Influence of Red LED Treatment on Photosynthesis, Vegetative Growth and Fruit Quality in 'Fuji'/M.26 Apple Trees during Night (야간 적색 LED 처리가 'Fuji'/M.26 사과나무의 광합성, 영양생장 및 과실 품질에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to find out the influence of red LED (Light Emitting Diode) lighting on the photosynthesis, vegetative growth and fruit quality of 'Fuji'/M.26 adult apple tree during night after sunset. The photosynthetic rate, stomatal conductance and transpiration rate at daytime of red LED treatments was not different to those of the control. However, the stomatal conductance and transpiration rate at the nighttime of red LED treatments were lower than those of the control, and the red LED lighting during night after sunset was not induce to photosynthesize at nighttime. In the leaf characteristics, the red LED lighting seemed to increase leaf area and C/N ratio, but decrease SPAD value. The bourse shoot length of the red LED treatments was shorter than that of the control. In the fruit quality, the red LED lighting seemed to increase ethylene production, respiration rate, soluble solid content and fruit red color, and especially the fruit red color tend to increase as the red LED lighting time was longer. In conclusion, the red LED lighting during night after sunset of 'Fuji'/M.26 apple tree promoted the fruit maturation.

  • Effects of 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) treatment and controlled atmosphere (CA) storage was analyzed for the export quality of 'Fuji' apples after 8-month storage. Apples were harvested from two orchards located in different regions at relatively late stage of maturity for long-term storage. Fruit were treated with 1 ${\mu}L{\cdot}L^{-1}$ 1-MCP and then stored in $0^{\circ}C$ air or CA with 1.5 kPa $O_2$ and < 1.0 kPa $CO_2$ for 8 months. To simulate poststorage export process such as 2-week refrigerated container shipment plus 7-day local distribution, fruit were put in $0^{\circ}C$ air storage for additional two weeks and then on the shelf for 7 days at $20^{\circ}C$. Both the 1-MCP treatment and CA storage reduced respiration and ethylene evolution after storage and shipping simulation, and successfully maintained titratable acidity and flesh firmness even after the export process. In 'Fuji' apples harvested after adequate stage of maturity for long-term storage, however, 1-MCP treatment alone seemed not to be satisfactory for the maintenance of sensorial fruit texture for export market. CA storage or 1-MCP treatment/CA storage combination program should be applied for lately harvested 'Fuji' apples exported after eight months storage.

Preparation of Azidated Polybutadiene(Az-PBD)/Ethylene-Vinyl Acetate Copolymer(EVA) Blends for the Application of Energetic Thermoplastic Elastomer (에너지함유 열가소성탄성체 적용을 위한 아지드화 폴리부타디엔/에틸렌-비닐아세테이트 공중합체 블렌드 제조)

  • A new energetic thermoplastic elastomer based on the azidated polybutadiene(Az-PBD)/ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA) blends was prepared, and structure and properties of the blends were invetigated by SEM, DSC, DMA, tensile testing and combustion test. The Az-PBD was synthesized via a two-step process involving the addition reaction of commercially available 1,2-PBD with $Br_2$ and subsequent nucleophilic substitution reaction of the brominated PBD with $NaN_3$. EVA/Az-PBD with 90/10, 80/20, 70/30 (wt/wt) was prepared by a solution blending. SEM, DSC, and DMA results revealed that the blends are partially compatible and Az-PBD is dispersed in continuous EVA matrix. Tensile test showed that modulus and tension set increased while elongation-at-break of the blends decreased with increasing Az-PBD content in the blends, but all the blends showed a elongation at break as high as 700% and a tension set of less than 5%, indicating that the blends are typically elastomeric. Combustion test showed that, with increasing Az-PBD content in the blend, higher energy can be released.

  • The static eliminator is used for prevention of disasters by static discharge, improvement of production efficiency, protection of a sensitive electronic element on the discharge of static, and it is handled for elimination of static in the painting plant, the film manufacturing plant, the producing semi-conductor factory. This study described on the explosion appearance by discharge phenomena on the voltage input type eliminator's ion generation bar of inflammable gas through an experimental tests. It was used Hydrogen, Ethylene, Propane, Methane gas with the inflammable gas and it was studied on the ignition phenomena by the length of ion-generation static bar, the number of ion-generation electrode and the variation of input voltage to the ion-generation electrode. As a result of this study it was confirmed that the shorter of the bar's length, the greater of explosion danger. And it is considered that there will not ignite at general using inflammable gas, in case of more than 900 mm bar and one electrode.

