When nonuniform thermal boundary conditions are imposed on the surface of a circular cylinder in crossflow, the heat transfer characteristics can be quite different compared to what is found for isothermal or constant heat flux boundary conditions. In the present analysis, two kinds of nonuniform boundary conditions along the circumference of the cylinder are considered in a uniform stream of air: step changes and linear profiles. Step changes in temperature can arise on the surface of an external, cylindrical, solar central receiver. As the working fluid(water) flows through the vertical tubes that ring the circumference of Solar One(a solar central receiver in Barstow, California), the solar flux on the receiver heats the water from a liquid to a superheated state. In this process, portions of the receiver panels, and thus portions of the circumference of the cylinder, function as a preheater, boiler, or superheater. Hence the surface temperature can vary significantly around the cylinder. Common engineering practice has been to use an average wall temperature with an isothermal cylinder heat transfer coefficient when estimating the convective loss in these kinds of situations.

The optimization of submerged culture conditions for mycelial growth and exopolysaccharide (EPS) production in an edible mushroom Tremella fuciformis were studied in shake flasks and bioreactors. The temperature of $28^{\circ}C$ and pH 8 in the beginning of fermentation in agitated flasks was the most efficient condition to obtain maximum mycelial biomass and EPS. The optimal medium constituents were as follows (g l-1): glucose 20, tryptone 2, $KH_2PO_4$ 0.46, $K_2HPO_4$ 1 and $MgSO_4H_2O$ 0.5. The fungus was cultivated under various agitation and aeration conditions in a 5L stirred-tank bioreactor. The maximum cell mass and EPS production were obtained at a relatively high agitation speed of 200 rpm and at an aeration rate of 2 vvm. The flow behavior of the fermentation broth was Newtonian and the maximum apparent viscosity (35 cP) was observed at a highly aerated condition (2 vvm). The EPS productivity in an airlift reactor was higher than that in the stirred-tank reactor. The EPS was protein-bound polysaccharides consisted of mainly mannose, xylose, and fructose. The molecular weights of EPS were determined to be $1.3{\sim}1.5{\times}10^6$.
For effective power generation with fuel cells in low-oxygen environments such as submarines and unmanned underwater vehicles, a hydrogen source which has a high hydrogen storage density is required. Diesel fuel is easy to storage and supply due to its liquid phase and it has a high density per unit volume and unit mass of hydrogen that required for driving the fuel cells. In this paper, diesel fuel was selected as a hydrogen source for driving the fuel cell in oxygen lean environments. In addition, the aqueous hydrogen peroxide solution was suggested as an alternative oxidant for hydrogen production through the diesel reforming reaction because of its high oxygen density and liquid phase which makes it easy to storage. In order to determine the characteristics of hydrogen peroxide as an oxidant of diesel reforming, comparative experiments were conducted and it was found that hydrogen peroxide solution has the same characteristics when reformed with oxidants of both steam and oxygen. Moreover, the commercial diesel reforming performances were analyzed according to the reaction temperature and concentration of aqueous hydrogen peroxide solution. Then, through the 49 hours accelerated degradation tests, the possibility of hydrogen production via diesel and aqueous hydrogen peroxide solution was confirmed.
This study was conducted to investigate optimal conditions for formation of synnemata from Beauveria bassiana. The strain of B. bassiana was isolated from a host of Oncotympana fuscata in Halla mountain of Jeju island. The yield of synnemata was the highest at application of brown rice (90%) and silkworm pupae (10%) media. On the other hand, the other media did not result in formation of synnemata. The highest formation of synnemata was achieved at conditions of moderate air inflow and $20^{\circ}C$. The optimal moisture and light intensity for formation of synnemata were 60% and 300 lux, respectively. In addition, inoculation of the liquid spawn resulted in higher yield than that of asexual spore.

