The present paper is concerned to the thermal analysis during the cool-down period of 138,000 m$^3$class GTT MARK-III membrane type LNG carrier servicing with LNG from the Middle East to Korea. It is the cool-down period that cools the insulation wall and the gas in LNG tank to avoid the thermal shock as the start of loading of -162$^{\circ}C$ LNG. For six hours of the standard cool-down period, the temperature of NG falls down from -4$0^{\circ}C$ to -13$0^{\circ}C$ and especially the mean temperature of the 1st barrier in the top side insulation wall falls down from -38.38$^{\circ}C$ to -122.42$^{\circ}C$ in case of IMO design condition. By the 3-D numerical calculation about the cargo tank and the cofferdam, the temperature variation in hulls and insulations is precisely predicted in this paper. And the mean temperature variation of gas is calculated as the function of the spraying rate by the heat balance model during the cool-down period.
Liquefied natural gas undergoes a process of vaporization to be supplied as city gas, which generates about 800 kJ/kg of cold energy. Currently, all of this cold energy is being dumped into the sea, resulting in a very serious energy waste from the point of view of energy recycling. In this study, a seawater desalination process that can utilize the wasted cold energy was proposed, and this process was optimized to analyze the specific power consumption and economic feasibility. As a result, the specific energy consumption of the proposed process was calculated as -5.2kWh/m3, and the production cost of the pure water was 0.148 USD/m3, confirming that it is superior to any other process developed so far.

Until recently, ships, automobiles, and drones using hydrogen energy are being actively researched. In addition, stations and facilities for hydrogen supply are being developed widely. Among them, a hydrogen pump is necessary for compressing it and transfer to other stations. The liquid hydrogen pump is operated at very high pressure up to 90 MPa. In our research, a reciprocating plunger pump is studied. Especially, a leakage in a liquid hydrogen pump is predicted using a finite element method. As a result, it was found that leak mass flow rates changed from 0.09 to 2.20 kg/h, when the gaps were given from 2 to 6 ㎛. Thus pump efficiencies were calculated from 99.9 to 97.9%, when the gaps changed from 2 to 6 ㎛. These results are useful for the design of the liquid hydrogen pump.
Lignin is usable as fuels and heavy oil additives if depolymerized to monomer unit, because the chemical structures are similar to high octane materials found in gasoline. In this study, the solvent-phase thermal cracking(solvolysis) of lignin was performed at the various temperature and time in a laboratory tubular reactor. Conversion yield was measured for the properties of thermal cracking and liquefaction reaction of lignin. Highest conversion yield when acetone was used as thermal cracking solvent was 55.5% at $350^{\circ}C$, 50minutes and highest tar generation were $260{\sim}350mg/g\;{\cdot}\;lignin$ at $250^{\circ}C$, and highest conversion yield after tar removal was 76.88% at $300^{\circ}C$, 30minutes. Conversion yield, product compositions and amounts were determined by tar degradation yield.

Structural analysis is performed to design anchor straps for a large-scale-liquefied-natural-gas (LNG) storage tank with corner protection and an inner tank by considering structural integrity. Anchor straps made of 9% nickel steel are attached to the inner tank, corner protection, and concrete raft to prevent the failure of the inner tank during both normal and emergency operating conditions. Two finite element (FE) models were analyzed in this study. One is a stand-alone model of the anchor strap, while the other is an extended model of the substructure of the anchor strap, inner tank, and corner protection. Three-dimensional shell elements are used to effectively assess the bending and axial behavior of structures. The Tresca stress values in each part of the two models are calculated for operation under five different load-condition cases: normal operation, leakage of the LNG, hydro test, and two earthquake conditions.
Natural gas liquefaction process which spends a huge amount energy is operated under cryogenic conditions. Thus, many researchers have studied on minimizing energy consumption of LNG plant. However, a few studied for cost optimization have performed. This study focused on the cost analysis for the single mixed refrigerant (SMR) process, one of the simplest natural gas liquefaction process, which has different capacity. The process capacity is increased from 1 million ton per annum (MTPA) to 2.5 MTPA by 0.5 MTPA steps. According to the increase of plant size, only flow rate of natural gas and mixed refrigerant are increased and other operating conditions are fixed. Aspen Economic Evaluator(v.8.7) is used for the cost analysis and six tenths factor rule is applied to obtain multi stream heat exchanger cost data which is not supplied by Aspen Economic Evaluator. Moreover, the optimal plant sizes for different sizes of gas wells are found as the result of applying plant cost to small scale gas wells, 20 million ton (MT), 40 MT, and 80 MT. Through this cost analysis, the foundation is built to optimize LNG plant in terms of the cost.