Evaluation of Fruit Quality during Shelf-life at High Temperature Environment in 'Wonhwang' and 'Whasan' Pears ('원황' 및 '화산' 배의 숙도별 고온유통환경에서의 품질 평가)

  • We evaluated the changes of fruit quality factors and the incidence of physiological disorders during the periods of high temperature environment in 'Wonhwang' and 'Whasan' pears to determine appropriate harvest time for exportation. In 'Wonhwang' pears, the fruits harvested at 130 days after full bloom (DAFB) showed 31.3 and 17.6N of flesh firmness after 5 and 10 days after simulated marketing at $30^{\circ}C$, respectively, while those of the fruits harvested at 135 DAFB lowered to 16.7 or 6.9N, respectively. Whereas, 'Whasan' pear showed higher firmness during 14 days of high marketing condition than 'Wonhwang' pears which represented 30.4, 26.5 and 21.6N in the fruits harvested 145, 150 and 155 DAFB, respectively. Higher soluble solid contents and lower acidity values observed in the late harvested fruits in both cultivar along with increased marketing period at $30^{\circ}C$. Late harvested 'Wonhwang' pears showed higher respiration rate and ethylene production than early harvested ones, while those of 'Whasan' pears showed lower values regardless of fruit maturity which represented less than 50% of 'Wonhwang' pears. The incidence of physiological disorders such as internal browning, water soaking, flesh spot decay, core breakdown and pithiness appeared more severely in the fruits of 'Wonhwang' in accordance with the progress of high temperature marketing and fruit maturity. Whereas, those symptoms were occurred only after 14 days of prolonged marketing time in 'Whasan' pears. Consequently, it was needed to pay more attention to determine the ripeness when the fruits exported to the country with high temperature environment, especially in the fruits of 'Wonhwang' pears showing rapid quality loss and severe physiological disorders.

Effect of 1-methylcyclopropene Treatment on Extension of Freshness and Storage Potential of Fresh Ginseng (1-methylcyclopropene 처리의 수삼의 신선도 유지 및 저장성 연장 효과)

  • Fresh ginseng has a limited storage life due to the quality change caused by microbial spoilage as well as physiological deterioration. The present study investigated the effects of 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) treatment, an inhibitor of ethylene action, on the microbial growth and quality maintenance of fresh ginseng during storage. Harvested fresh ginsengs were treated with $1{\mu}L{\cdot}L^{-1}$ 1-MCP for 20 hours at $4^{\circ}C$ and then stored at room temperature (RT) for 18 days or low temperature ($4^{\circ}C$) for 160 days. After 18 days of storage at RT, the percentage weight loss in 1-MCP treated fresh ginseng (8.3%) is lower than that of control (10.1%). During long-term storage at $4^{\circ}C$, weight losses were increased slightly until 120 days without difference between non-treated and 1-MCP ginsengs. In contrast, after 120 days of storage at $4^{\circ}C$, higher increase in weight loss was observed in non-treated ginsengs than in 1-MCP treated ginsengs. Respiration rate and ethylene production of fresh ginseng were reduced by 1-MCP treatments at RT. The 1-MCP treatment also resulted in lower microbial population compared to those of non-treated ginsengs at RT. However, in ginsengs stored at $4^{\circ}C$ for short-term (45 days), no differences were noted in weight loss and microbial population between 1-MCP treated and non-treated ginsengs. Major ginsenosides was not changed by 1-MCP treatment during the 7 days of storage at RT. Results suggest that 1-MCP treatment can be used to maintain the freshness of ginseng at room temperature for short term storage and at low temperature for long term storage. 1-MCP treatment could be applied on fresh ginseng to avoid deleterious effect of exogenous ethylene during storage and shipping.

