  • In Recent times, Netizens have frequently use virtual character 'Avatar' schemes in order to present their own identity, there is a strong need for avatars to resemble the user. This paper proposes an extraction technique for facial region and features that are used in generating the avatar automatically. For extraction of facial feature component, the method uses ACM and edge information. Also, in the extraction process of facial region, the proposed method reduces the effect of lights and poor image quality on low resolution pictures. this is achieved by using the variation of facial area size which is employed for external energy of ACM. Our experiments show that the success rate of extracting facial regions is $92{\%}$ and accuracy rate of extracting facial feature components is $83.4{\%}$, our results provide good evidence that the suggested method can extract the facial regions and features accurately, moreover this technique can be used in the process of handling features according to the pattern parts of automatic avatar generation system in the near future.

  • Dynamometer is a device for testing the performance of the brake and it is composed of a test zone, the mechanical inertia zone, the electric motor and the control zone. Hybrid dynamometer is a way to compensate for the loss of mechanical inertia in accordance with the brake operation by using an electric motor to reduce the size of the mechanical inertia with the advantage that can be tested in the relatively small size of the mechanical inertia and low cost. In this paper, design the proper size of hybrid dynamometer in the laboratory level with the space constraints, analysed the effect of critical parameter on the braking performance of hybrid dynamometer such as changing the friction coefficient. With this study, could get the results of guideline to judge the poor friction material by measuring the torque of the electric motor to compensate the energy loss due to a reduced mechanical inertia.

  • Many types of sensor data exhibit strong correlation in both space and time. Suppression, both temporal and spatial, provides opportunities for reducing the energy cost of sensor data collection. Unfortunately, existing clustering algorithms are difficult to utilize the spatial or temporal opportunities, because they just organize clusters based on the distribution of sensor nodes or the network topology but not correlation of sensor data. In this paper, we propose a novel clustering algorithm with suppression techniques. To guarantee independent communication among clusters, we allocate multiple channels based on sensor data. Also, we propose a spatio-temporal suppression technique to reduce the network traffic. In order to show the superiority of our clustering algorithm, we compare it with the existing suppression algorithms in terms of the lifetime of the sensor network and the site of data which have been collected in the base-station. As a result, our experimental results show that the size of data was reduced by $4{\sim}40%$, and whole network lifetime was prolonged by $20{\sim}30%$.

  • This paper proposes a new fire-flame detection method using probabilistic membership function of visual features and Fuzzy Finite Automata (FFA). First, moving regions are detected by analyzing the background subtraction and candidate flame regions then identified by applying flame color models. Since flame regions generally have continuous and an irregular pattern continuously, membership functions of variance of intensity, wavelet energy and motion orientation are generated and applied to FFA. Since FFA combines the capabilities of automata with fuzzy logic, it not only provides a systemic approach to handle uncertainty in computational systems, but also can handle continuous spaces. The proposed algorithm is successfully applied to various fire videos and shows a better detection performance when compared with other methods.

  • In this paper, the scintillation properties of $LaCl_3:Eu^{2+}$ crystal were investigated as new scintillator. This scintillation material was grown by a Czochralski method. $LaCl_3:Eu^{2+}$ was determined to have a hexagonal $P_63$/m space group with cell parameters a = b = $7.48{\AA}$, c = $4.37{\AA}$. Under 335 nm UV excitation, the crystal shows a broad emission band between 370 nm and 640 nm wavelength range, peaking at 430 nm. At room temperature, the crystal exhibits one exponential decay time component. The component of scintillation time profile of the crystal emission decays with a $2.82{\pm}0.72{\mu}s$ time constant. The energy resolution of the crystal was measured to be 8.8% (FWHM) for $^{137}Cs$ 662 keV ${\gamma}$-rays.

