  • The domestic research of the steel plate concrete structures have been focused on the nuclear structures requiring much strong resistance. There are many advantages in the steel plate-concrete structures such as the possibility of prefabricated production and modular construction. This research tried to establish some basic design information of SC structures toward mid to low-rise general buildings with low strength. To reduce the strength mentioned, the some of the cement in weight was replaced by the soils which are traditional and environmental oriented material where the new system can be used to general buildings. This paper studied on the compressive characteristics, effective length factors, buckling loading, steel plate buckling, and stud strength using the compression member subjected to the concentrated compression loadings.

  • Recently, ground has been often exposed to high temperature environments such as chemical ground improvement, thermal energy storage system, and underground nuclear waste disposal system. Since the behavior of clay is sensitive to temperature change, the studies on the engineering properties of clay subjected to high temperature history may be important. This paper presents the mechanical behavior of clay with high temperature condition. $\bar{CU}$ tests using a high temperature and pressure triaxial compression test apparatus were carried out in order to investigate characteristics of deformation, shear strength, compression and consolidation of clay. During tests, the temperature was varied from $20^{\circ}C,\;50^{\circ}C,\;75^{\circ}C,\;80^{\circ}C\;to\;100^{\circ}C$.

  • Exsolution intergrowth of ilmenite and hematite was studied by the Rietveld refinement method. According to the analysis on these two structural analog minerals, it was found that octahedron (M2) of Ti in ilmenite is in the least deformation, then that (M1) of Fe in ilmenite is deformed next, and octaheron deformation of Fe in hematite is between M1 and M2. High pressure compression experiment was performed up to 5.8 GPa, where two minerals' XRD peaks merged completely. Ilmenite shows normal compression behavior, whereas hematite shrinks in very small amount. This kind of abnormal behavior might be due to the differential response to the applied pressure corresponding to the different compressibilities of the minerals each other.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate experimentally the effects of aspect ratio of polyethylene fiber on the compressive strength and tensile behavior of alkali-activated cementless composite. Two mixtures were determined according to aspect ratio values of polyethylene fibers, and the compressive strength and tension tests were performed. Test results showed that the effect of aspect ratio of fiber on the compressive strength was negligible and the tensile strength, ductility, and number of cracks of the mixture including the fiber with high aspect ratio were higher than those of the mixture including the fiber with low aspect ratio. On the other hand, the crack spacing and crack width were low in the mixture including the fiber with high aspect ratio.

  • The flexural behavior of the UHPFRC rectangular beam which has 100 MPa, 140 MPa compressive strength were compared with that of the typical RPC rectangular beam which has same geometrical shape, prestressd force and 160 MPa compressive strength. UHPFRC beam was not reinforced at all and the variable of test is fraction of steel fiber, compressive strength of concrete, method of prestressing and ratio of prestressing bar. The behavior of UHPFRC beam was analysed by relationship of moment - curvature and load - deflection. Simple modeling of stress-strain of UHPFRC was proposed. Based on the proposed constituted, the flexural moment-curvature relationship was calculated and compared with experimental data on prestressed UHPFRC beams. Good agreement between calculated strengths and experimental data is obtained.

  • The stage 1 compaction behavior of tool steel powder under die pressing was studied. The friction effects between the powder and the die wall under different die pressing modes were also investigated. The elastoplastic constitutive equations based on the yield functions by Fleck et al. and by Shima and Oyane were implemented into a finite element program to simulate die compaction processes. Finite element calculations were compared with experimental data for densification and density distribution of tool steel powder under single and double action die pressing. Finite element calculations using the yield function by Fleck et al. agreed better with experimental data than by Shima and Oyane.

  • Cyclic shear test system, which is capable of measuring flow rate inside rock joint, was established to investigate the hydraulic behavior of rough rock joints under various loading conditions. Laboratory hydraulic tests during compression and shear were conducted for artificial rough rock joints. Prior to tests, aperture characteristics of specimens were examined by measuring surface topography. Permeability changes under compression were well approximated with several hydraulic model. Hydraulic behavior conformed to dilation characteristics in the first stage, and permeability increased with increase of dilation. As the shear displacement progressed, flow rate became somewhat constant due to gouge production and offset of apertures. Hydraulic behavior under cyclic shear loading was also influenced by the degradation of asperities and gouge production. In addition. the relation between hydraulic aperture and mechanical aperture under compression and shear loading was investigated and compared.