Effects of Active Modified Atmosphere Packaging on the Storability of Fresh-cut Paprika (Active MAP가 파프리카 신선편이 저장성에 미치는 영향)

  • The processing techniques are need to use the non-marketable paprika fruit because paprika that is difficult crop for cultivation and produced easily non-marketable fruits, such as physiological disorder fruit, malformed fruit, and small size fruit. This study was carried out to investigate the proper active modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) condition for enhancing the storability of fresh-cut paprika fruit. The fresh-cut paprika (cv 'Score', seminis) put into $7cm{\times}0.7cm$ size and packed them in 20 g bags. The active MAP and vacuum treated paprika fruits were packaged with LLDPE/Nylon, EVOH, Tie film, and injected partial pressures of $CO_2$ and $O_2$, and $N_2$ in the packages immediately after sealing to treat active MAP. The ratio of $CO_2$, $O_2$, and $N_2$ of active MAP conditions were 0 : 20 : 80 (air), 5 : 5 : 90, 30 : 10 : 60, 10 : 70 : 20 and vacuum treatment did not contain any gas. The passive packaging treated paprika packaged with $40{\mu}m$ ceramic film. After 7 days of storage at $9^{\circ}C$, the fresh weight decreased less than 2% in all treatments, and showed lower in 5 : 5 : 90 ($CO_2:O_2:N_2$) active-MAP treatment and higher in vacuum treatment than other treatments. The $CO_2$ and $O_2$ concentration in packages did not change remarkably in active-MA treatments except 30 : 10 : 60 active-MAP treatment that showed sharply decreased $O_2$, concentration and increased $CO_2$ concentration at $1^{st}$ day of storage at $9^{\circ}C$. The ethylene concentration in package was the highest in 30 : 10 : 60 active-MAP treatment and the lowest in the passive MAP treatment that packaged with gas permeable film during $9^{\circ}C$ storage for 7 days. The 30 : 10 : 60 active-MAP treatments were not proper condition to storage fresh-cut paprika. The visual quality was maintained higher in 0 : 20 : 80 (air), 5 : 5 : 90, and 10 : 70 : 20 active MAP treatments and passive MAP treatment than others and the firmness, off-odor, and electrolyte leakage was investigated at 7th day of storage at $9^{\circ}C$. The 5 : 5 : 90 and 10 : 70 : 20 active-MAP treatment showed higher firmness and lower off-odor than other treatments after $7^{th}$ day of storage at $9^{\circ}C$. In addition, the electrolyte leakage was reduced less than 20% at 0 : 20 : 80 (air), 5 : 5 : 90, 10 : 70 : 20, and passive MA treatments. Therefore, 10 : 70 : 20 ($CO_2:O_2:N_2$) and 0 : 20 : 80 (air) might be recommended for proper active MAP conditions.

  • 미나리 묘를 대량으로 생산하는데 있어서 체세포배를 이용하는 방법이 매우 유리하다. 체세포배는 계절에 영향을 받지 않고 좁은 공간에서 한꺼번에 많은 량의 묘를 생산할 수 있다. 또한 생물반응기 등을 이용하여 대량 생산할 수 있으면 실생묘를 대체할 수 있을 것으로 생각된다. 배양기 내의 공기 환경의 영향은 삼각플라스크를 이용한 소규모 배양에서는 문제가 되지 않았지만 배양기가 커짐에 따라 공기 환경의 변화도 커져 체세포배의 발생과 발아에 영향을 미친다. 체세포배를 배양하는 기간은 배발생과 발아로 나누어, 세포에서 배가 발생하는 처음 2주 동안에는 밀폐 환경, 즉 환기가 거의 되지 않는 환경이 유리하지만 이후의 발아 동안에는 산소를 많이 요구한다. 삼각플라스크를 이용한 소규모 배양에서는 aluminum foil을 플라스크의 뚜껑으로 하여, 배지를 교체할 때를 제외하고는 배발생과 발아가 진행되는 전 배양 기간 동안 이를 유지한다. 배가 발생하는 초기 2주의 경우는 이 밀폐 환경이 발아를 촉진시킨다. 그러나 배가 발아하여 정상 식물체로 발달하는데는 유리하지 않다. 체세포배는 발아할 때 산소를 많이 필요로 하며 에틸렌이 많이 축적되면 발아율이 낮아지며, 적절한 공기 환경이 주어지면 체세포배 발아가 동조화되어 균일한 묘를 얻을 수 있고 수확시기도 예측할 수 있다. 본 실험에서는 배가 발아하는 기간 동안 플라스크 내의 공기 환경을 다르게 하기 위해 플라스크를 막는 뚜껑의 소재를 달리하여 배양한 후 발아율을 측정하였다. 또한 가장 효율적인 환기량을 구명하기 위하여 인위적으로 플라스크에 공기를 넣어 강제 환기시키는 실험을 수행하였다. 미나리 cell은 처음 8일까지는 생장을 하지 않다가 이후 급속히 생장을 시작하여 35일 정도까지는 생장을 하다가 다시 생장이 둔화되었다. 밀폐시킨 삼각플라스크에서 자라는 Cell은 상태도 좋지 않고 전반적인 증식량도 적었다. Cell은 환기정도에 민감한 것으로 판단되며 삼각플라스크에서 약 35일 정도의 생장 주기를 가지는 것으로 사료된다. 배양 3주까지는 플라스틱 뚜껑으로 밀폐시킨 bottle에서 가장 많은 체세포배를 얻었다. Air filter를 달아 2일 마다 신선한 공기를 넣어 주었을 때는 배의 발달이 많이 늦어져 배양 3주째에 다른 처리보다 배의 수가 훨씬 적었다. 체세포배가 발달하는 동안에는 산소를 많이 요구하지 않으나 성숙하는 동안에는 산소를 많이 요구하는 것으로 생각된다.

