A study on the avatar modelling of Korean 3D facial features in twenties (한국인 20대 안면의 3차원 형태소에 의한 아바타 모델링)

  • 사이버상의 의사소통의 도구로 사용되는 아바타나 캐릭터의 3차원 얼굴 모델링에 대한 연구로서 한국인의 안면형태소를 지닌 모델생성으로 인터넷을 즐겨 사용하는 현대인과 청소년들에게 민족적 구체성과 국민적 정체성을 지닌 아바타의 활용에 도움이 되고자 한다. 임의의 20대 남, 녀 각각 40인으로부터 스켄을 하고 머리뼈와 근육 구조를 바탕으로 눈, 코, 눈썹, 뺨, 입, 턱, 아래턱, 이마, 귀 등 각 형태소로 나누고 참조모델을 생성한다. 임의로 생성된 안면형태소 3차원 모델이 한국인의 형상을 갖는지에 관한 평가를 정량적인 치수측정에 의해서 검증 분석하여 입증한다. 이들 안부, 비부, 구순부, 얼굴형의 각 형태소로부터 각 형태소틀 간에 보간 되어 변형된 형태의 형태소 생성이 가능하고, 이 변형 형태소들 간의 임의의 조합된 모델의 안면 생성이 가능하게 한다.

  • 최근 영화나 드라마 같은 미디어 데어터가 폭발적으로 증가하면서, 다양한 언어로 번역된 자막 데이터도 증가하고 있다. 이러한 자막은 대부분 화면 하단이나 우측에 위치가 고정되어 나타내는 방식을 취하고 있다. 그러나 이 방식에는 몇 가지 한계점을 가지고 있다. 자막과 등장인물의 얼굴이 거리가 먼 경우, 시청자의 시선이 분산되어 영상에 집중하기 어렵다는 점과 청각장애를 가진 사람의 경우 자막만으로는 누가 말하고 있는 대사인지 혼동이 온다는 점이다. 본 논문에서는 만화에서 대사를 전달하기 위해 사용하던 말풍선을 동영상의 자막을 나타내는데 사용하는 새로운 자막 시스템을 제안한다. 말풍선을 사용하면 말꼬리로 화자의 위치를 가리키고, 시청자의 시선을 화자의 얼굴 근처에 집중시킴으로써 기존 자막이 갖는 한계점을 개선시킬 수 있다. 본 연구의 결과물을 검증하기 위해 사용자 평가를 실시했고, 기존의 자막 방식에 비해 시선의 안정성과 흥미성, 정확도에서 더 낫다는 결과를 얻을 수 있었다.

  • 생체 암호 시스템에서 키로 사용하는 인간의 생체 특징은 외부 환경이나 인간적 요소를 포함하고 있기 때문에 항상 같은 개수, 같은 값의 데이터를 얻을 수 없는 불확실성을 가지고 있다. 퍼지볼트 체계 (Fuzzy vault scheme) [1]는 이러한 불확실성을 가지고 있는 데이터의 특성을 효과적으로 반영 할 뿐만 아니라, 등록된 생체 데이터의 보안을 보장해 주는 알고리즘으로서 얼굴, 지문이나 홍채와 같은 단일 생체 특징으로의 적용 방법이 소개되어 왔다 [2,4,5]. 본 논문에서는 퍼지볼트 시스템의 인식 성능을 높이기 위해 이러한 단일 생체 데이터의 불확실성을 보완할 수 있는 다중 생체 특징 (얼굴과 지문) 데이터를 퍼지볼트 체계에 적용하는 방법을 제안하고 실효성을 검증한다.

Automatic Cast-list Analysis System in Broadcasting Videos (방송 비디오 등장인물 자동 분석 시스템)

  • In this paper, we propose a system that can analyze appearance interval of casts by detecting and recognizing casts in broadcasting videos. The cast is one of the most important characteristics in broadcasting videos such as drama and sports. In this paper, we propose the ACAV(Automatic Cast-list Analysis in Videos) system that analyzes cast-list automatically in video. The ACAV system consists of FAGIS(FAce reGIStration) which registers detected faces into the face DB and FACOG(FAce reCOGnition) that analyses the cast-list in video sequence using the face DB. We evaluate performance of the ACAV system by comparing with FaceIt, one of the most well-known commercial systems for the cast-list analysis. The ACAV shows face detection and recognition rates of 84.3% and 75.7% that are about 30% and 27.5% higher than those of FaceIt, respectively. The ACAV system can be applied to mass broadcasting videos management system for broadcasters and video management system of PVR(Personal Video Recorder) and mobile phone for the public.

