  • In this paper, the required amount of heat for an anti-icing system of a Flush Air Data Sensing(FADS) system is predicted. For an efficient prediction during the early stage of a design process, a handbook method is used. A program of which inputs are flight conditions is developed to predict the required amount of heat. A CFD analysis is conducted to compute the water catch efficiency which is one of the core parameters used in the handbook method. Kriging method, one of well-known regression mothods, is utilized to construct a surface contour database to evaluate impingements of droplets. To predict the trajectories of droplets, the database of a flow field around the surface is built using Kriging method as well.

  • In port fuel injection system of SI engines, injected fuel is impinged onto the surface of intake valves and port-wall, and then formed the wall flow under the cold start operation. Wall flows entrained into the cylinder result in the unsteady and nonuniform mixture formation. Therefore, the spray impingement to the wall is considered as having negative influences such as lowering combustion efficiency and causing unburned hydrocarbon emissions. This study investigates the spray characteristics of the wall impinging air-assist spray in suction air flow. A PDPA was used to analyze the flow characteristics under the different conditions such as impingement angle and supplied air. Experimental data concerning the impinging sprays has been obtained in the vicinity of the wall. Measured droplets divided into the pre-impinging droplets which denote as the positive normal velocities and post-impinging droplets that describe as the negative normal velocities for the suction flow. Their velocities, size distributions and SMD are comparatively analyzed before and after the impingement.

  • Most researches for impinging jet spray have been focused on under-standing the breakup mechanism of a liquid sheet formed by the collision of jets and modeling the spray breakup using experimental data. For this reason, there have been few studies on the characteristics of the spatial spray distribution which affects significantly the combustion efficiency. Hence, we measured the radial distribution of fuel massflux using a like-doublet type injector. Instead of PDPA(Phase Doppler Particle Analyzer) which has been used only for the point measurement of the drop size of spray, PLIF(Planar Laser Induced Fluorescence) technique was developed lot the 2-D measurement of the massflux distribution of spray Indirect photography technique was also used to verify PLIF data.

  • Spray characteristics were investigated by impinging F-O-O-F type injector with varying the impingement angle through 15, 20 and 30 degree and the mixture ratio(O/F ratio) from 1.5 to 3.0. Experimental results show that the correlation between dispersion and impingement angle is not influenced of the mixture ratio variation, but which has influence on number density, and there is a linear correlation between dispersion and impingement angle. Velocity distribution, standard deviation and SMD of droplets are decreased as the impingement angle increases. Also, it was confirmed that the distribution of droplet size are in accordance with Rosin-Rammler and Upper-limit distribution.

  • Leidenfrost drops with ellipsoidal shaping can control the bouncing height by adjusting the aspect ratio(AR) of the shape at the moment of impact. In this work, we focus on the effect of the AR and the impact Weber number(We) on the non-axisymmetrical spreading dynamics of the drop, which plays an important role in the control of bouncing. To understand the impact dynamics, the numerical simulation is conducted for the ellipsoidal drop impact upon the perfect non-wetting solid surface by using volume of fluid method, which shows the characteristics of the spreading behavior in each principal axis. As the AR increases, the drop has a high degree of the alignment into one principal axis, which leads to the consequent suppression of bouncing height with shape oscillation. As the We increases, the maximum spreading diameters in the principal axes both increase whereas the contact time on the solid surface rarely depends on the impact velocity at the same AR. The comprehensive understanding of the ellipsoidal drop impact upon non-wetting surface will provide the way to control of drop deposition in applications, such as surface cleaning and spray cooling.

  • This study experimentally investigated the effects of droplet temperature on the heat transfer characteristics during collision of a single droplet on a heated wall above the Leidenfrost temperature. Experiments were performed by varying temperature from 40 to $100^{\circ}C$ while the collision velocity and wall temperature were maintained constant at 0.7 m/s at $500^{\circ}C$, respectively. Evolution of temperature distribution at the droplet-wall interface as well as collision dynamics of the droplet were simultaneously recorded using synchronized high-speed video and infrared cameras. The local heat flux distribution at the collision surface was deduced using the measured temperature distribution data. Various physical parameters, including residence time, local heat flux distribution, heat transfer rate, heat transfer effectiveness and vapor film thickness, were measured from the visualization data. The results showed that increase in droplet temperature reduces the residence time and increases the vapor film thickness. This ultimately results in reduction in the total heat transfer by conduction through the vapor film during droplet-wall collision.

  • Recently, researches for droplet impact phenomena have been faced a new phase in the direction of studying the effect of complex external conditions (e.g. wettability, temperature, morphology, electric field, etc.) for depth understanding and precise controlling in various applications. Hence, here we investigated the electrified droplet impact phenomena, because there were few quantitative researches for electrified droplet impact when we considering many real applications such as electrospray, electrohydrodynamic (EHD) jet printing. To observe interaction effect of surface charge between substrate and droplet simultaneously, micro-droplets with various Reynolds number (Re) and Weber number (We) were dripped on super-hydrophobic surface with existence and nonexistence of electrical surface charge. It shows three kinds of impact behaviors, fully bouncing, partial bouncing, and splashing with different We. Also, charged droplet bounced higher on electrically charged surface than on non-charged surface. Additionally, transition regions of three impact behaviors were classified quantitatively with water hammer pressure value, which means instant pressure inside droplet at the impact moment.
