The Characteristic of Media Consumer and Legal Principles for Consumer Movements Protection (언론소비자의 특성과 소비자운동의 보호법리 - 광고불매운동을 중심으로)

  • This study is aimed to analyze the concept of media consumer and legal principles for consumer movements protection. Based on the concept and legal principles, this research is to review the characteristics of the advertisement boycott campaign. Article 124 of the Constitution prescribes that the state should guarantee the consumer protection movements. According to the Article 4 of the Framework Act on Consumer, consumers have the fundamental right to obtain proper compensation for damages sustained due to use of goods and etc. according to prompt and fair procedure. The type of boycott can be classified into two pattern on the basis of boycott's target or object. They are primary boycott and. secondary boycott. Consumer's boycott independent of primary or secondary, are under the protection of the consumer's right. Media consumers use scarce resources to satisfy their wants and needs to acquire news information and advertising information. Their resources are time and money. Therefore, ads boycott campaign or media boycott campaign is the primary boycott. Consumer's right should be guaranteed to the maximum. The Constitution and consumer protection law should protect the practice of consumer's right, especially consumer's boycott campaign.

How Does Media Reports Affect Consumers' Attitude toward the Telecommunication Expense? (언론보도에 따른 소비자의 이동통신비 인식에 대한 연구)

  • This paper examined how consumers' attitude toward the telecommunication expense was affected by news reports through the experiment. Participants were randomly assigned to one of four group (control group, high-expense-claimed-media group, low-expense-claimed-media group, and both-exposed-media group), and asked to indicate credibility & neutrality toward media report, similarity between media report, and their own thought, their attitude toward the telecommunication expense. The result of ANOVA showed that the high-expense-claimed-media was perceived more credible and neutral than the low-expense-claimed-media. ANCOVA was conducted to eliminate the impact of similarity between media report and their own thought on the evaluation of credibility & neutrality toward media report, and the result showed that there was no difference. Also, participants evaluated the telecommunication service so expensive, regardless of what kind of media reports they were exposed. We found that consumers' prior belief, which telecommunication service was expensive, might interrupt consumers' learning process for new information from media. To resolve the social pressure about mobile service rate-cutting, it is necessary to investigate how to dampen consumers' stereotype about the telecommunication expense. The future research using the framing effect could be considerable.

  • 지난 2004년도는 식품 안전에 대한 사회적 이슈가 어느 해보다 뜨거웠다. 조류독감과 광유병, 불량만두소 사건 등의 식품사건이 연일 언론을 달구었고, 또 정부의 부정불량식품의 대한 규제강화 발표 등으로 식품 안전에 대한 사회적 관심이 고조되었다. 또한 이러한 식품 안전에 대한 사회적 이슈는 식품에 대한 소비자의 불신으로 이어지면서 과거에는 단순히 여기었던 식품 클레임에 대해서도 매우 민감한 반응을 보이면서 식품업계의 클레임이 예년보다 급증하였다. 뿐만 아니라 소비자의 클레임 제기 유형도 회사에 직접 제기하는 경우도 있지만 특히 포탈사이트. 언론 고발, 대형 유통 채널, 소비자단체, 정부기관 등의 다양한 채널을 이용하는 경우도 증가하고 있는 실정이다. 특히 정부의 식품위생법개정(안)의 유해식품 신고에 대한 고액의 포상금 지급이 발표되면서 악의든 선의든 소비자의 클레임에 대한 무리한 피해보상 요구도 날로 증가하고 있고, 또 이를 이용하는 식파라치와 악성소비자도 나타나게 되었다. 따라서 이러한 식품 안전에 대한 문제는 앞으로도 지속될 것이고, 또 식품의 클레임에 대해서도 더욱 강성화될 것으로 예상된다. 그러므로 이러한 사회적 환경 속에서 클레임에 대한 올바른 소비자 대응을 위한 클레임 처리 방안을 모색하지 않을 수 없다. 이에 클레임(claim)이란 무엇이며, 또 그 유형들은 어떤 것이 있는지 그리고 클레임의 대응 방법 및 Q&A를 살펴보고자 한다.

A legal approach and interpretation of article typed advertisements of online sport media as exaggerated advertisements (온라인 기사형 광고의 허위 및 과대·과장광고로써의 법률적 접근과 해석)

  • The purpose of this research, paying attention on the exaggerated advertisements on online sport media, was to investigate the illegality of the article typed advertisement of online sport media. The results of this research were as follows; First, the article typed advertisements are the assets of the media company as other articles or advertisements. Second, the persons of capacity to act are defined with sport online media, advertiser and customers. Third, the exaggerated advertisements of the sport online media and advertiser are regulated by Korean legal system. Fourth, when victims occurred, the rights of claim for damages could be activated based on the article 750 of the Korean Civil Law. Fifth, the liability for damages may be imposed by Korean Civil Law to the sport online media restrictively.

The Effects of Corporate Corresponding Time on the Negativity Publicity (부정적 언론보도에 대한 기업의 대응시점 효과)

  • Product harm crises can distort long standing favorable equality perceptions, tarnish a company's reputation, cause major revenue and market-share losses, lead to costly product recalls, and devastate a carefully nurtured brand equity. However, in spite of the devastating impact of product-harm crises, little systematic research exists to asses its marketing consequences. So, this study focuses on the negative publicity about companies and their products. Namely, this study presented how inclusion effect supported the relationship between negative publicity and consumers' response, market performance. According to the results, after negativity publicity was happened, it was appeared that the negativity image spread into other product lines(spillover effect; inclusion effect). Also, when they contact with the negative publicity, respondents negatively evaluated both production evaluation and corporate evaluation. And, in that case of the products with negativity publicity, compared with refutation strategy(defense strategy<study 2>), improving strategy(correction notice) had positive influence on recovery of sales, product evaluation, and corporate evaluation. Finally, as the reaction time toward negativity publicity was faster, the market performance got worse. Especially, according to two-way interaction, when the reaction time was fast, the difference between refutation strategy(defense strategy<study 2>) and improving strategy was not existed in product evaluation and corporate evaluation. However, when the reaction time was late(after a month), improving strategy had more positive evaluation than defense strategy in product evaluation, and corporate evaluation.

Frame Analysis on Risk Reporting: Food Safety Reports from 1989 to 2005 (위험보도의 위기구축 기제 프레임 분석: 식품안전 보도를 중심으로)

  • This frame analysis attempts to shed light on the process by which the Korean press constructs crisis as social reality through a series of risk reporting on food safety. Based on the FSSI(Food Safety Sentiment Index) developed by KIHASA(Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs), 11 cases of food safety reports from 1989 to 2005 were collected from the Korean Integrated News Database System(KINDS) and analyzed to yield the following salient features: risk diffusion frame; attribution of responsibility frame; conflict frame. It was observed that the press exhibited a tendency to approach the food safety incidents from a bi-polarized perspective, amplifying dichotomy between the victim and the perpetrator rather than treating them as scientific, or environmental hazards that require precise and synthesized information for resolution. This occupational habit of attributing status to agents of news was also found to contribute towards construction of crisis as social reality.
