  • This paper is analyzing the situation of the electric vehicle Industry and draw the policy implications to promote electric vehicle industry. Major automobile makers as GM, BMW, Nissan, Audi produce various electric vehicles. But in recent times, only few electric vehicle sold in the world. So, many automobile makers gave up the production of electric vehicles. and the fuel-cell vehicle will replace the electric vehicle as a environment car in the future. We should take the build up of eco system between vehicle makers and the small parts companies, construction of battery charging infrastructure, promotion of standardization activities, and the government's support to revive the electric vehicle industry.

  • In this study, a mathematical model for analyzing the shifting transients of the passenger car with an automatic transmission is proposed. The proposed model comprises a power transmission system and a vehicle system, which are coupled. In order to extract the modeling parameters, on-road car test is carried out. The model is composed of a detailed powertrain, an engine/AT housing, a simplified suspension system, tires and a vehicle body model. On the test, the vehicle accelerations and pitch ratio are measured by using accelerometers and a gyro sensor. The speeds, the brake signal, and the throttle position are taken from sensors which already exist in the vehicle. Considering natural ftequencies, which is calculated from the measured accelerations, and the characteristic equation, vehicle model parameters are identified. Dynamic behaviors during upshift or downshift are simulated using the proposed vehicle model. By comparing and analyzing the simulation result and on-road car test data, the vibration of the Engine/AT housing influences the shifting transients. The effect of model parameters are also studied. Among model parameters, the location of engine mountings influences the vibration of the vehicle body.

  • Hybrid Electric Vehicles(HEVs) have seriously come into prevalence recently as car manufacturers and consumers have become more aware of the environmental and economic problems of conventional vehicles. For the alternative power-train and battery cooling systems in HEVs, an effective thermal management system is required, and many automakers are interested in using Brushless DC(BLDC) motors for cooling fans for the overall traction unit's performance and energy saving capability. This paper presents the development status of BLDC motors as major parts of the power-train, i.e. the engine cooling and battery cooling fans of HEVs. A design that uses BLDC motors for the power-train and each battery cooling fan, is successfully implemented through using electro-magnetic analysis, and prototype BLDC motors are examined. As experimental results, the BLDC motors achieved an efficiency of 85% as engine cooling fans and 72% as a battery thermal management fan motor. The electric cogging noise is significantly reduced by changing the skew of the slot pitch angle and optimizing the magnetic shape.

  • Recently green house gas emission problem has been issued because $CO_2$ emission is known to cause global warming. Hence, introduces more stringent emission and fuel economy requirements in various countries, including Korea. In this research, $CO_2$ emission factor characteristics of in-use cars, which are the most dominant vehicle type in Korea, were studied, and 129 gasoline vehicles, 100 diesel vehicles, and 34 LPG vehicles were tested on a chassis dynamometer. In the tests, CO and $CO_2$ emissions as well as fuel reduction rates weremeasured. The tests were conducted in the CVS-75 mode, which has been considered for developing emission factors for regulating emissions from light-duty vehicles in Korea. Through experiments, correlations among displacement, fuel consumption efficiency, fuel type, mileage, driving pattern, and $CO_2$ emission were investigated.

  • The experimental test was conducted for a heavy-duty DME bus in JE-05 exhaust gas test mode using a chassis dynamometer, exhaust gas analyzers, and a PM measurement system. The heavy-duty DME bus was not equipped with after-treatment systems such as DOC or DPF. The dynamic behavior, emission characteristics, and fuel economy of the bus were investigated with an 8.0-liter, 6-cylinder conventional diesel engine. The results showed that the dynamic behavior in DME mode was almost the same as in diesel mode. However, there was little difference among the two operation modes for $NO_x$ and CO emissions. THC emissions were lower for DME mode than for diesel mode. Also, the amount of PM emissions was remarkably lower than for the diesel mode because DME contains a greater amount of oxygen than diesel. The data showed that $CO_2$ emissions were almost similar in the two modes but fuel economy (calculated using heating value) was lower for DME mode than for diesel mode.

  • This study effect of engine oils on regulated fuel economy and emissions including particulate matter (PM) to provide basic data for management of engine oil in vehicles. Three engine oils (Group III base oil, Group III genuine oil with additive package and synthetic oil with poly alpha olefins (PAOs)) were used in one gasoline, one LPG(liquefied petroleum gas) and two diesel vehicles. In the case of diesel vehicles, one is a diesel vehicle without DPF (diesel particulate filter) other is a diesel vehicle with DPF. In this study, the US EPA emission test cycle FTP-75, representing city driving, was used. HORIBA, PIERBURG, and AVL gas analyzers were used to measure the fuel economy and regulated emissions such as CO, NOx, and THC. The number of PM was measured using a PPS (pegasor particle sensor). And, the shape of PMs was analyzed by SEM (scanning electron microscope). The effects of oil type on fuel economy, exhaust gas, and PM were not significant because engine oil consumption by evaporation and combustion in the cylinder is very tiny. Fuel and vehicle type were dominant factors in fuel economy and emissions. HC emission from gasoline vehicles was higher than that from other vehicles and NOx emission from diesel vehicles was higher than that from other vehicles. The number of PM was not affected by the engine oil, but by the driving pattern and fuel. The shapes of the PM, sampled from each vehicle using any test engine oil, were similar.

  • These test methods, the current domestic vehicles fuel economy calculation method is tested on a dynamometer for vehicles after you have installed the vehicle, given the test mode(FTP-75 & HWFET mode, etc.) are measured by vehicle emissions and fuel economy by seeking to have the results approach, the carbon balance method. At this point, using the carbon balance method is a test method was developed seeking fuel for a standard fuel properties, where the value of the constant and saved test was measured in THC, CO, $CO_2$ has a value calculation. Therefore, use fuel which is changed every time you test the fuel properties characteristics are not considered exactly. In this study, using the carbon balance method and fluid flow rate of the fuel used in the actual test is measured by comparing the results with the flow measurement methods, properties of the fuel used for the test attribute to study ways that can be considered, taking into account the physical attributes of a more diverse fuel line and fuel economy improved measurement methods that can be reviewed.