Distinction of Real Face and Photo using Stereo Vision (스테레오비전을 이용한 실물 얼굴과 사진의 구분)

  • In the devices that leave video records, it is an important issue to distinguish whether the input image is a real object or a photo when securing an identifying image. Using a single image and sensor, which is a simple way to distinguish the target from distance measurement has many weaknesses. Thus, this paper proposes a way to distinguish a simple photo and a real object by using stereo images. It is not only measures the distance to the target, but also checks a three-dimensional effect by making the depth map of the face area. They take pictures of the photos and the real faces, and the measured value of the depth map is applied to the learning algorithm. Exactly through iterative learning to distinguish between the real faces and the photos looked for patterns. The usefulness of the proposed algorithm was verified experimentally.

Avatar's Lip Synchronization in Talking Involved Virtual Reality (대화형 가상 현실에서 아바타의 립싱크)

  • Having a virtual talking face along with a virtual body increases immersion in VR applications. As virtual reality (VR) techniques develop, various applications are increasing including multi-user social networking and education applications that involve talking avatars. Due to a lack of sensory information for full face and body motion capture in consumer-grade VR, most VR applications do not show a synced talking face and body. We propose a novel method, targeted for VR applications, for talking face synced with audio with an upper-body inverse kinematics. Our system presents a mirrored avatar of a user himself in single-user applications. We implement the mirroring in a single user environment and by visualizing a synced conversational partner in multi-user environment. We found that a realistic talking face avatar is more influential than an un-synced talking avatar or an invisible avatar.

A Study on a Smart Digital Signage Using Bayesian Age Estimation Technique for the Next Generation Airport Service (차세대 공항 서비스를 위한 베이지안 연령추정기법을 이용하는 스마트 디지털 사이니지에 대한 연구)

  • We propose an age estimation-based smart digital signage for the next-generation airport service. The proposed system can recognize the face of the customer so that it can display the selective information. Using a webcam, the system captures the face of the customer and estimates the age of the customer by calculating the wrinkle density of the face and applying bayesian classifier. The developed age estimation method is tested with a face database for the performance evaluation. We expect the new digital signage may improve the satisfaction of customers of the airport business.

  • For image processing hardware, including a face detecting engine, efficient constitution of external and internal memories is a consequential point because huge memory is required to store various signal processing filters and incoming images. In this paper, we modified a face detect algerian of a general filter method for efficient hardware design. In the hardware, several memory design techniques are presented for efficient handling of image data : re-accessing avoidance with minimized internal memory usage, residing frequently accessed memory and sequence memory accessing. The hardware which can process 25 frame image data per one second with 40KB internal memory was verified by using ARM(S3C2440A) and Virtex4 FPGA and it is being fabricated as a ASIC chip using Samsung CMOS 0.18um technology.

An Efficient Anchor Range Extracting Algorithm for The Unit Structuring of News Data (뉴스 정보의 단위 구조화를 위한 효율적인 앵커구간 추출 알고리즘)

  • This paper proposes an efficient algorithm extracting anchor ranges that exist in news video for the unit structuring of news. To this purpose, this paper uses anchors face in the frame rather than the cuts where the scene changes are occurred. In anchor range, we find the end position (frame) of anchor range with the FRFD(Face Region Frame Difference). On the other hand, in not-anchor range, we find the start position of anchor range by extracting anchors face. The process of extracting anchors face is consists of two parts to enhance the computation time for WPEG decoding. The first pact is to find candidates of anchors face through rough analysis with partial decoding MPEG and the second part is to verify candidates of anchors face with fully decoding. It is possible to use the result of this process in basic step of news analysis. Especially, the fast processing and the high recall rate of this process are suitable to apply for the real news service.

  • Facial expression is an important means of representing characteristics in movies and animations, and facial capture technology can support the production of facial animation for 3D characters more quickly and effectively. Blendshape techniques are the most widely used methods for producing high-quality 3D face animations, but traditional blendshape often takes a long time to produce. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to achieve results that are not far behind the effectiveness of traditional production to reduce the production period of blend shape. In this paper, in order to make a blend shape, the method of using the cross-model to convey the blend shape is compared with the traditional method of making the blend shape, and the validity of the new method is verified. This study used kit boy developed by Unreal Engine as an experiment target conducted a facial capture test using two blend shape production techniques, and compared and analyzed the facial effects linked to blend shape.
