The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship among children's ADHD symptoms, parenting stress and behavior regarding nurturing. The data were provided by 59 mothers of children with ADHD who is aged between 4 and 12. Mothers of children with ADHD were recruited through 3 departments of child psychiatry. The Korean version of Parenting Stress Index-Short Form, the Korean version of revised Maternal Behavior research Instrument(MBRI) and ADHD Rating Scale(K-ARS) was used to assess parenting stress, behavior regarding nurturing and ADHD symptoms respectively. Significant correlation was found between parental distress and warmth, rejection behavior. Parental distress is significant influence on behavior regarding nurturing through multiple regression analysis. Significant correlation was found between ADHD symptom and rejection behavior. ADHD symptom is significant influence on behavior regarding nurturing through multiple regression analysis. Behavior regarding nurturing is related to ADHD symptom, parental distress. Therefore, it is needed for not only treatment related to ADHD symptom but also interventions for behavior regarding nurturing for mothers of children with ADHD.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the level of mothers' parenting stress according to the knowledge and behaviors that mothers have on infant development. The subjects of this study are 145 mothers whose infants range in age from 18 to 36 months. The instruments used are: 1) Knowledge of Child Development Inventory (KCDI) (Larsen & Juhasz, 1986), 2) Q-sort modified by Ahn (2001), 3) Parenting Stress Scale (PSS) (Kim & Kang, 1997), and a demographic questionnaire. The data analyses used SPSS 12.0 which employs basic statistics, a reliability test, ANOVA and Pearson's correlation. The results of this study indicate a correlation (r= -.20*) between behaviors of child-rearing and parenting stress of mothers. Specifically, mothers behaviors of child-rearing related to cognition development could predict parenting stress.
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of mothers' parenting beliefs and supportive interaction on maternal parenting stress. It also examined variations of the results by household income levels and mothers' employment status. Participants of the study were 770 mothers of children aged 23-31 months who were a part of the 2010 wave of the National Survey for Panel Study on Korean Children. The analyses revealed that parenting stress was affected by mothers' parenting beliefs and supportive interaction. Mothers' supportive interaction has been shown significantly to predict parenting stress in all four groups of this study. The results demonstrated that the strength of the relationship between parenting stress and parenting beliefs and reciprocal interaction varied based on the combination of income and work status. These findings suggested that income and employment status are important to examine collectively.
This study aims to examine the moderating effects of father's parenting participation on the effects of mother's parenting stress on children's problematic behavior. To reveal this, the 3rd year data of Panel Study on Korean Children was analyzed. The results of the analysis are like below. First, mother's parenting stress was a main factor having effects on children's internalization and externalization. The correlation and regression analysis showed that mother's parenting stress had positive effects on children's internalization and externalization. Second, father's parenting participation had no effects on children's problematic behavior. Third, mother's parenting stress had effects on children's internalization based on the interactions with father's parenting participation. In other words, father's parenting participation had moderating effects on the effects of mother's parenting stress on children's contraction and depression/anxiety. Based on it, the educational and welfare suggestions were made.
This study was to focus on the effect on parenting stress of children's developmental characteristics, emotionality and mother's self-efficacy, thus to set the structure equation model. Analysis data was collected from 2078 newborns to be involved Korea Children's Panel 1st year. The valuables were all measured by mothers. The main results of this study were as follows. First, children's developmental characteristics and emotionality had an effect on parenting stress directly. A lower level of children's developmental characteristics and a higher level of children's emotionality indicated a higher maternal parenting stress level. Second, mother's self-efficacy also had an effect on parenting stress level. A lower level of maternal self-efficacy demonstrated a higher level of maternal parenting stress level. Third, children's developmental characteristics and emotionality had an effect on parenting stress indirectly through mother's self-efficacy. Mother's self-efficacy which was affected by children's developmental characteristics and emotionality aggravated mother's parenting stress. The implication of these findings are also discussed.
This study aimed to explore the causal relationship between an infant-mother's job satisfaction, psychological features, parenting stress and marital conflict through structural equation modeling. Specifically, we tried to identify influences of an infant-mother's job satisfaction on parenting stress and marital conflict and demonstrated how psychological features (self-efficacy, self-esteem, and depression) were mediated by these influences by using a sample of 444 Korean infant-mothers with jobs from the 3rd year of Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey with AMOS 20.0. First, the results demonstrated that job satisfaction of an infant-mother positively related to their self-efficacy and self-esteem whereas negatively related to depression among psychological features. Furthermore, job satisfaction of an infant-mother showed negative relationships with parenting stress and marital conflict. Second, an infant-mother's job satisfaction did predict marital conflict, but not parenting stress. However, these job satisfactions were mediated by an infant-mother's psychological factors. Findings were discussed with regard to the relationship between an infant-mother's job satisfaction, parenting stress, and martial conflict in the family counseling implications.

This study examined the mediating effect of parenting stress on the influence of self-differentiation of mothers in multicultural families on their learned helplessness. The study determined the correlation between the following variables: self-differentiation, learned helplessness, and the parenting stress of mothers in multicultural families. The study was conducted on mothers who are raising children in multicultural families and 193 cases of supplementary data were finally analyzed. The data derived from the survey was analyzed using the SPSS 23.0 and AMOS 23.0 programs. The results of the analysis are as follows. First, the self-differentiation of mothers in multicultural families showed a negative effect on parenting stress and the mothers' learned helplessness, while parenting stress had a positive effect on the mothers' learned helplessness. Parenting stress was found to have a mediating effect on the relationship between the self-differentiation and the learned helplessness of mothers in multicultural families. This study suggests that the mothers of multicultural families may decrease parenting stresses and learned helplessness by increasing the level of self-differentiation in the context of cultural differences and adapting to new societies.
The following research is based on a strengths perspective for analyzing the effects of adaptation resilience on parenting stress. The subject were 170mothers whose children have developmental disabilities and attend pre-school and social welfare centers for early education. The results were following: 1) The order of dimensional scores from highest to lowest were social resources, structuralization of personality, social achievement, personal strengths, perception of future, strength of family cohesion. 2) The parenting stress of the subjects came out to be lower than average scoring 2.71 out of 5. Dimensionally, grief of parents came out to be the highest. 3) Adaptation resilience and parenting stress for subjects exhibited a negative correlation. Within adaptation resilience, the dimensions of perception of future, personal strengths, social resources came out to be factors that have significant effects on parenting stress. 4) factors relating to the mother's adaptation resilience were more important than general characteristics belonging to handicapped children and their mothers for the purpose of explaining and predicting parenting stress.