A study on tile processing of liquefied fish protein with a long self life and good solubility has been carried out for the effective utilization of sardine. The whole sadine was chopped, homogenized with same amount of water and then hydrolyzed by the addition of commercial proteolytic enzyme. The hydrolysate was centrifuged and the supernatant was decolorized with active carbon, desodorized by azeotropic distillation with toluene, xylene and cyclohexane. The liquefied sardine protein was then concentrated by rotary vacuum evaporator with the addition of starch. The use of $0.2\%$ commercial proteolytic enzyme to the weight of the whole sardine showed the optimum hydrolysis ratio at $55^{\circ}C$ for 4 hours. The liquefied sardine protein could be decolorized and also desodorized by the treatment with $15\%$ active carl]on at room temperature for 30 minuted. In the view point of lipid concentration and the solubility of the product, the liquefied sardine protein prepared by enzymic hydrolysis from the sardine protein concentrate was better than that prepared by enzymic hydrolysis from the whole sardine and sardine protein concentrate.
For fuel alcohol production, enzymatic liquefaction and saccharification of tapioca starch by ${\alpha}$-amylase and glucoamylase were studied. The thermophilic ${\alpha}$-amylase Termamyl produced from Bacillus licheniformis gave a better liquefaction than the relalively low temperature enzyme BAN from B. subtilis. Oplimal temperature and pH with Termamyl were $90∼95^{\circ}C$ and 5.8, respectively. Minimal amount of Termamyl 240uc for a satisfactory liquefaction for a two-hour reaction was about 0.0125% (v/w) with respect to the mass of tapioca used. For saccharification experiments two enzymes, Novo AMG and Do-I1 enzymes were compared. The enzymatic activity of each enzyme was a little different depending on the substrate used and the latter was found to have a significant amount of ${\alpha}$-amylase activity. With Novo AMG optimal temperature was about $58^{\circ}C$ The pH optimum was 4.3 with maltose, however, with tapioca, no difference was observed between pH 4.3 and 5.7 which is a natural, unadjusted pH of liquefied tapioca. For 85% of completion of saccharification, it was necessary to use 0.0625% (v/w) of Novo AMG 400L for tapioca and to run the reaction for more than 10 hr, Packed volume of solid particles in tapioca slurry remained at around 30% during liquefaction and saccharification. This indicates that the removal of the solid particle before fermentation is not economically feasible at all, even though the solid particles make it very difficult to operate the bioreactor in a continuous mode with cell-recycle.
Hemicellulose, consisteing of pentose as xylose and mannose, is usable as high octane fuels and heavy oil additives if depolymerized to monomer unit. In this study, thermochemical degradation by pyrolysis-liquefaction of hemicellulose, the effects of reaction temperature, conversion yield, degradation properties and degradation products were investigated. Experiments were performed in a tube reactor by varying reaction temperatures from $200^{\circ}C$ to $400^{\circ}C$ at 40 min of reaction time. The liquid products from pyrolysis-liquefaction of hemicellulose contained various kinds of ketones. Ketones, as 2,3-dimethyl-2-cyclopenten-1-one, 2,3,4-trimethyl-2-cyclopentan-1-one, and 2-methyl-cyclopentanone, could be used as high-octane-value fuels and fuel additives. However, phenols are not valuable as fuels. Combustion heating value of liquid products obtained from thermochemical conversion processes of hemicellulose was in the range of 6,680~7,170 cal/g. After 40 min of reaction at $400^{\circ}C$ in pyrolysis-liquefaction of hemicellulose, the energy yield and mass yield were as high as 72.2% and 41.2 g oil/100 g raw material, respectively.
Because of global warming, the thawing of the Arctic ice cap is slowly accelerating. That is the hot issue nowadays. According to the each country's climate change policy, it is boom in the world to lessen the consuming of the fossil fuel those are oil, coal and natural gas. But on the contrary the thawing of the Arctic ice cap is the chance to make the natural gas producing unit cost lower. The purpose of this paper is to search the Arctic policy of each country under the contradictory relationship between promoting the climate change policy and exploiting the natural gas on the Arctic. Specially, there are huge natural gas reserves in Russia on the Arctic region, Russia's exploiting the natural gas on the Arctic will affect on the natural gas supply-demand balance of world natural gas market strongly in the future. Therefore it needs to prepare the future energy alternative policy for Korea's energy security. Russia has Yamal Peninsular where is abundant on natural gas reserver, and she can supply natural gas by LNG ship all over the world via the Arctic route. This means that the structure of world natural gas market be changed gradually. It will be possible in 2030~2040. And such a change is very important because new natural gas trading type can do it through not only overcoming the geological restriction but also shifting the main trading type from PNG(Pipeline Natural Gas) to LNG(Liquified Natural Gas). Therefore it is necessary that we should let this be a good lesson to ourselves through the government action of other countries (China, Japan) those also have no sovereignty over the Arctic as Korea.
