$ indicating high fermentability. Alcohol tolerance was measured by alcohol concentration. YM32, YM37 yeast had 20% alcohol tolerance. As a result, alcohol and flavor characteristics of wild yeast isolated from non-sterilized Makgeolli were analyzed and it was confirmed that yeast was suitable for the production of alcohol.
The appearance of organochlorine pesticide residues in shellfish, seaweed, mud and water samples collected from south coast of Korean peninsula in September 1974 was surveyed to obtain the following results. 1) The residues in shellfish samples were found to be in the orders of Choongmoo > Yeosoo > Busan > Mokpo area, top-shell >short-necked clam > mussel > hard clam > red-shell, aldrin > ${\alpha}-BHC$ > heptachlor> ${\gamma}-BHC$ > dieldrin > heptachlor epoxide > endrin and in the range of $0-49\;{\mu}g/kg$ edible fresh muscle. 2) The residues in seaweed samples from Wando area were found to be in the orders of tangle > green laver > laver, ${\alpha}-BHC$ > ${\gamma}-BHC$ > aldrin > dieldrin > heptachlor > heptachlor epoxide > endrin and in the range of $0-60\;{\mu}g/kg$ dry matter. 3) The residues in water samples were found to be in the orders of Yeongsan River > Nakdong River > Seomjin River > Choongmoo shellfish farm, ${\alpha}-BHC$ > ${\gamma}-BHC$ > aldrin > heptachlor > dieldrin > heptachlor epoxide > endrin and in the range of $0-180\;{\mu}g/kl$ while those in mud samples were in the order of ${\alpha}-BHC$ > ${\gamma}-BHC$> aldrin > dieldrin > heptachlor > heptachlor epoxide > endrin and in the range of $0.7-18\;{\mu}g/kg$ dry matter. It should be noted that BHC contents of water samples from Yeongsan and Nakdong rivers were far above the recommended environmental levels in USA.
A marine bacterium producing carotenoid was isolated from the Yosu coastal area of South Korea, and has been recorded as MCPBK-1. It was identified as Curtobacterium sp.. The optimum conditions of marine carotenoid fermentation from Cutobacterium sp. were pH 7.0, a temperature of $25^{\circ}C$, 4 mM fructose as a carbon source, 0.07% tryptone as a nitrogen source, 0.5 mM $M^{+2}$ ion as a mineral source and $1{\;}\mu\textrm{M}$ of cyanocobalamine as a growth factor in a $7{\;}\ell$ jar-fermentor. 13.0 mg/ml of the marine carotenoid were produced under optimum conditions. The crude marine carotenoid isolated was composed of 5 different compounds, i.e : tunaxanthin(86.6%), diatoxanthin (7.1%), ${\beta}-carotene$ (2.1%), canthaxanthin(1.9%) and cynthiaxanthin (1.9%). Physiological properties including antibacterial activity, cytotoxic effect, antioxidative effect and free radical scavenging activity were characterized with the crude carotenoid, which exhibited no antibacterial activity against E. coli and Lactobacillus bulgaricus, but a strong cytotoxic effect against cancer cells such as HepG2 (Hepatocellular carcinoma, human, ATCC HB-8065) and HeLa (Cervical carcinoma, human, ATCC CCL-2) cells, the ratios of impediment were 86.4% and 39.2%, respectively. This carotenoid, also, expressed a strong antioxidative effect (83%) against CCL-13 (diploid, monotypic hepatocyte, human, ATCC CCL-13) and exhibited free radical scavenging activity (43.4%) when using at a concentration of $50{\;}\mu\textrm{g}/ml$ of the crude carotenoid.
