  • A method for generating the compressor map from some performance measuring data using the hybrid intelligent technique was newly proposed. In order to improve accuracy of the traditional scaling method, a method to generate the compressor map using the GAs(Genetic Algorithms) was previously proposed, but the method has a drawback that it can not find correctly surge and choke points of the compressor map. However, the proposed hybrid intelligent method can determine obviously those points as well as improve the accuracy of the compressor map through complementarily using the GAs and the scaling method.

  • In the present study, in order to improve precision of the component characteristic maps generated by the scaling method, a map generation method which can produce a compressor map from some experimental performance data using GAs(Genetic Algorithms) was proposed. However, in case of the proposed map generation method only using GAs, because it has a drawback for estimating correctly the surge points and the choke points of the compressor map, a modified GAs method was additionally proposed through complementally use of the scaling method to determine obviously those points of the compressor map.

  • In this study, a component map generation method using experimental data and the genetic algorithms are newly proposed. In order to generate the performance map for components of this engine, after obtaining engine performance data through many experimental tests, and then the third order equations which have relationships the mass flow function the pressure ratio and the isentropic efficiency as to the engine rotational speed were derived by using the genetic algorithms. A steady-state performance analysis was performed with the generated maps of the compressor by the commercial gas turbine performance analysis program GASTURB. In comparison, it was found that the component maps can be generated from the experimental test data by using the genetic algorithms, and it was confirmed that the analysis results using the generated maps were very similar to those using the scaled maps from the GASTURB.

  • In the present study, the variation of input power and efficiency improvement of a scroll compressor applying PWM method are experimentally investigated. The cooling capacity, input power and COP are measured under the cooling operation. The input power due to the change of the condenser and the coil addition in a main current part is measured to enhance the compressor efficiency. Measured results show that the input power and COP increase with increasing the tooling capacity. And the minimum input power of the compressor is observed. By the adoption of the double system, the consumption of compressor input power is reduced, compared with the existing system.

  • It is essential to understand the characteristics of gas turbine components in order to carry out an off-design analysis of a gas turbine engine. In this study, a micro gas turbine engine test system was constructed to understand the performance characteristics of gas turbines. The temperature and pressure in the flow path of the micro gas turbine was collected by measuring the engine spool speed, and a compressor map was constructed by using the experimental data. The exhaust gas was collected at the turbine outlet and the combustion efficiency was calculated. An off-design performance analysis at ground static was performed using GasTurb software by applying the compressor map and combustion efficiency obtained from the experimental data. Futhermore, we compared and evaluated the analysis results with engine operating data.

  • A computer simulation model of a hermetic reciprocating type of refrigeration compressor has been developed. The compressor simulation model constitutes 6 control volumes, to each of which conservation laws of mass and energy are applied to yield full description of the refrigerant state along its passage. Instead of ideal gas assumption. real gas equation is employed. Some of valve-related input data required for the simulation are acquired from test bench experiments. The refrigerant states such as pressure and temperature, etc., mass flow rates, and valve motions can be predicted by the simulation. The calculated P-V diagram shows a good agreement with experimental result.

  • MVR evaporation is a method of pressurizing the evaporating steam to raise its temperature with an electric compressor instead of burning fuel and reusing the heat source through the embraced heat exchanger to minimize energy use. MVR desalination system with wind power uses varying wind power instead of stable electricity and can flexibly control the volume of fresh water production. The present study introduces the design, construction and operation of a MVR desalination system of 30ton/day capacity. Experimental results, MVR compression ratio is higher than 1.5, temperature difference of the main heat exchanger is $5{\sim}7^{\circ}C$. This value shows the same performance as the designed value.

  • In the present study, the cooling characteristics of the multi-air conditioner (A/C) using an inverter scroll compressor are experimentally investigated for the number of the indoor units and the operating conditions (2$0^{\circ}C$, 24$^{\circ}C$, 26$^{\circ}C$) under the cooling standard conditions by KS C 9306. In the case of the simultaneous operation for 3 indoor units, the cooling capacity, the mass flow rate and the input power have a decreasing trend and COP has an increasing trend, with decreasing the difference in the operating temperature of the indoor unit and the room temperature. In the case of the simultaneous operation for 2 indoor units, the COP of the indoor unit with large cooling capacity is high when the operating temperature is high, but the COP of the indoor unit with low cooling capacity is high when the operating temperature is low. In the case of the single operation for one unit, when the large cooling capacity of the indoor unit is less than 50% the compressor operates at the minimum operation frequency region and the COP decreases.