  • This work was conducted to investigate the oxidation characteristics of methane having the highest ignition temperature among the other hydrocarbon gases using transition metal catalysts. The catalyst used for methane oxidation was manganese oxide having a various oxidation number, such as MnO, $MnO_2$, $Mn_2O_3$, $Mn_3O_4$, $Mn_4O_5$. The manganese oxide(MnxOy) catalyst is impregnated on $TiO_2$, $Al_2O_3$ for methane oxidation. To enhanced both of activity and life time of catalysts, Ni and Co was used as a promoter. In this study, various co-catalysts were synthesized by using excess wet impregnation method. The effect of reaction temperature and space velocity was measured to calculate the activity of catalysts such as, activation energy of $T_{50}$, and $T_{90}$. The life time of bi-metallic manganese mixture, such as Mn-Co and Mn-Ni catalysts, were increased more 10 % than manganese oxide catalyst, but activity of those was decreased slightly.

  • A resonance linear electric generator in a vehicle suspension is a system that performs self-electric generation by collecting the vibration energy when a vehicle runs on a road, and takes the resonance phenomenon to derive large electric generation from slight road surface vibrations. In this paper, the motions of an armature in three different electric generator structures were simulated and the actual generation quantity was calculated and compared with these results. Furthermore, when the vehicle runs on the road, the design improvement for a multi-degree of freedom electric generator was conducted to make the resonance respond to various excitation frequencies, and the change in the resonance points and generation quantity were identified.

  • Outdoor lighting has become a necessary essential part of society for safety and comfortable space. However, inappropriate outdoor lighting leads to energy waste and poor landscape. Outdoor lighting is a very important social element, which enables us to conduct various activities at night in a safe, efficient and comfort way. River Thames in UK, Venice in Italy and Sydney in Australia is a good example of the coastal area. This paper aims to evaluate the light pollution of outdoor lighting in coastal area in Busan city. The Radiant Imaging ProMetric-1400 was used to measure the luminance of Gwangalli Beach, Marine City and Haeundae Beach. Compare to the CIE recommendation level the luminance of the all outdoor lighting were about 2~20 times higher. Outdoor lighting of the building facade luminance level and color should be particularly limited.

  • The physical effect induced by acoustic cavitation was investigated to accumulate basic data for the design of ultrasonic soil washing processes using aluminum foil erosion tests. A square aluminum foil was placed on the glass beads in the pyrex vessel submerged in the sonoreactor equipped with a 36 kHz ultrasound transducer module at the bottom. Cavitational erosion of foils was quantitatively analyzed for various glass bead diameter conditions (1, 2, and 4 mm), glass bead height conditions (5, 10, 15, and 20 mm), and water height conditions (5, 10, 15, and 20 mm). It was found that aluminum foil erosion significantly increased as the glass bead diameter increased and water height over the glass bead increased due to less attenuation of ultrasound and the optimization of sound field for cavitation. Moreover mechanical mixing was suggested to move constantly particles to the bottom area where the acoustic cavitation occurs most violently. It was because aluminium foil erosion by ultrasound transmitted through glass beads was relatively too weak.

  • A comfortable indoor environment is important considering that many hours are spent in residential or office space. A humidifier is used to control the indoor humidity. In particular, an element type humidifier has the advantage of a simple structure and low energy consumption. Two types of humidifiers - stationary or rotor - are commonly used for residential purposes. In this study, performance optimization was conducted for a rotor-type humidifying element used in a residential humidifier. The optimization included the rotation speed, water submersion depth, etc. The test range consisted of an open area to the air from 57 to 90%, rotation speed from 0.2 to 2.0 rpm, frontal air velocity from 0.5 to 2.5 m/s. The results showed that the optimal open area to air was 70%. On the other hand, the effects of the rotation speed on the moisture transfer rate was negligible. On the other hand, the pressure drop increased with increasing rotation speed. As the frontal air velocity increased, both the moisture transfer rate and pressure drop increased. The humidification capacity of the present element was 0.08 ~ 0.31 kg/hr. A comparison of the data with the theoretical results was made.