A Study on the Relationship of Explosion Characteristics and Combustion Heat of Gas Mixtures (가스 혼합물의 폭발압력과 연소열의 상관관계 연구)

  • Destruction phenomena of structure by gas explosion is due to the explosion pressure and heat. Explosion pressure is a kind of energy converted from the gas mixture explosion. In this paper, we tried to find the relationship between explosion characteristics and combustion heat of the hydrocarbon-oxygen mixtures. Experiment were carried out with the volume of $5916cm^3$ cylindrical explosion vessel. Hydrocarbon gases which used in this study were methane, ethylene, propane, and buthane Experimental parameter was the concentration of the gas mixtures. Explosion characteristics were measured with strain type pressure transducer through the digital storage oscilloscope. From the experimental result, it was found that explosion pressure depend upon the combustion heat.

The Effect of Cultivars, Cultivation Periods and Regions of Chicory on the Storability of Chicon During MA Storage (치커리의 재배일수, 재배지역 그리고 품종이 치콘의 MA 저장성에 미치는 영향)

  • Chicons are kinds of sprout vegetables which forced from the roots of chicory (Cichorium intybus L.). Experiments were performed to investigate the proper cultivation period and region of chicories which are 3 different cultivars for improving storability of chicon. The fresh weight of chicon packed with 20 ${\mu}m$ LDPE film decreased less than 0.5% during the storage at $10^{\circ}C$ in all treatments, and Chuncheon region treatment and 'Focus' cultivar treatment showed higher fresh weight loss than the others. And it decreased higher, as the cultivation periods was longer. The oxygen content in film was from 8% to 17% during storage at $10^{\circ}C$. There was not any significantly different oxygen content among cultivar treatments and cultivation region treatments, but 100 days' cultivation period treatment showed the highest content than the others. The carbon dioxide content in film showed around 3% during storage at $10^{\circ}C$. It also did not influenced by cultivars and cultivation regions, but 100 days' cultivation period treatment showed the lowest content than the others. The ethylene content in film was changed dramatically from 2 to 14 ${\mu}l{\cdot}l^{-1}$, and it showed around 8 ${\mu}l{\cdot}l^{-1}$ as approaching to 21 days after storage at $10^{\circ}C$. The visual quality of chicon deteriorated below marketability level from 12 days after storage at $10^{\circ}C$, and that of 'Metafora' cultivars decreased the highest. That of Pyeongchang region treatment was kept higher, and 'Vintor' cultivar treatment showed highest visual quality than the others which were grown in Pyeongchang region. The firmness of chicon increased, as the cultivation period was longer regardless of cutlivars and cultivation regions. The russet spotting that is ethylene injury symptom of chicon appeared at the latter term of storage and was higher in Chuncheon region treatment. Conculsionally, chicory that is for producing chicon should be grown more than 120 days in Kangwon region and grown in high-land region like Pyeongchang to improve the storability of chicon.
