A Study on the Development of Children's Library Classification (어린이도서 분류법의 개발에 관한 연구)

  • Currently, our country doesn't have standard children's library classification whose development reflects characteristics of children's library and children's books, and for this, not only the children's library working staffs but also users have to deal with a lot of discomforts and difficulties. This study was to take into account these facts of reality and attempted to develop Children's Library Classification (CLC) that is widely applicable to children's libraries. For this, the paper examined the category of children's books and analyzed classification conditions of children's library. Based on this examination and analysis, the paper developed CLC. This study finds its meaning in that the CLC developed by this study was based on KDC, was newly reformed for children's library, and was developed by reflecting the characteristics of children's library and children's books as much as possible in the formation of classification category and progression level per subject; the author expects that it could actually be applied to classification of children's books regardless of the size and type of children's libraries.

  • 어린이 도서연구회는 어린이를 도서 선택의 주체로 인식하고 국내 어린이 교육문화 운동을 실천하기 위해 설립된 단체다. 이곳에서는 어린이 책을 연구하고 좋은 책을 골라 권장하는 등 어린이 삶을 바르게 가꾸기 위한 활발한 활동을 펼쳐오고 있다. 본지에서는 제16회 간행물윤리상 시상식에서 독서진흥상을 수상한 부길만 어린이도서연구회 이사장(한국출판문화학회장, 동원대학 교학처장)을 만나 대담을 나누는 자리를 마련했다.

  • Korean picture books have been recognized for their value as cultural products in the international publication markets. As results of analysis of publishing situation of Korea picture books that have been introduced in the inside and outside of the country, knowledge information picture books for education are mainly exported to China, and picture books of traditional culture and books about Korean emotions to Japan and France. Specially in France, fantasy picture books in various genres and themes, and picture books with various attempts expanded the boundary to children's literature have been introduced. Based on this situation, Korean Libraries can discuss and present their roles and extensional plans of picture books as reading contents and also fine cultural contents in other country.

  • 어린이에게 좋은 도서를 제공할 의무와 책임을 지고 있는 대표적인 기관은 도서관이다. 사서는 어린이를 위한 좋은 도서에 대한 정보를 요구하는 개인이나 단체를 위하여 상담과 조언을 할 수 있어야 한다. 그러나 현실적으로 출판물의 양적인 측면을 고려하면 사서가 어린이의 발달 단계에 적합하면서 좋은 책의 기준도 충족시키는 도서들을 선정하는 작업은 간단한 일이 아니다. 이상적인 관점에서 본다면, 도서를 선정하는 사서가 구입할 모든 책을 좋은 책의 평가 기준에 근거해서 살펴보는 것이 이상적이지만 한정된 시간 내에 모든 책을 자세하게 살펴보고 평가하는 일은 실제 업무상황을 고려할 때 거의 불가능한 일이다.   • This study was to suggest the improvement and the application of KDC 6 for classifying children's books by the literature review and survey. First, it was suggested to shorten the classification numbers by the divisions and subdivisions and to expand the classification numbers by sub-subdivisions according to the library-specific classification policy, using the subject statistics of the children's books held by 20 public libraries affiliated in Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education and representative C libraries. Second, the knowledge picture books and the fairy tales were suggested to be classified according to its subject, and the fairy tales in each country were suggested to be classified by adding sub-subdivisions and genre subdivisions. Third, it was suggested to shelve by collection and location codes that were distinguished by the ages and the reading level for user, to prepare a standard guideline for shelving, and to implement the regular user education about the classification system. This study could contribute to the development of the KDC abridged version for children's books in the future.

  • Recommended book lists make 'a good book' known and help choose the books. Currently, the recommended book lists published by various institutions are primarily used as the selection tool for choosing children's and young adults' book in many libraries and schools. Considering this reality, I examined the present production condition of the recommended book lists and evaluated whether they were suitable as a selection tool. Afterwards, I suggested the development methods about how the recommended book lists will be developed for them to function as a selection tool.

  • 어린이도서관에 대한 사회적 관심이 증폭되고 있다. 올해 초부터 MBC TV '!느낌표‘의 ’기적의 도서관 프로젝트‘가 가동되었고, 지난 2월 20일 서울시 노원구청에서는 지자체 최초의 어린이도서관인 ’노원어린이도서관‘을 개관한 바 있다. 이렇듯 어린이도서관 만들기 운동은 전국의 어린이들과 아동교육 관계자들의 뜨거운 지지와 격려를 받고 있다. 이와 관련해 지난 3월 12일 부산여자대학에서 어린이도서관을 개관했다는 소식을 접했다. 대학에서 어린이도서관을 개관했다기에 본지에서 이에 대한 내용을 좀 더 자세히 다루고자 부산여자대학 정영재 어린이도서관장과 서면인터뷰를 하였다.

  • Book review Is a mean that provides Qualitative evaluation and at the same time it plays a role as selection tools for libraries. Therefore, this study Identified various media providing reviews on children's books, evaluated whether the reviews in the media were useful as selection tools of current books, and a desirable model for the book review media that would reform the existing problems was suggested. The efforts to make up for the above suggestions are needed, so that the current children's book review media can properly play a role as selection tools. Above all, at this point in time, it is necessary to publish review media made in the view of libraries and librarians.

  • This Study analyzes the present's children library movement. For this, this research deals with 'Library Movement of Miracle' by Citizen Action for Reading Culture. 'Mini-Library Making Movement in Bucheon' and 'Children Mini-Library Movement' by a variety of Nongovernmental organizations. The writer looks into contents, characteristics, meanings and limitations of these Movements. In conclusion, the writer suggests the direction of children library movement in the future.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the trends of children's services research in Korea. A total of 113 research articles were selected from 4 journals in Library and Information Science. Articles were analyzed in the aspects of research subjects, research methods, author types, and research funds. The writer discussed the problems shown in the articles and suggested some recommendations for the development of research.
