The purpose of this study is to identify the appropriateness and validity of the HIV/AIDS nurse counselor's job, and to propose the job description. Mixed method was used: nominal group interview was used as a qualitative research and a survey was used as a quantitative research. Three of the nominal group members evaluated the appropriateness of the duties and tasks. To identify the validity of the evaluated duties and tasks, importance, difficulty and frequency were surveyed by 14 nurses who were working at the hospital as a HIV/AIDS nurse counselors. For the HIV/AIDS nurse counselor, 7 duties and 35 tasks - infection control of the HIV/AIDS, counseling, client advocacy, development of the educational material, referral to the resources, referral services at the hospital, and self-improvement - were identified. Proposed job description will be used as a reference for the role position and the training curriculum of the HIV/AIDS nurse counselors who are working at the hospital.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to analyze the needs of HIV/AIDS care and to develop the job description of HIV/AIDS Counselling nurse in Korea. Methods: The needs assessment was done by focus group interview with HIV/AIDS care recipients who are 16 persons living with HIV/AIDS and four their family members, seven persons from HIV/AIDS high risk group, and five nurses working on HIV/AIDS clinics. Based on the result of needs assessment, job description was developed using the DACUM. Mail survey was done to identify the frequency, importance, and difficulty of duties, tasks, and task elements. Results: The job description was classified under 8 duties, 36 tasks, and 290 task elements. Duties were categorized as needs assessment, health promotion and quality of life, improvement of treatment compliance, symptom care, health education, resource network, administrative activity, and career development. The importance of all duties and tasks showed high score from the survey, but the frequency and the performance level were middle range. Conclusion: It is suggested that the special training program based on the job description needs to be developed. In the political aspects, the introduction of HIV/AIDS nurse specialist certification could be considered.

Purpose: This aim of the present study was to assess a newly developed education program for HIV/AIDS counseling nurses. Methods: An education program was developed based on literature reviews, previous project analysis, focus group interview and expert meetings. The program comprised of 3 levels: basic, advanced, and intensive, which included 80, 70, and 60 hours of education, respectively. From May to December in 2012, 17 counseling nurses completed the program and we evaluated their learning achievements, attitudes towards AIDS, confidence in consultation, empathic ability, and training sessions. We also measured the nurses' satisfaction with the program before and after completion. Results: After completing a monthly education program lasting 12-15 hours, the nurses' mean learning achievement was 88.5%, 88.3% and 91.4% out of the basic, advanced, and intensive levels, respectively. Although the nurses' attitudes towards AIDS did not change, their confidence and empathic abilities increased following the basic and intensive components of the programs. Satisfaction with the educational sessions and program operation was 4.23 out of 5.0. Conclusion: This newly developed education program for HIV/AIDS counseling nurses promoted learning achievements as well as, confidence and empathic ability in consultation. HIV/AIDS counseling nurses should receive continuous education opportunities to enhance their potential.