Exertion has been made to develop high-temperature (about $250{\sim}650^{\circ}C$) immersion ultrasonic sensor for the visualization of objects, temperature measurement, dimensional check, or nondestructive testing of welds under liquid sodium. In this study, the feasibility of the ultrasonic sensor taking advantage of a strip waveguide was confirmed by water-experiment. The lowest order of antisymmetric Lamb wave was used in the frequency range with negligible dispersion. This plate wave was excited in the stainless steel strip waveguide of 1.0mm thickness and 13mm width by the comb-structure transducer of 2.3MHz frequency. Its attenuation coefficient was 1.2dB/m in air and 380dB/m in water. The signal to noise ratio of 25dB was obtained from a planar reflector 270mm away from the beam aperture of $13mm{\times}39mm$ size.

A diesel engine works in high compression ratio due to injection of diesel fuel after compression of air. Therefore the engine has a high thermal efficiency, while nitrogen oxide is produced a lot in high flame temperature regions. In order to solve the problem this study HHO gas is added into the intake air of the industrial diesel engine. The test conditions are loads of 0%, 50% and 100% and engine speeds of 700 to 1900 rpm. The results show the maximum torque and pressure is increased, fuel consumption, smoke and CO emissions are decreased and NOx emission is remained at same level.

In this work, we developed and evaluated the Liquid Particle Generator for generating fine particles in the air. The Liquid Particle Generator, which was based on the spray-evaporation method, had two kinds of orifices: 0.3 mm and 0.5 mm. The Liquid Particle Generator was operated at different pressure between 1 bar and 4 bars to find relationship between input pressure and droplet output rate. In addition, the size distribution of the droplets generated by the Liquid Particle Generator with different orifices was measured by the SMPS system and the optical particle counter. As a result, it was shown that the Liquid Particle Generator with 0.3 mm orifice generated droplets of around 0.3 ${\mu}m$ and atomized particles very stably. The Liquid Particle Generator having 0.5 mm orifice generated bigger droplets, compared with the Liquid Particle Generator with 0.3 mm orifice. Additionally, in these Liquid Particle Generators (0.3 mm and 0.5 mm orifice), little coagulation of particles did occur because of fine droplets atomized by the jet. Therefore, the Liquid Particle Generator could be used as an aerosol generator for atomizing fine particles.

Congenital or traumatic loss on the oral and maxillary area or the loss of jaws due to the surgical excision of a tumor causes functional problems, such as masticatory and swallowing disorders, phonetic problems and psychological disorders in patients. In most cases, a prosthetic restoration is needed to resolve these problems and restore the damaged tissue and function. When loss occurs on the maxilla, foods and liquids leak into the nasal cavity, and a nasal sound can be heard due to air leakage into the removed area. In these cases, the palatal obturator can be used to improve the esthetic and functional aspects because it restores the removed area of the maxilla and closes the opened route between the oral cavity and maxillary sinus or nasal cavity. In this case report, a palatal obturator was applied to patients who had a hemimaxillectomy due to the occurrence of squamous cell carcinoma on the right maxillary area. Therefore, fundamental functions, such as phonetic and swallowing functions were restored, and the esthetic aspects of the facial profile were improved.

The researches of a two-phase atomizers have been carried out in the field of automotive and aerospace industries in order to improve the atomization performance of the liquid droplets ejecting from these nozzles. The smaller droplets have the advantages of the reduction of environmental pollution matter and effective use of energy through the improvement of heat and mass transfer efficiency. Thus, to propose the basic information of two-phase flow, an internal mixing atomizer was designed, its shape factor was 0.6 and the liquid feeding hole was positioned at the center of the mixing tube which was used to mix the air and liquid. The experimental work was performed in the field after the nozzle exit orifice. The measurement of the liquid droplets was made by PDPA system. This system can measure the velocity and size of the droplets simultaneously. The number of the droplets used in this calculation was set to 10,000. The flow patterns were regulated by ALR (Air to Liquid mass Ratio). ALR was varied from 0.1024 to 0.3238 depending on the mass flow rate of the air. The analysis of sampling data was mainly focused on the spray characteristics such as flow characteristics distributions, half-width of spray, RMS, and turbulent kinetic energy with ALR.
